Jewellery Workshop

This is now closed and most of the supplies have been ordered. The first batch as already arrived as well. Most people paid me by the requested deadline and I would like to thank everybody who paid in time. I am still waiting for payment for 9 workshops, which is from 4 different families. Could I please ask you to pay this as a matter of urgency as I am out of pocket at the moment. As most of the supplies come from wholesalers, I had to place the complete order in one go and I did not want to risk holding off any longer as a lot of the supplies come from China and Hong Kong, which have somewhat unpredictable shipping times.

I will put together the groups a bit nearer the time.

We are celebrating our 14th anniversary today. I know that is nothing compared to a lot of people here, but in my generation, it is major achievement. Graham came to the town where I work once he finished to the day and we had a lovely meal at an Indian restaurant that I had wanted to try for ages.

Being finally PIF and having the excursions booked has given me a second wind as far as the cruise is concerned. I finished the Fish Extender gifts for the men yesterday and ordered the prints for the magnets. I am still missing supplies for the rest of the Fish Extender gifts, but I am hoping that the remaining materials for the kid's gifts arrived within the next couple of days.

Corinna

Happy anniversary :)

I can't finish FE gifts since I'm not doing all the rooms and I have no idea how many woman/men and kids gifts I'll need.

Very Happy Anniversary, Corinna and Graham! Fourteen years is wonderful! So glad you had a nice meal to celebrate.

And Corinna, I think my DH may be on the same Ensenada kayaking trip as your husband. Scott's very interested and will probably be on the morning tour if it's still available. He's not made his final decision but thinks it looks very good.

I am cross-posting this here from the main cruise forum as I know that there are people on here that did the West Coast Repo and first Alaskan cruise back to back last year.

I hope that somebody on here can help me. We are going on our next cruise shortly and are hoping to book some cruises for next year while we are on the ship. The cruises that we are looking at are the repositioning cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver and the first Alaskan cruise of the season. We have never done a back to back cruise on DCL before. I know that last year quite a lot of people did those two cruises back to back. How did this work in Vancouver? Did you have to get off the ship? Were you able to leave your baggage in your cabin or with guest services or did you have to take it with you to clear customs? Were you able to get straight back on the ship or did you have to wait to check in with people who were just joining the ship in Vancouver? Any help and pointers that you can offer are greatly appreciated.

Corinna

I did not due the B2B last year but I did the Alaska part and I stood in line with those who had sailed the first half. From what they were telling me then they all had to leave the ship when it docked, but did not have to take their luggage. They had to stand in line with the rest of us to re-board, after killing some time in Vancouver. I know DCL offered excursions for that time in Vancouver, but the people we were with had done their own thing, which they said wasn't much because there is not a lot by the pier.

I would think by now there might be a better system--this was the first sail in Vancouver - but I think you would have to get off for customs to inspect the ship because it had come from a foreign country still.

I am sure someone from here will have more details because I have seen a lot of Dis names I recognize.

We are also at the Candy Cane. Arriving Friday as well. My oldest son will be just a month and a half shy of 5 years. Maybe they will run into each other!
:woohoo:

That would be great. Since my son is an only child we don't have ready made friends and it takes him quite a while to warm up to the kids clubs. We are arriving rather late on Friday since both my husband and I have to work that day. We are on the last flight out. If the weather allows we will definitely be at the pool on Saturday since by son would have gills if he could. If you see a dark hair boy with either Spider man or the Avengers swimming suit on that would be us.

We land in LA about 1215pm west coast time. So we will be there most of the day settling in. My son is not a fan of the kids clubs. He has already said, Mom, I don't want to go to the kids clubs this time..We will see!.. Both my guys are also fish out of water, so I am sure that the pool will also be utilized on Saturday!.. I will have my Ipad and be checking on here, and can also send my email address. Maybe we can connect that way. I am not sure how many more are staying there with younger kids, but maybe a small kids meet could be in order? :woohoo:

My Dad and I will officially be joining all of you and are now PIF:) this was supposed to be a trip with my husband, but he can not get the time off of work! There has been a lot of debate but finally decided to with my Dad to celebrate his retirement. It will be a very different trip but still a lot of fun...I can not believe how soon the trip will be here!

