After reading the threads I had no idea what has been going on in the overall boards, both the depths of rudeness on the board as well as the recent loss of an important person. It sounds like you hands are full if so many people have talked about threads disappearing and such. To be honest, I only come here for Disney info and frequent the Codes and RAtes, REsort, Theme Park and Dining boards and that is it and only because we are planning a trip. The rest of my time is spent on homeschooling boards where I am gathering the atmosphere must be different than this. I also live in a tiny town where if you don't know where you are going and what you are doing...just ask someone, they will tell you! It is a friendly place and people don't cuss and are generally friendly and helpful, so I guess I am just sheltered. I will probably still go over to the boards I mentioned, but will just turn try to ignore threads. I just hate seeing people be mean to each other. It isn't right!! I was just so upset at the tone, but I had NO idea that the moderators were dealing with much worse. It never even gets close to that on my other boards. Thanks to many of you who tried to help and once again moderators, thank you for all you do on this board. I will be praying for you.

Christine

With all due respect, I really don't know what you're reading. I honestly don't. Now, I don't really understand all the other controversies that have been alluded to recently, either, so maybe you want to join MY world of ignorant bliss?:goodvibes

I can't tell you all the helpful and friendly advice I've received on these boards over the past 7 years. I've had differing opinions with people, also, about standing at concerts, overweight kids, American Idol, and presidential candidates. But that's what I love about this board. You can debate and disagree and often come out the other side with a new perspective on life. I really appreciate it and wouldn't want a thing to change.

I totally agree with choirfam and want to give a big :thumbsup2 to the moderators. It seems to me the meanness has reached epic proportions and I think everyone's under a bit of a strain right now. Heck, even I lost a bit of my temper yesterday when someone accused me of looking down my nose at them and I'm almost always a very calm person.

I'll be glad when everything settles down and we can get back to the friendly, respectful discussions about our lives that we've all come to know and love about the DIS. In the meantime, here's to you Moderators. It's a thankless job and I, for one, would like to thank you for doing it.

Are we still expecting a statement from the Webmasters about what the heck happened?

There is a frost advisory here in Georgia. Anyone else getting a cold snap?

I go on vacation and seem to miss everything lol...

So you decided not to leave this site? I'm a bit surprised since you were pretty passionate yesterday about how terrible and nasty people are here. Good luck with whatever you do.

i dont see it that way. are discussions heated? sometimes they are, but the vast majority are very civil. i think it is hilarious when people ask for opinions and then get all bent out of shape when the opinions are exactly the opposite of what they want to hear. and they go off and threaten to never post on the board again. it seems that direct answers that dont have the warm and fuzzies are seen as somehow, not nice. i dont understand that.

I just REALLY need information. For example, I didn't have ANY idea that Disney was just cancelling people's ADR's if they thought they were double booked. I have 2 reservations at the same time: one for the 3 boys at Biergarten, one for the two girls at Askerhaus. So I will need to change the boy reservation to my husband's name. I would NEVER have known that if I didn't frequent here. I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row, so that this will be a perfect trip and everyone will be happy and we have no nasty surprises. I don't know where else to go for the frequency of posts/information. TGM is much more civil, but not nearly as many people.

I am much the same way as the OP. I tend to stick to the trip planning boards. I lurk on the community board but don't post all that often. Most of the time I feel like when I do that I'm gate crashing a party or something.

I will say that I've noticed an awful lot of rudeness and lots of condescending attitudes on the trip planning boards. It seems like certain people are allowed to get away with a lot of that type of behavior and others aren't. I will admit to occasionally going to other sites to ask a question if I can't find the answer here because a lot of questions are met with answers where the OP is talked down to and made to feel like an idiot for even asking. It's almost like you have to be an expert at everything or you aren't worthwhile. THere are certain topics I wouldn't dream of asking a question on here because that topics resident expert swoops in with a major attitude. Or worse, two experts swoop in and act like teritorial animals over who is more right on the topic. All the other stuff going on lately makes things worse.

I'm sure the moderators of such a large board work hard, I just wish the rules were applied uniformly to all posters and that some teachers pets weren't given a pass.

I don't listen to the podcast, but I am very sorry to hear of Bob's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

See I'm a little fearful of the Trip Planning forums.

On the other hand, if you want a very pleasant message board experience, go to the Universal planning board. I just started over there and everyone is sooooo sweet, it's unreal. Get this: (long time CBers will know what I mean here)....somebody asked on the US boards if it's okay if their kid wore Heelys in the parks. I am not kidding! And they got the most polite responses. "that's probably not a good idea" etc. I was in SHOCK! :lmao: :lmao:

 Hang in there. Don't stop posting your questions, that's the purpose of these boards. And if you have a question that you are afraid to ask after all this, then pm me and I'll try and help you out!

As a regular poster on the US board, thank you. That is incredibly nice to hear. We are a small, but welcoming bunch. Most of us have an equal love (and knowledge) of Disney and Universal. That just doesn't seem to be the case on the rest of the boards, so we stick to our little corner of the DIS. I think it is because we get bashed so often for daring to enjoy SOP (that's Some Other Park) that we try to be very careful not flame anyone on our boards unless they really, really, really ask for it. :goodvibes

As for the topic, yes I am sure that being a moderator is a mostly thankless job. I do, however, wish that there was something a bit more uniform about the whole warning/points/ban process. For most of us, if you give us rules, we'll try to follow them. If we start tap dancing near the boundaries, give us a warning and we'll pull back. If we don't, slap us with points and we'll be sure to get the message. If we continue on that path, a ban is in order.

I don't think that is too much to ask for, and while some people are asking in loud and angry voices, that's still what it all boils down to.

I have never seen cussing on this board regardless of what forum you're reading. That's what the filters are for. :confused3

Yes indeed, and if you use @#$§ etc in your cuss-words to avoid the filter, you get points

I know, that confused me too. You simply CAN'T curse here. Maybe OP might have seen some flippin implied cursing, know what I mean?

Sorry, I didn't mean that I saw cussing on this board...I did not. My point was that I guess I live a very sheltered life in a very small town. No.. I haven't seen that. And what in the world are the points everyone is talking about?

Christine

You live indeed a very sheltered life if no one is ever cussing around you! :)

When you don't behave, try to get around the filter or post snarky replies (as if we'd ever do that! ), you get points. From a certain number of points, privileges are been taken away, and if you still don't behave, this might be one of the many reasons for you to get banned.

You get points for infractions of the rules. Enough points and you're gone. Points expire, though. I got points for a big signature, but they are gone now.
