This is our 4th Disney Cruise, but our first on the Dream, and we had quite a few firsts on this cruise. I am going to write this trip report, because I am not yet ready to let go of such a terrific vacation. I have to admit, that I am more of a math brain, not a writing brain, so bear with me and I hope you enjoy the report.

Cast of Characters:

We enjoy traveling, and love to travel with my parents, so yet again, my parents were dragged on another vacation. We had two rooms, in our room it was DH, Myself, and DS 12; in the connecting room, it was my Mom, Dad and Sister. When we first booked this cruise we had booked Cat 5E’s rooms 5534 and 5536. Somewhere along the line, they changed the categories to 4E’s (I think), so we were upgraded? Or not really…however that works. Let me just say we loved rooms 5534 and 5536. They are all the way forward on the Starboard side. We had a great view leaving port, a great view of Castaway Cay, and a great view of the Carnival Magic when docked at Nassau. These rooms have the extended balconies, but the stateroom itself felt a little shorter than regular staterooms that we have had on the magic and wonder. What is nice about the location is that in order to get to them, you have to go all the way to the forward staircase before you can get to the hall to go to your stateroom on the starboard side. If you are midship you have to walk forward on the port side in order to get to the forward staircase and cross to the starboard side. Some may think this is a pain, but it sure kept a lot of foot traffic in front of our rooms down. The staterooms had connecting doors on the inside, but also the outer part of the balcony also opened up, giving us a huge balcony together. 5534 is on the edge of a group of staterooms, so the divider between the 5534 and 5532 on the balcony didn’t go all the way out to the edge because it is rounded. Luckily my parents had a very sweet neighbor, and the times that they ended up out on the edge of the balcony together was very enjoyable.

See what I mean about the rounded edges in 5534:

But, I have totally gotten ahead of myself. Our trip really started a year ago when I booked it, and my poor boss who had to put up with me every day for the year while I obsessed about it. Since we are silver castaway members, I promptly logged on at midnight at the 90 day mark to get a Cabana on the family beach. It was spring break (can you say busy cruise), I had my parents coming (not fond of crowds, but are still good sports), and I wanted so badly to surprise them when we got on the cruise with a cabana. We were doing a double dip, so my chances were good for a least one day right? WRONG! All Cabana’s were gone. I was glad I hadn’t told my parents about them and built up their hopes. Like the crazy obsessive person in my quest for a perfect vacation that I am, I continually checked the internet for a family cabana cancellation. But no luck. Then one afternoon about 4 ½ weeks after my booking window opened, while I was at work…hmmmm….I logged onto the Disney website. I was just starting to click on the port adventures button to check for a Cabana when my boss walked in the door behind me….Great!. At this point, do I shut the webpage down in a hurry and pretend to be the upstanding employee that I should be? Heck no, I need to try to get a Cabana, so I just tell her that I am doing personal stuff, cruise related, that probably will amount to nothing, but just then it appeared. Cabana #17 had opened up for our first day at Castaway Cay. My excitement got the better of me and as I am trying to catch my breath and quickly nab the cabana, with my boss just staring at me like I lost my mind, I quickly punch in my cabin and my parents cabin hit confirm and nooooooo it is already gone. I am now almost in tears, but when I hit refresh, the Cabana is still there. So, I try it again, only not putting our linked cabin on the reservation, cross my fingers, and Congratulations! I have Cabana #17, sorry mom and dad, I will deal with you not being able to be added later. Then greediness kicks in, maybe it is open for stop #2. And sure enough there it was. I was lucky enough to get a cabana for both days. As I am jumping around the office, feeling luckier than winning the lottery, my boss finally just had to walk away. Of course, surprising my parents was completely out of the picture, I had to call my mom immediately, (even though she wasn’t on the reservation, yet, but that is another story).