We did the B2B last year and loved it! We had the same cabin so just left everything in there. They didnt have any excursions but there was all kinds of tour shuttles there so we took the one up to Grouse mountain and took the tram to the top which was a beautiful view . We hadnt planned for it to be snowing up there though and it was COLD but we had fun as Floridians playiing in the snow. We got back on board very easy.

Thats what I'm scared of...box getting lost or being too late....then what I'll do with FEs after the cruise ? :):):) Not sure what I'm gonna do......

I pack my most important things in my carry-on and figure if suitcases are lost we can buy replacements for those things.

Sew, what has everyone been up to today:rotfl:

I've been sewing. :lmao:

Good news and bad news.

The good news is that the sewing machine still works and I remember how to use it. :goodvibes

The bad new is the pattern I picked does not work or fit right. :scared1:

The good news is I made a test skirt out of some vintage material.

The better news is that I found a different pattern that will be perfect.

I think I worked out all the bugs for when it comes time to cut the cruise cloth. :woohoo:

Admitttedly I am a wee bit scared of so doing.

That will be next weekend....Time for :laundy:

DITTO !!
Except that the "perfect" pattern must be ordered on line and I have time now
So
I am making my own pattern

Can you say
"nervous"
About cutting THE FABRIC ?

Glad I used the white borders for pattern testing. This stuff is tricky to cut.

Best wishes to the seamstresses! And tailors!

I really do miss a good English afternoon tea. We used to love going to Heaven Farm near Uckfield in Surry.

Bob here. Valerie was feeling guilty about the cost of the shirts until she saw the tee from Disney costs even more than a tailored shirt.
BTW, she's mailing some of the fabric today for those who ordered yardage. Pretty good looking stuff, if you want a totally unbiased and detached opinion;) .
Received my material. Thank you so much Val. Appreciate all your hard work.

Well since people where sharing what they were doing Pre cruise I thought I would share as it was finalized about a hour ago. We will be spending the day before we sail at DIsneyland with a cruise kick off lunch at Club 33. So excited. It will be my third time there but there will also be 3 first timers as well. What a great way to kick off the trip.
Oh so envious ..... Enjoy!!!

I have finally got a few spare moments to catch up with things on here. I have had an interesting weekend. We had some freak weather across various parts of Europe which meant that a lot of the feeder flights were cancelled, people could not get to the airport in Rome and a bunch of flights from the UK were cancelled or redirected. It felt like I was working 24 hours a day. I have a day off today and I slept for 14 hours straight. Now I am ready to face the world again.
One thing that I did achieve is making a start on my Fish Extender gifts. I have all the supplies for the gift for the men and made about 40 of them. I am really pleased how they have worked. I am waiting for more supplies for making the gifts for the kids and the ladies. They should hopefully get here by the end of the month.
Corinna
Corinna, hope you are all safe and warm. We lived in East Sussex for about 10 years and have family living there now. We never saw snow when we lived there and now you are all having so much snow.

Thought I would share. I know someone had asked about this design. I caught Milliepie-she's been on every now and then in between school.
Hawaii_inaugural_sailing_mh.png

We're going to have some beautiful decorated doors!
Lovely, thank you.

Champagne Girls....I ordered our flowers for our hair. So that's done and I already have our leis. We're ready to go. Now we just have to wait until I can contact DCL and get a date and a room.
This will be my first Champagne Girls and I can't wait!!!!

Medical update. My cat scan was normal so the gland is not enlarged.Have not noticed any improvement yet in my eyes but was told it may take a couple of weeks.I sure hope so
Take care hope you feel better soon.

My first project with the Hawaii Cruise material. Everyone will ask where I got it!
Thanks, Val & Bob for all your hard work!

