Once you take away that "fantasy" aspect of tag fairies and webmasters are not the wizard of Oz but people who have to make decisions and have people to answer to, too, then maybe this so called debacle can be seen as what it is.

Robin, what you say makes sense to me. But it's like, at this point, I'd almost rather have them come here and say, "Hey guys, you know what? We're not going to tell you what happened. This is how we choose to run our board. And there won't be any comments about it again." Because at least that way, I would thank them for the wonderful times they've given me, pack my bags, and keep on keepin on.

But when someone comes in and tells you you'll receive an answer, you sort of hope you'll get one. I fear everytime I post in one of these threads, but since so many others are gone, I feel like I have to. If one of these posts is what gets me banned, so be it. I'd rather go out letting my opinion be known.

You have summed up my feelings very well. Great post. This is exactly how I feel. Everyone is walking on egg shells and the ones who didn't were banned. Things HAVE settled a bit but handing out tags like Halloween candy also isn't going to fill the void.



Well in a lot of cases the people banned weren't told why, no warnings, no points, nothing. People keep citing the poster who was banned WHILE they were on vacation. What did they do when they weren't even using their computer???

I want an explanation because Alex promised me one. He came here and started a thread saying that they would explain things. Frankly, without that thread I wouldn't have had any clue that any drama was happening. That thread implied that the missing posters were involved in some kind of legal action by The Dis. That was very worrisome to me. Now WMKathy has since clarified those statements but when you hear (from Alex) that now banned posters are being contacted by the Dis corporate lawyers and no one can tell you why, it tends to get people a bit worked up.

I'd also like the webmasters to speak out because this isn't the 1st time I've seen this happen here. People have been banned en mass before and it always seems to reek of cronyism. The teachers pets are safe while committing the same infractions the rebels were banned for.

I hold no ill will toward the WMs or Alex or Pete - I've never gotten any points or warnings. But like others I'm just sad and frustrated. The Dis is one of my favorite places and right now the fun has been sucked out of this place. I have every confidence that things will stabilize but I also don't think the events of the last week should be swept under the rug.

Very well said - unfortunately, some were banned for posting similar questions - or alluding to similar questions. Some of us are direct - some of us kind of tease, but the point is to keep the lines of communication open....and hopefully get some answers.....or AT LEAST a clear expectation of how to "behave" on the board without getting in trouble. I don't mind following rules when all the players know what the rules are.

Well yes, it might..This may be a private board but it is also a business of which many of us are clients...I use and have really liked Dreams Unlimited. I've used it 4-5 times..I'd like to keep using them..They may very well lose my business with what is going on right now..I'm not the only one..We choose whether or not we post here. We choose whether or not we use DU...If I don't feell like this board treats everyone the same way that may change

I guess after years of working for corporations that LIE to you, listening to politicians that LIE to you and just being LIED to over and over no matter what you grow callous.

I'm sure most of you are nowhere as OLD as me, I fought the powers that be most of my life, my Mom told me that was the way of life.

In the past few years I've learned one thing works, vote with my feet.

If I don't like the way things are, I voice my distaste but I don't stay. I leave or find an alternative. My sister says my religion is "escapism"..

Life is too short. I give it to someone else to fight my battles. People cannot destroy me, only I can do that.

I haven't been able to make heads or tails out of this whole situation since it blew up. I recognized some of the names of posters who are reportedly gone & don't have a problem with any of them & couldn't even begin to comment on the other names, since I didn't even recognize them.

I've enjoyed lots of threads here, posted in some, learned a few things & prayed for people who either asked for it or I felt needed an assist & that was maybe the only thing I could do for them. I've even enjoyed posts from those who stand so opposite my own opinion on something we may as well be on other planets -- when they post them thoughtfully & respectfully, not just assuming that anyone who feels differently is an idiot. Folks on the TPAS board clued me in on many, many planning tips for our last visit & I appreciate that more than I can say.

I tend not to share identifying information on the net, which may explain why I'm not what I would call "friends" w/ people here. Although there are a few I have a very friendly acquaintance with & love to joke around with & turn to immediately if I'm trying to plan a trip. I know it must be sad for people who have come here a long time & shared this w/ their friends to be missing them, but I've got to believe that this is going to get ironed out. I can't fathom what could have gone on to bring this into the legal arena, but I can tell you from professional experience that if this is now a legal matter, it's not usually a quick process & I'm sure many of the moderators don't know much more than anyone else here about what's gone/going on -- and those who do cannot speak to it until legally allowed to do so, which may not be anytime soon, no matter how much people stomp their feet & throw their fists in the air complaining.

Maybe a little bit of patience could go a long way to keeping this place happy and cohesive -- hopefully paying off in a return to the "good old days."

Hard to be patient when you scroll around bored because many prolific posters are gone..........it just isn't as fun. I know I've started looking at other boards now and it's only a matter of time before those looking at and participating in other sites become used to that instead of this. If this isn't taken care of in a timely manner, it may not ever be "like the good old days" again.

It is my understanding that the owner(s?) and moderators are mourning the loss of a longtime, close friend, who was like family to some of them.

I expect it will take a while before they are able to direct their attention to Bangate 08.

And I may get pounded for this, but I think it would be nice if everyone would give them a little time to grieve.

I read the link that RVGal posted to WM Alex's original statement. I agree that patience seems to be needed at this point. It's only been a few days since their statement. Since the true nature of everything is unknown, perhaps, legally, the admins can't say anymore. Who knows? I thought it was a respectful statement from the webmasters and I'll wait and see what they have to say.

CB, I agree, and I don't think we are asking for answers TODAY. It's been weeks now before the loss. Someone though is saying we shouldn't look for answers at all, and I believe that is what we are discussing.

To be honest, I don't know what is going on with whatever everyone seems to have a problem with, but I will state for the record that the mods and owners should be given a good amount of time to grieve. They've lost a good friend and it will take time for them. The goings on of banning people from posting IMHO pale in comparison to losing a friend. After all, we can still keep up with the lives of those friends banned. The mods/owners can not keep up with Bob anymore. It's time to let go of this agenda for a little while and show some support.

I am all for giving them time and room to grieve.

With that said, I am afraid that if we let the subject drop entirely now, it will be totally ignored or another reason to banish posters and erase their concerns at a later date. We are not trying to push this into the forefront at the moment. We do respect the passing of a friend to many and a moderator of this board. We just want to be sure his passing isn't seized an excuse to make all of this go away.

There's very little than can be done to make this right. An explination is necessary but many people, if allowed, will never come back after being treated like this and I can't say I blame them.

I really am clueless but am a little afraid to speak up but here goes. I really am a very caring person. I don't get involved with controversary. I don't even know what threads caused this mess. I do however not see why the passing of a friend should hinder the problem at hand. When my father died, I had 3 days off work and then had to do my job. Was I still upset? Of course. I still have problems with it and it was 18 years ago but I still carry on and do my job. I'll give anyone the support they need...especially when it comes to straightening out unfairness. But it seems there are a lot of bad feelings here. Should things have been handled differently? Are certain posters being favored? Did those banned get a fair deal? What's wrong with caring about people? I think some must post just to cause problems but some just post because they care.
I guess I need a link to the thread that states the rules so I'll know how many points this will cost me.