So, fast forward to departure day. Everything was booked, Hyatt at the airport confirmed, Disney transportation reserved, Cabana, Oh yeah! It was time to begin the trip. We were traveling from California to Florida. So everyone up at 4:00 am so that we can be at the airport by 5:00 am. The weather was a balmy 46 degrees and rain, I couldn’t wait to get out of town. The flights to Orlando were pretty uneventful, we were a bit late leaving our first flight, but we had 2 hours before our connecting flight, so it was not big deal for us, the lady in front of me with a 30 minute connection was another story. There is nothing like a little airline drama with an angry passenger to start off the trip. I was headed to 86 degrees and sunshine, so I didn’t care. We landed in Orlando about 6:30pm. We flew in on United, so we were already in Terminal B. We made our way down stairs, collected our luggage, came back up the escalator and followed the signs to the Hyatt. I didn’t realize we were at the hotel until we looked up and saw the hotel all around us.

They Hyatt out of nowhere:

It was so nice having the hotel right there in the airport. We made our way up the stairs and to the check in counter. I informed the customer service representative that the next morning we were going on a Disney Cruise and we were going to take the Disney Cruise Line transfers. She gave us a form to fill out to give to the Disney cruise reps when we checked in, and told us to leave our luggage in the room with our Disney cruise line luggage tags on them, and somebody would be by around 8:30 to pick them up. We headed to the elevators to go up to our rooms. We hopped in one, while my parents and sister hopped in another. Luckily a guy also hopped in our elevator because I was standing there pushing the button to take us to our floor, but nothing was happening. Finally the guy asks us if we put our hotel key in the slot….ummm no, am I supposed to? He shows us how to put your hotel key in the elevator and then push your floor button, and like magic we were off to our rooms. Except, Mom and Dad aren’t there when we get to our floor. I know they must be having the same room card then push the button problem we experienced earlier. So I head back down to the lobby where I find them still in the same place. I amaze them with my new found elevator operating knowledge (thank you random mystery guy who got in our elevator) and soon enough we are all in our hotel rooms. The Hyatt’s rooms were really nice. The room we had even had a balcony. The beds were very soft, and we enjoyed the ceiling fan. After all we left winter at home and flew into summer, so we were already roasting.

After settling a bit, we headed down to get some dinner at Chilies. After Chilies we did a little airport shopping. I love you can get all the souvenirs you want from the Orlando attractions, and you don’t even have to leave the airport. After wandering the airport, we headed back to our rooms for some down time before we were off to bed, to dream about the Dream that we were about to board.

Boarding the Ship up next.....

Great start! I'm looking forward to reading more about your awesome trip. :goodvibes

Thanks guys! The next installment is almost done. I will finish it up tonight and get it posted :thumbsup2

Joining in to relive this cruise with you.

Congrats on the Cabana! I went straight to guest services when we boarded (#3) to be wait listed but nobody cancelled.

April 10 – Watch out Dream, here we come!!!
We wake up the next morning at around 7:00 am, maybe earlier. Sleep in? We are on vacation, why on earth would we want to sleep? I really was in no hurry to rush on the ship, we had everything pre booked, I just needed to add my parents room onto the Cabana, but I had called Disney and they said just to do it at Port Adventures once we got on board, it would be no problem to add. Apparently I couldn’t originally book them in the cabana because there is a glitch in the system. So anyway, we were up early, we went ahead and got dressed, packed our day bags, and had our bags at the door with the tags on. At about 8:10 we were ready to head out the door, when I got a sudden case of am I sure I am doing this right? I had a fear that the only person I told was the front desk lady, and that my bags would be forgotten. I had visions of my dreamy vacation without clothes….not a very dreamy vision. We waited around for a bit, and then I decided to head down to the lobby to make sure I had this correct. Disney had a representative down stairs who assured me that the bags would go around 8:30, He went ahead and got my name and room number and said we just needed to turn in the form the Hyatt gave us when we checked in for the cruise. Feeling satisfied, I headed back up to the room to get the rest of our group to go get breakfast. Just as I reached our floor, right in front of me, was the guy who was collecting the luggage. So, really, all you need to do is notify the front desk on check in, and leave the bags in the room with the luggage tags, it is so easy it is scary. We headed down to the airport and grabbed a bite to eat at McDonald’s before heading down to the Disney Check in counter. It was probably 8:45 to 9:00am before we headed down to the Cruise Line Counter. When we arrived there was barely a line, I think we just had to wait a second before a representative opened up. We handed him our Hyatt form, our signed check in forms we had filled out on line, our booklet with our transfers and our onboard airline check in form filled out. He took our picture as one large group, handed us our key to the world cards, and stapled a character to our booklet before handing it back to me. Our character represented what bus we got on, and we were on bus #1. Really? And I wasn’t trying to get on board quickly, but I will take it. We sat in the waiting area for a bit, and before we knew it they had called our character. We all lined up and a lady walked by and handed us our boarding number and we received #.............2! Yippee!

