APs and finger scanning

Here's an interesting question. I understand that WDW does finger scanning for guests with APs, and then requests photo id if the finger scans don't match. We are going in March, and plan to get APs for the family, including a 5 year old and a 3 year old. We are buying APs because we plan to go again in February next year.

It strikes me that the kids are at ages where they could grow a lot in 11 months. Are the scans based on technology similar to finger prints, in which case this wouldn't make a difference, or would a year of aggressive growing make a difference?

The only reason I ask is that we do not have photo id for our kids, and I would not want to get passports just for this purpose.

They do not finger scan kids or ask them for ID.

I confirm what dsnefreak said.;) For the few years we've had APs, we've never had the children's IDs checked. They don't do the finger scans for the reasons you cite...children grow too quickly.

My daughter is using the finger scan but she is 11 so maybe that when they start to do it.
Have fun.

It is a finger meaurement and it must have some flexibility as my kids have grown quite a bit since there original measurement in March of 2003 when we first purchased the AP's and our trip in Dec 2003 and we didn't have any problems...

We have had AP's for years and only in the last 2 have my kids reached the ages where there was the need to purchase adult AP's which require the finger scan. Kids AP's don't have this requirement..
