Everything overall appears to be going well with Iraq thus far. I hate that men from both from US and Britain have lost their lives.

But, are we getting over confident?

I don't think so. From what I am seeing and hearing the US military is very professional and are doing things very methodically. They know what they may be facing and are planning for it. However the individual soldiers are confident and may even be a little cocky. But I think that is a good thing. Soldiers should have confidence.

I totally agree that the military should have confidence. Mayb e I am watching too much news because they seem to make things sound way too easy.

I don't think so. The possible use of weapons of mass destruction upon the troops would deter overconfidence. I think that they are confident in their abilities but it's tempered with caution.

How could we possibly be overconfident?

We have a program of "shock and awe".

i worry about this too. one of my friends was claiming it would all be over by sunday. i somehow doubt that, though i wish it were true.

I agree. I think they are proceeding rapidly, but with caution. They are not underestimating anything or taking anything for chance. In my heart of hearts, I also firmly believe the vast majority of Iraqi people really don't want to fight. Those people have been starved and who knows what else has been done to them and I really don't believe that they even have "decent" weapons to fight with. Would you want to take on hundreds of tanks, soldiers that just look menacing in their garb when basically all you have is a pop gun? Not me....I'd be waving anything white that I could get my hands on.

Btw, I'm not making light of this by any means. I am one of the people that really didn't want to see the war start, but now that it has, my feeling is we're there, get it done and move on. I must say it brought a tear to my eye to see the some of the Iraqi people rejoicing. I can't even imagine what they are feeling.

Now if Turkey will just leave the Kurds alone, but that's probably discussion for another thread.

:)

I might be over confident in our troops- but I think our military leaders are being cautious and calculating in their movements... I have seen nothing to the contrary.
