Apology to moderators

Am I the only one getting sick of the YAGE-ing? Yes the mods are saints and over the last few days no one was banned for saying cornbread.

I'm sorry for their loss, I really truly am but that didn't stop them from continuing the blood bath and handing out tags to appease the masses.

I've said before I'm really not trying to get banned, I'd like to keep posting here but I am getting frustrated with the situation. I'm sure the mods are in a terrible position and they do have a thankless job but we really do need an explanation. We never got one the last time this happened and I doubt we will now.

OT, but you get banned for saying cornbread??????? That's a new one for me...
OK, I have to know, for what is it secret code?

Christine,

I have homeschooled and was on several homeschooling boards and I absolutely understand what you mean. They are a completely different vibe from what you find here. But it is just a matter of different people and the fact that you find a much more diverse pool of people on a board like this. I have also been on other types of boards that were unmoderated and unfiltered and they were over the top nasty.

The great thing about the internet is that there are many different types of forums available. There are many Disney boards that are strictly moderated and you may find that you would feel more comfortable on one of those. Many people do. You can get plenty of planning advice and ask questions and get the answers you need. While I am not encouraging you to leave the DIS, I completely understand that the DIS atmosphere is not for everyone. I love that things here are much more free than at other boards, but that fits my personality and that of most everyone here.

Thank you for your apology. :goodvibes Feel free to PM me if you need anything.

LTS

I'll risk it.

Souther4Sure's last post was about her fondness for "pot lickers"... that's cornbread broken up in a bowl with turnip green drippings poured over the top (for those of you not from the old south because it isn't even common around here anymore).

I see...
I'm slowly walking away now...
I suggest you come with me!

Btw, OP, Mouseplanet is moderated more strictly than the DIS. It's not as big as here, but they also have very good tips for Disney and they don't even allow you to insinuate something!

I think everyone who I have talked with have been nice. (even the one who ask me to change a post....I didn't mean anything about the phrase I used and she called me out for it...I deserved it...and she was still friendly after that...)....I said I was sorry and meant , she was happy with that.

I also think exchanging opinions and point of views can be very healthy and educational. you can see things from a different point of view than you may have had on certain subjects..

The rules...wow...I don't mean to break them...:scared1: Just don't always think ....:flower3:

BTW....do you get little warnings sent to you or is it just poof....you in time out

Sorry, I didn't mean that I saw cussing on this board...I did not. My point was that I guess I live a very sheltered life in a very small town. No.. I haven't seen that. And what in the world are the points everyone is talking about?

Christine

I have yet to see any cussing on the boards other than when people try to cuss and the filter * it out. you must live a very sheltered life if you never are exposed to cussing (Do you live in OH? :lmao: J/k)..
Points are for us "bad" people.. aka..like me...:rotfl2:

I have had both 1 warning for something and something else just got me points..HTH

Lots of people are frustrated.

Choirfarm, one minute you jump all over the mods, the next you think they are fabulous. Ever hear of moderation? Mods are humans........they aren't completely evil nor completely saintly.

I thank the mods for being there. The boards are made up of people with differing opinions and that is good. Rudeness is not. I was saddened today to see a post I had started to say that I like DIS had been locked as people couldn't just leave a nice post alone. Arguing ensued. So I'm saying it here, I like the mods who are doing a tough job for free (sort of like parenting). Karen

Hi.. grin that is the problem with the internet. In my first post I did not mean to imply that they were evil. In this post I did not mean to impy that they were saints. They are just people. I just posted this because I was afraid I may have hurt the moderators feelings and since I don't read most of the board, I had no idea about many of the other things going on so my post was hasty. Does that make sense?? I just really didn't want anyone to get upset over what I said.

I'm sorry you feel like your thread was hijacked. But could you take a moment to look at it from another perspective? In the last ten days, we've had over a 100 people banned. These are people we liked and cared about, that we posted with regularly. And for the most part we haven't got a clue why. Some of them, in anger and frustration, posted inappropriate stuff, but most of them didn't. There doesn't seem to be a logical reason why this has been done. We've been promised an explanation, days ago, and we're still waiting. So can you see why your post praising the moderation on the board, feels to some posters, a little bit like salt being rubbed in some very raw wounds? I've never been given a warning, or gotten points, but I'm wondering if this post may be the one that gets me banned. Can you see how frustrating that can be?

I respect the fact that moderating a board this size is huge and often thankless job. Most of the time they get it right, or at least as right as humanly possible. But this one time I'm not so sure. Even if the banning were appropriate, the lack of communication and transparency has created a much bigger problem then it needed to be.

I hope this helps you see where some of us are coming from and maybe you won't think the CB is such a cruel rude place. It's just got a bit of turmoil right now. :hippie:

Very Well Said!! :thumbsup2

Makes perfect sense. :)

I'll get my flame suit on now . . .

In my opinion, I think that those that were banned, for whatever reason, do deserve an explanation for that. No one should be made to wonder, and obviously that leads to more speculation.

But, there seems to be a lot of current disboard members (and friends of those banned) who are demanding that the mods tell you why. I don't see that the mods need to really discuss this information with anyone except those directly involved, and I'm sure that if and when they do, you'll hear the story from your friends.

In the history of this board, how many people have been banned for infractions that you never heard about? Do the mods publicly post their reasons behind every individual point given out? Do they keep you informed of every executive decision they make? If you worked in an office and the "boss" fired someone, would you demand an explanation? It seems that this drama won't go away until you get what you want, and all I'm saying is be prepared for that not to happen. I respect the friendships you've made, and do understand how you feel duped and angry, but if you're still on these boards posting, they are not, then who's business is it really?

When injustices have occurred, they are everyone's business.

I've at least scanned every post on this thread. I'm confused about how the homeschool boards you are speaking of are so different from the DIS. I know home-schooling is a hot topic with a couple of extremes on either end of the spectrum, so I'd guess there must be lots of of ugly arguments on those boards . Is it really bad over there :scared:?
The DIS has issues, and some people here have hot buttons or are even just plain weird. But despite the occasional thread about mug/ pool/crockpot/etc. usage, or even non-Disney topics about the politics (national and DIS) and such, for the most part the DIS is quite civil and not overly or underly moderated.

When there seems to be no reason for most of the bans that have happened, that leaves the rest of us to wonder what we may or may not be doing that will get us banned. For that, yes, they do owe us an explanation.

It isn't fair to leave us in the dark if it means that we constantly question if this post will be "the" post that gets us banned.

It isn't fair that the people that were banned weren't given a reason and, yes, that reason is between the DIS and them... but it isn't fair that so many were banned in a seemingly random way with no reason given to anyone. That is my business. That is everyone's business.