Great job. You've given me an idea :cool1:

As you can tell by the date I registered and the number of post that I am a long time lurker. I am sure I could win a reward for it, but this cruise has me rethinking my style. No more standing outside looking in. On this cruise will be me (Kristan), husband Dewayne, and son Kaleb who will be a month shy of five when we cruise. We are all looking forward to this vacation and can't wait for it to finally be here. I think I have all the planning done.
I have read all posts and after posting this I will go back and sign up for the FE. We are all excited to be doing this for the first time. I finally made up my mind today on what our gifts will be so I am headed off to Michael's later. Hoping they turn out as good as they look in my head.
I am training for the Disney Marathon (first time for that too) so I will be running everyday on deck 4 so if you see a women who looks like she is about to pass out that would be me so please say hi. I am looking forward to meeting everyone.
Kristan
Welcome. :welcome: This is also my first time participating and I'm trying not to lurk too :)

Sorry I haven't been active here in awhile but have been having extensive dental surgery and recovering!! I am way behind so if I have missed anything important that I needed to respond to, will you please PM me?
Hope to be active again soon!
NoelNewTeeth1.jpg
Hope the meds are working and you recover quickly.

Finally a day off....working nights and days is really messing up my schedule.
Bethany has had Bronchitis for a few days. She rarely gets sick and just because I have been fearing her missing any school of course the poor kid gets it. Kept her home and hopefully she'll get better quick, they are ok with the 2 weeks in April but dont want to push it.
Hoping to work on my FE gifts today and book our flights when hubby gets up.
Welcome to the newbies and glad to see more names being added to FE list.
Heather
Hope she gets better soon.

As if don't have enough to deal with about my eyes I ended up on the emergency ro on sat and had emergency surgery.ihad a hernia the size of an apple push through I might go home tomprrow
Take care of yourself.

**********
Hi everyone,
Wow, finally caught up on all the missed posts. We're back from our Aulani trip. It was so wonderful we didn't want to leave and ended up extending our stay a day, would have stayed longer if we could have but DH had to be back at work today.
For those who have not yet been. The resort is amazing. Wristbands are a must at all the pools and we also had to show either a wristband or room key to get access to the garden even for the Starlite Hui. I think with other resorts in the area Disney is having to monitor use and access to their programs and facilities. Very understandable. We had a lovely stay, our room had a ocean and pool view. The service was great and the cast members were friendly and helpful.
We arrived on Sunday the 5th to warm lovely weather which changed and deteriorated over the following 3 days. The weather predictions were completely wrong as we had been monitoring the weather there for a week before our arrival. But it cleared up on Thursday but did remain rather windy throughout our stay.
We had rented a car at the airport, driving wasn't a problem at all. We managed to take a drive to the North Shore, Turtle Bay and the Dole Plantation. We also drove into Honolulu and did Diamond Head.
Info on Diamond Head:
It cost $5 (cash only) for the car to enter and parking. It took us about an hour to do the hike up, spend some time at the top and hike back down, around 20 minutes up and 15 minutes down at quackish walking pace. There was a set of stairs to the tunnel then a steep set of stairs to a short tunnel with a spiral staircase and an exit to a view point. Next was a pathway to another staircase to the top most viewing area. We then tracked back to the level bellow and did another stairway down with wasn't as steep as the first one we did up. We could have taken the alternative one up too but opted on doing a little round trip at the top. The views were fantastic.
Here are a few Photosynth panoramic's that I captured.

We didn't do Pearl Harbor as we're leaving that as our shore excursion in Honolulu.
We spoke to DVC at Aulani and at the time they were not aware that DCL had an excursion to Aulani but were very excited to hear that and also that members were using points to visit the resort from the ship.
Everyone seems to know that the ship is going to be visiting and are looking forward to the ships arrival.
I did ask about information on transport options and was told that the two options. Firstly a taxi to and from the port at a cost of about $60 to $70 each way. However this can be a lot more expensive if you travel at peak hour as the taxi meters by time. Second option would be to get a taxi from the port to the airport and then rent a car, return it to the airport and take a taxi back to the port. The second was the option that was advised.
When we were driving back to the airport yesterday I did see a few limo's and it occurred to me that a limo or town car maybe an option. They usually have a set cost and will pick you up and drop you off at your preferred destinations. I have not looked into this ... just a thought.
Can't wait for the cruise to meet everyone in person and to return to Hawaii.

You have 6 of us under my name, don't you? Connie

Sure do :)

I travel with my Mom and we have a lot of fun. Glad you and Dad are onboard

I'm travelling with my Mum like I usually do, just this time, my partner is coming with us too :)

If you are interested in linking dining for the main/early seating, please send me a PM.