Getting on the bus:

We were a bit excited!

Oh Yeah!!!

We climbed on the bus, and we were on our 45 minute drive to the port. We saw the boat arrive into view, parked at the port, and soon enough were headed thru screening and up the wonderful escalator into the terminal. I think it was around 10:30 or 11:00 when we arrived, I am not 100% sure on that, but the terminal was pretty empty. As soon as we got up stairs, there was Captain Mickey with hardly any line at all. This is our 4th cruise, and we have never gotten a picture with Mickey because the line has always been so long. I quickly turn to DS and tell him to go get a picture with Mickey. In 12 year old fashion, he rolls his eyes at me. I turn to my DH to see if I can get him to go, but he is not there. I look around, and he is already sprinting towards Mickey with cell phone in hand shouting at me to get his picture so he can post on Facebook. Cool! One of the boys is into it. I turn back to DS, but he can’t be outdone by his dad, so he reluctantly follows to have his picture taken too. DS is grinning the whole time, so I know he really doesn’t care about having his picture taken, he just likes to give me a hard time.

IMG_0310.jpg

After the picture we find a place to park for awhile till boarding begins. We do the usual, walking out on the viewing area to take a pic of the Dream, and before we know it they are boarding. I think it was 12:30 when they called the family of the cruise to board. Shortly thereafter #1 was called and then #2. Yep we were headed on the ship! With Key to the World cards in hand, we hand them to the representative. My son goes first; the rep swipes the card, and then stops. She looks at us and at him and says this is not him, the picture attached to the card was a lady. She looks at my sister and says it is her. She takes both of their cards and heads off to a small room. Great! We are at the beginning of the boarding line, and we have already caused a blockage. She is gone for a bit and then comes back saying it is all fixed. Yay! Down the hall we go, embarkation photo taken, and into the atrium we go. We get announced and given all the dining options. We decide to head up to Cabana’s to see what we could see. Let me just say, we couldn’t see much. The right side of Cabana’s was already crazy crowded. We had sailed Princess a couple of years ago, and they had the drop by any station, grab what you want, and move on thing going in their dining room. I have to say it worked much better on the Princess ship. I think the reason the whole flow thing wasn’t working in Cabanas is because even though it is a drop by and grab what you want dining experience in theory, all the stations are in one long line. This is confusing to a lot of people who are used to the whole buffet style of dining that Disney has on the other two ships. Princess has their different stations clumped randomly throughout the dining room so there is no way you can form a line and walk down it. Needless to say Cabana’s was not necessarily my favorite place, but it was ok, I just hate feeling like I am a pushy line cutting person, but it would have taken hours to get food if I walked down it in a line.
We ate lunch, and as soon as DS finished eating, he was ready to swim. Thank goodness I packed his swim suit in my day bag. I handed it to him, he changed and was off to swim. The swimming pools were not nearly as crowded as I thought they would be, and he mulled around in the pool awhile.

See how empty the pools were!
IMG_6341.jpg

I had brought my swimsuit on board in my day bag also, so I decided to go put mine on and hang out with him for awhile. It didn’t take long and we had our sights set on the AquaDuck. We climbed the stairs, which by the way, if are in the sun get hot rather quickly. Luckily the line was not very long and we were standing in shade when we reached the end of the line. It only took about 15 minutes and we were getting on the raft. The ride was a blast, and I giggled all the way down it. As soon as we were at the bottom we had to do it again. The line still wasn’t very long, and 15 minutes we were back on the ride.

