Are bedspreads washed regularly?

i've always wondered this. are the bedspreads cleaned for each new guest, or are just the sheets? anyone know?

pretty sure just the sheets and the bedspreads only upon extreme necessity- reason why u really shouldn't touch teh blankets....
if u think about it makes sense since the bedspreads woudl wear out quickly being washed every week

I am not certain of the protocol at Disney but most hotels do not wash the comforters btwn each guest but more like once or twice a month. I would suggest not to have the comforter/bedspread against your face or body while sleeping ( we remove then before we go to sleep). My cousin used to work in housekeeping (at a different hotel chain) and suggests requesting additional sheets and laying them down over the bedspreads to protect against laying on something that was not washed. Hope this helps.
Enjoy your trip!

Can one request clean bed spreads?

My son is extremely allergic to dust mites. When we arrived we asked for new bedding and they happily oblidged. Now this was for health reason. I guess you can always request that one not be put on when they clean the room to begin with, and then you can always change your mind and ask for one.

We always spray them down w/ lysol and the lice spray. I've heard of people getting body lice from the bedspreads (not at Disney, though), but it's just a safety precaution I guess. We try not to use them b/c well.... ewww.

While I was at the Grand Floridian, we came out of our room to find all the bedding and closet hangers out in the hall from the other rooms, and new ones being put in.

Just back from CBR, saw the room next to ours with all of the linens, including the Nemo comforter bagged for cleaning. Don't know how often, but our comforters all seemed very clean.

My youngest son has asthma. Dust mites, roaches, smoke, pollen, havy perfumes all bother him. So does "excessive" activity.

Pat Benetar does. Other than that, I have heard of many celebrity requests/demands, but none for bedspreads.

They are not washed on a regular basis. They're generally only removed if they're seriously filthy or a guest complains.

A friend of mine works in the hotel industry -- she says that bedspreads are only washed when obviously soiled ie. something gets spilled on them. And this is why many of the chains in Canada are switching to duvet covers, which are washed before each new guest and whenever necessary in between.

Since my daughter has asthma, she recommended we ask the resort to wash all of the bedding. And they did -- pretty sure they used milder soap too. The Lysol spray trick? That would put her in the hospital for sure.

This might answer your question. This first photo was taken last November at the Port Orleans Riverside resort. I have never stayed here before..and will NEVER stay here again.
The room was obviously dirty and worn..soda stains on the walls..mold in the bathroom..dead squashed knats on the bathroom ceiling. All this after waiting until near 6:00 pm to get into the room. Yet the best of all....upon turning down the bedspread...GRAFFITI! Yep this spread was actually autographed by a previous occupant of the room. So NO..they don't clean them after every guest..and I think this one hadn't been cleaned EVER. :rolleyes1
So my advice to you is take the spread off the bed. We checked out of this room and out of this resort entirely the very next morning. They were going to place us in another room..but again we would have to wait until at least 5 pm. We left. The management of this resort is not shocked by the condition of the room..seemed to me they've heard it all before. When we told him we were leaving for the WL..he said.."oh good..you won't have any problems there". Oh..and I removed the spread from the WL bed also..after this..I wasn't taking any chances.
Take a look.............

The darker colors here...appear to be soda stains. ..we were checking for bed bugs..and decided to take a look at the mattres. Hard to tell from this photo..but the entire bottom of this mattress was stained in what appear to us to be old cola.

This is what we found at the top the bed..where it meets the wall under the head board..think they might want to run a vacuum there sometime? talk about dust mites.

makes ya just want to jump right in the shower doesn't it?

Why bother..you're gonna step on the "hair" on the bathroom floor..mind you this was supposed to be a newly cleaned room...makes ya want to gag!

We stayed at POR last year and our room was clean. I'm hoping we have a good experience at GF this year.

This is exactly why I always bring my lysol, clorox wipes, and antibac tub cleaner!

Few years ago we called WL to request a fresh bedspread for our room before we arrived. Did this because of the posts I was reading here on the DIS that left me completely grossed out. They were stunned at the request, and wondered why we were making it. We told them we'd read WDW and most hotels don't change the bedspreads in between guests. They were very adamant that they do wash them in between guests, at the least. Transferred us to housekeeping and they had the same reaction: "Of course we wash them in between guests!" They sounded honest to me, and I've seen their bedspreads in the laundry bags in the hallways often.

That said, I wouldn't want to put food or drinks down on the bedspreads. But I have no problem sitting on them, putting bags on them, etc. We do take Lysol and peroxide with us though to clean the toilet an extra time (Lysol), and clean all the doorknobs/door handles, light switches, and remote control (peroxide). Generally speaking though, I can't ever remember a Disney room we've stayed in being dirty. Some dust here or there or a squashed mosquito in a place no housekeeper would think to look maybe, but nothing bad. Some of the non-Disney owned hotels in Orlando though... yeesh. Those awful experiences in 1993 and 1996 (especially '96) are why we turned to Disney Resorts in the first place. Dirty bedding, dirty tables, doors that wouldn't shut, lights that didn't work (not because of the lightbulb, mind you), and a bad time getting anything addressed by the front desk. Not fun. I just wouldn't go to WDW anymore if I had to stay off-property.

That was nasty! I would have left too. There's no excuse for the room to be so dirty.

Those pictures are disgusting. Yuck.

I would have left too. I would have been really pissed at the manager expecting that my family staying at WDW, stay in that. That is really gross.

We've stayed at the Contemporary once and the Swan/Dolphin 3 times. All times the rooms have been spotless. Comforters and linen totally clean and fresh, bathroom sparkling and new. The way it should be.

No one was more shocked that I. While it's been a while since we've stayed in a moderate resort..and then our resort of choice was the Caribbean Beach..I was flawed by the outright disgusting condition of this room in POR the Magnolia Bend section of the resort. Having been a visitor to Disney since '91...we've seen many changes over the years..in regards to both customer service and mousekeeping. However..this was just off the charts gross. :scared:
We didn't feel comfortable staying in this resort no matter where they transferred us to. It was perfectly obvious they DO NOT change the bedspreads after each use..which I was aware of..even at the Deluxe resorts. We remove the spread. However..mousekeeping HAD to see the autograph on that bedspread each and everytime they made the bed...not removing and cleaning it or disposing of it all together is a poor reflection on both the houskeeping and management of that resort.