I need the primary name on the reservation and your reservation number.

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

20 chilly degrees here, and still no snow.

Still unable to get DH to think about anything but skiing. I guess we're going to "wing it" where excursions are concerned.

Happy day, all!

Corinna - I have done many back to back (even a B2B2B). The rules have changed over the last few years. But when I did the B2B2B into Vancouver (as a middle and end stop) here is how it went. We had to leave the ship for 3 hours. Since we were not changing cabins everything was left in the cabin. We were able to check in immediately, but had to be off the ship for those 3 hours - no forgiveness on that one. In Dover we walked off and right back on, in Calif I chose to stay in the terminal with friends, but was offered the VIP lounge area to reboard as a "pre" #1 boarding pass. In Barcelona I was allowed to stay on the ship, buy chose to do an excursion. It really seems to be up to the port and country involved.

The steward stays the same (I asked to have mine switched between the repo and Alaska - we had a lot of issues, unrelated to the B2B). Otherwise your steward will be aware you are a a B2B. You will have to meet in a specific area (to be announced depending on the number of B2B folks), where you may or may not be cleared by customs at that point. Since I was on the first into Vancouver, we were given our new room keys and told to enjoy the city.

I walked around - there is SO much to see in the area called GasTown which is where the ship docked. In a short walk one can see all of the Gas Town area, if willing to walk a bit further you can see the Sun Yat Sen gardens. If you want to see Stanley Park - you will need a cab or bus ride - that is a ways and really one should take a day to see it all.

If you want Rodeo Drive type shopping - walk the other direction from Gas Town, the shops rival those in LA. If you want to see the Suspension Bridge - expect to spend the whole day off the ship - that is about 45 minutes away.

I hope this helps - PM me if you have more questions

Cayla

ok - I missed something somewhere....I know that Heather was re-doing the FE list - does anyone have a cabin count? My gift is per cabin (or individuals if just traveling friends like myself and Michael). I just need a total count (I will be doing all the lists)

thank you!!

Cayla

I ordered it on the telephone with the same order for the shirt and hat. I wanted flowers but the ones that I picked out were for Easter and not our sailing. She tried to sell me Caribbean arrangements and I said NO I'm going to Hawaii and I don't want Caribbean. Then she said she has fresh flower leis...mine are purple orchids. So just call that number on the same page as all the other Hawaii gifts.

For those interested in the Leis that Ella ordered...I emailed DCL gifts using the link on the gift page - and finally got some information from them. Here it is:

"After further research I have found that we have the following items

At first they denied that the leis were available - which I chalked up to getting an uninformed CM...but they took the initiative to find out more and emailed me again with the above info - so good on them for following up.

PS - I asked for full size photos of the merchandise to see the items better and was told that they don't have any bigger pictures to share. So I guess I'll order and cross my fingers that I like them. I'm not sure what to think about this since in the shops we'd get our platinum 10% off and via them we don't and I bet they'll have shirts in the shops, but not sure if they'd be the same design or not.

I know you are not the only cabin with unrelated folks sharing - maybe there could be a note of some kind on the FE list to highlight these cabins so those of us who normally would give 1 gift per cabin would know that those cabins need 2?
I think this has already been done - but I agree completely!!!

We had so many hangers in the closet last cruise that I stuck the extras in a suitcase under the bed - they literally filled the bar from one end to the other.
you must have had the cabin right after Michael and I left the ship - we always leave about 30 to 40 hangers in the closet :rotfl::confused3:rotfl::confused3

Geeeee --- I guess you had the ones that belonged in my room....right? :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
nah - the ones from our room...Michael changes clothes two to three times EVERY DAY :scared1:

Hi Corinna ... Don't know if this has been answered yet or not, but I did the B2B Repo/Alaska last year. We had to disembark in Vancouver (at our leisure, but before 10) then reboard after 11 (we got priority reboarding, so were the first ones back on the ship). I'm guessing on the times, but they are very close if not correct. If you don't want to linger too long off the ship, there is a Tim Horton's just down the road (less than 5 minute walk) where you can get a great cup of coffee. It is a Canadian staple. We have at least 10 near me at home! Hope this helps.
