I'm sure I'm WAY out of date here, but are those treehouse resorts still around? Some friends of our stayed in them many years ago and I was viewing an old Disney Vacation Planning Tape from probably 1998 that showed them. They look nice. If they are gone, what happened to them?

No, they are no longer around. They were part of the accommodations at the Disney Institute, which was mowed down to make room for WDW's newest home away from home resort, Saratoga Springs Resort. SSR opens in May, I believe. I know someone will correct me if my facts are wrong!

Physically, the Treehouses are still there. They were a part of the Disney Institute resort before that shut down a year or two ago. Disney has torn down the townhouses and the club lake villas to build a new DVC resort, Saratoga Springs. The fairway villas and the treehouse villas are still standing, but Disney isn't renting them anymore. There is still a question what they will do with them. The Treehouses are standing on ground which is now protected, so if they are torn down, nothing will be able to be built there to replace them from what I have heard.

I stayed in the Treehouses and the townhouses in the 80s when I would go with my family . They were really kind of neat. Stopped staying there when we joined the DVC in 1992.

You know, a friend of mine was asking me last week about those tree houses. She said she remembered seeing them years ago when taking a boat from DDT to ?. I told her I didn't know what she was talking about. I have never been over to the Disney Institute. Now I can go tell her what I learned. I love the Dis! I learn so much here!

We saw the treehouses last month on the boat to DTD from POR. The boat captain said they are being remodeled but I saw no evidence of any work at that time.

we saw them on our way back to POFQ from the downtown disney area and were also told by our boat captain that the treehouses were in the process of being remodeled. this was during easter week 2003...I could be wrong here, but, I'm almost positive he said something about them in conjuction with SOG(the military resort). we could definately see construction workers/work going on when we passed them....I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they're doing there...
