So if one person has an AP, can the rest of the family be on a package with free dining? We are going for 6 days and I don't want to pay for a 6-day ticket when I have an AP. so can the rest of the family be on a package with free dining and I will just pay out of pocket for my meals? Any advice??

Everyone on the reservation has to have the same package.

One thing you can do is get the least number of days for all tickets, which is two I think. Put your set aside to use at a later date and upgrade the other tickets for the number of days/hopper/wp&m-whatever you would get, and you use your AP for this trip.
Your set can be used for your next trip or to upgrade to an AP again. They will not expire until after the first use so even if you don't go back for 10 years, they will still be valid for use/upgrading.

Do you need ME? If not you can just get the pkg for ev1 and then have yourself added right before the trip. I forgot the cutoff for dining I think it's 72 hours so do it a day or so before the trip. You could also be added once your family gets there so you don't have to have the pkg that they have.

Not sure how it would work if you need ME. I think you can still be added before the trip but might have to have your ME paperwork printed out at the airport counter instead of receiving tags in the mail.

Hopefully somebody else that knows more about the procedure can chime in

If the OP wants Free Dining as well, then this won't work. Even if you add someone 72 hours in advance, they will be tied down to the same ticket obligations. The only way for what you're suggesting to work is if they don't want Free Dining, and they add themselves to the reservation after arrival, which is where ME issues may arise.

The only other way to be free from Free Dining's restrictions is to book a completely separate room, but that would likely be more expensive than paying for and pocketing the 2 day base ticket.

You can add days to the rest of your family's tickets during the trip.

OP wants to pay OOP for meals and doesn't need a ticket so it should work if she is added like 24-48 hours prior. She can have ME paperwork printed out at the airport we've done that before when we planned a last minute trip 2 days before we were arriving.

Do I have this correct?

The AP holder would buy 2 day tickets, along with everyone else on the reservation.

AP holder does not use their 2 day tickets, but holds them until renewal time for their AP, and would get $176 (current 2 day ticket price) credit towards the renewal.

Everyone else on reservation would upgrade their 2 day tickets to how ever many days they really need and add hoppers or whatever else they want.

yep.

Awesome. DD has a friend who lives in Florida that might join us for a couple days. Looks like it would cost us an extra $358 to add her to our 6 night trip. She'd be able to use the 2 day tickets towards her renewal, and we'd get the benefit of her unused dining credits that are left over.

If you didn't want to pay for her ticket option and have her receive dining you could add her once you are at the resort and she'd not have to have the pkg that the rest have. She might be cheaper just paying OOP for meals while she is there vs buying the pkg

But I thought everyone in the room had to be on the same original package.

:confused3

only if she's added before the trip. If you add her AFTER 72 hours prior (I might be wrong on the hours) or just add her once you get to the resort she doesn't have to have the pkg