IMG_6360.jpg

After the second time I went to find the family and DS went to dip back in the pool. I was surprised that even as busy as Deck 11 was, the pools were still not terribly crowded. DS got out of the pool and it was right about 1:30. We were both done swimming so we went to check out our rooms and drop our stuff off. On the way there, we ran into Pluto, and he was happy to take a picture with us.

IMG_6365.jpg

We checked out the room, changed back out of my swimsuit, met our Room Hostess Jaime, and left to explore the ship some more and get the whole Cabana issue straightened out. So I headed to Port Adventures where I explained I had Cabana #17 for both days, and the computer wouldn’t let me add my linked stateroom to my Cabana when I booked and could he do that for me. Long answer short was No, it is up to Concierge to decide if they will add people. Really? I then had to explain that the lady on the phone specifically told me to go to Port Adventures and it would be no problem, and that it was my understanding that the price of the Cabana included 6 people and I wanted all 6 that I was paying for. At that point he picks up the phone and calls Concierge, and in under a minute they were added. Thanks! Now can you do that for the second day too?
With the Cabana thing all squared away we went and checked out the ship. There are so many cool places to look at, so we just ventured awhile and then all the sudden it was already time for the lifeboat drill and then sail away! We opted to return to our room for the sail away as we had balconies we wanted to use, and we have done the sail away party in the past. We waved our hearts out as we sailed out to see. As soon as we were just pulling out of port, I ask my dad what time it is. YIKES! It is already 5:30. We have dinner at 5:45. Time to hurry and get dressed! I enjoy having early dining, but be aware that if you do early dining you miss the sail away from almost all the ports on the Bahaman cruise. Our dinning rotation was AERRA. So we were headed to Animators Palette. We were directed to our table #97 and we met our assistant server Meible and our server Selcuk. They were both awesome and we enjoyed seeing them every night for dinner. Animators is really cool, and on the screens, the Nemo characters would swim around. When Crush came around, he singled out my husband and started talking to him.

DSCF0360.jpg

Very Cool! He called him Dangerous Don and asked where we were from. He asked who he was traveling with and gave him a hard time when he just replied “my family.” Crush then asked him if he knew the names of his family. We found it quite fun, but DH was a little shy about it, which made it even better. I am not a big food person, so I don’t remember what we ate…it was food. But, after dinner we walked around on deck 4 looking at the cool lights that illuminate under that water. Finding Nemo was playing on the big screen over the swimming area, and DH wanted to go watch. We went and grabbed our chairs, and an ice cream cone (we hadn’t eaten enough at dinner, bwa ha ha), at sat back for the show.

DSCF0383.jpg

When it first came on there was no sound, but DH pointed it out to a cast member, and within minutes there were tons of people fixing it. Sound was back before Nemo swam out to touch the “butt”. We watched for awhile till we got cold and tired, and then went back to our rooms to turn in for the night. What a fabulously terrific day in the nice warm weather!

Up next Castaway Cay Day #1

Thanks to everyone for joining in. Makes me actually want to type faster knowing people are reading. Is the green in my previous post awful? If it is too hard to read, let me know and I will go back to black. I just thought it would be easier for people to make out the trip report portion.

Loving reliving the Dream with you!! We sailed 12/11 and I'm still in withdrawals!! Subbing!popcorn::

I'm enjoying your TR and looking forward to my June 10 double dip!

I AM REALLY ENJOYING READING YOUR POSTS. MY BOYS(13&9)AND I WILL BE SAILING AWAY ON THE DREAM IN 20 DAYS...WOOOOHOOO!!!! AND YOUR POSTS ARE JUSTING ADDING TO THE ANTICIPATION:goofy:...KEEP THEM COMING!!!

I like the different color font for the actual trip report. Makes it easier to skip over the talk if you want to do so.

Glad you got the cabanas worked out without too much of an issue. The line for AquaDuck was great! We went straight there and then grabbed lunch around 1pm after the crowds had died down some.

I am enjoying your report! I'm so glad to see someone do a detailed report about the MCO Hyatt...we are staying there before our cruise too. :)
