Are the sofa bed and ceiling bunk long enough?

My 14 year old son is just about 6 ft tall and his feet enter a room 5 minutes before the rest of him does. I would like to know if the sofa bed and/or ceiling bunk are long enough for him to be comfortable in without his feet hanging over the end? I'm not worried about the weight limit, as he is a buck twenty five soaking wet.

Anybody have any experience with this?

I'm gonna say no to the ceiling bunk!!

DS is a similar height and *hated* the ceiling bunk. Not only was it on the slightly short side, but uncomfortable & flimsy! He could not do it without discomfort & it was a thin, uncomfortable mattress.

But..... the sofa bed was not bad at all!! I think the ceiling bed was actually just long enough, but more suited for a small child, for sure.

Agree with previous post based on son same age /height experience - sofa bed should be good, pull down ceiling bed worked but sofa is better.

Thank you for your reply. I had my suspicions that the ceiling bunk may not cut it, but glad to know that the sofa bed should be fine.

Thanks again.

I have a 6 ft son and a 5'10" son. The shorter one took the top bunk and was ok. The taller one took the bottom bunk and was ok. We had the stateroom a week, and I never heard either of them complain about their beds.

I think the top bunk is out for someone over 6 feet. The bottom might work but will be tight.

What size is the sofa bed? Twin, Full? Can you use the sofa bed and the bunk beds at the same time? I've never been on a cruise so trying to figure out how the kids are going to sleep. Neither one wants to sleep on top bunk!

They are twin size. And the sofa bed is the bottom of the "bunk" beds. The top bunk pulls down from the ceiling, and the sofa seat turns over to make the bottom bed.

My daughter loves the top bunk so much that we had our stateroom host put it down for her each night even though she could have slept on the sofa bed.

Thank you. My son sleep walks so he's always been scared to sleep on the top bunk because he's afraid he will forget he's on top and fall. And my daugher just doesn't care for the top, we can't even get her to sit on her brothers top bunk! So not sure what we are going to do now?

We will have 4 adults in the room, are we able to get a rollaway or can the mattress b moved to the floor to avoid using the upper bunk?
thanks

Ouch...that's gonna be tough with 4 adults! :sad2:

On the new ships the queen doesn't separate, so hopefully 2 can sleep together first of all, but no...no rollaways either. I also felt the ladder up to the thin top bunk is so flimsy for an adult, or even DS who is tall, I wouldn't want to use it, personally. I'm not sure if you could put the drop-down bed mattress on the floor or not. I don't think it was attached, but I'm not sure.

Hopefully someone knows about the top mattress?

We had four adults in our room once for an 11 night cruise and I was the one on the top bunk. I am 6' tall and it did not bother me at all. But I can sleep anywhere. I can't remember if I could sit up in bed or not. While the ladder isn't the strongest, I never felt it was going to break or anything. I did normally just climb up from stepping on the lower bunk. My 6'3" friend slept on the lower bunk and I don't remember any complaints but we were on a disney cruise! Who cares where we were sleeping! We were so tired by the time we got back, we just crashed.

That is good to know. Makes me feel much better. Thanks for the post. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the quick responses. Just like WVURunner said, we'll b on a Disney cruise. We'll make it work somehow, wish we could have reserved a handicapped room for son but they were booked so we have a wheelchair to deal with too. Nothing is going to ruin our first cruise:cool1:

In our Disney 4A Stateroom we had the ceiling Bunk, sofa Bed and the Murphy Bed which came from the wall, and the main Double Bed.

So it could sleep 5. I hope this helps, and my son is a tall 15yrs and he slept on the Sofa Bed with no complaints.:)

Is DS somewhat mobile? An typical adult wheelchair will not fit thru cabin door. The doorway are small, so he'll need to get out of the chair and walk thru the door.

Ditto - my 5'10" daughter slept on the sofa bed just fine - I think that and the murphy bed are the same size.

Yes, he is able to transfer. Long story short, We wanted to take him to WDW this summer, cardiologist said he couldn't fly so we booked a cruise out of Los Angeles about 2 hrs away by car. Handicapped rooms were booked. We will make this work and we are gonna have a great time! We've had premium passes since '96 so he was practically raised by a mouse :rotfl: We r so excited for our first cruise!
We r sad to see that cruises r leaving Pac coast : (

Wow... in a regular stateroom that is going to be really tight w/the wheelchair.

My husband is 5'11 and his feet stuck out. He definitely could not sit up in bed. We pulled down the bunk even though we didn't need it in order to use the sofa for extra "stuff" space (bags, clothes, etc).

My 5'9" DD15 sleeps in awful positions back home. On the Dream cruise, the first night her pillow ended up on the floor multiple times because her head was way too high at the top, with not enough room for her to position it. The second night most the bed linen ended up off the bed and her toes were hanging over the edge. So she gave up and moved down to sleep with me on the queen size bed.
