Thursday 30th our journey home
We were woken at 9am by the guard from the UK wed met the day before. He explained that hed been given free tickets to one of the parks so hed thought of us. How nice was that? I wish I could remember his name (it may have been Phil? Im doing this from home now so I cant remember!)
We were hungry so it was off to the lounge, where we could take our pick from 4 different cereal types, fresh fruit, bagels and cream cheese, doughnuts etc. I had a bagel with cream cheese and a doughnut with a cup of Earl Grey.
Soon it was time to bid farewell to the Contemporary. We loved staying here and wed definitely stay again. We picked up the car from valet and off we went to Downtown Disney to check-in for our flight home. We had no idea where it was but we thankfully found a Virgin Holidays representative who pointed us in the right direction. It was behind La Nouba. Our cases were taken straight away and we then got in the Premium Economy queue. We were seen to so quickly. We then had to point out our cases so they could be labeled. No luggage was weighed. It cost us $10 and it was so worth it, wed definitely do it again. We were now free to spend our last day as we pleased as our flight wasnt leaving until gone 6pm.
Our first stop was International Drive to raid some of the cheapy tourist shops looking for a Gator Whiz t-shirt for my mums fiancé. No joy unfortunately, but I will find one, I vow to! Next stop, our last trip to Walmart. We bought a Gameboy Advance SP for my mum for her birthday as shes loved playing with mine we bought it for much cheaper than home. I also bought some tops and a few other bits. It was nearing 1pm by now so we decided to hit Chilis by Florida Mall. Shanghai wings as usual, followed by the turkey club sandwich for hubby and the bleu cheese burger for me. Halfway through my meal, my stomach started doing its washing machine impression. I hate this, I get really nauseous. Hubby asked our server for some ginger ale for me. It started to work quite quickly. The server came back and asked me if I was ok, so I explained how we were flying home, how much I hate flying and the horrid washing machine feeling I get in my stomach. She said she was the same and recommended a tablet called Dramamine it was for motion sickness and it knocks you out apparently. I thanked her and said Id buy some at the airport. I left her a huge tip for being so helpful, I was really pleased.
The drive to MCO was uneventful. We bid farewell to our lovely Jeep at Alamo and headed for the terminal with our hand luggage. I looked in the Disney Store for some last minute goodies but found nothing I wanted. The security gate was a breeze, we were through in minutes. A monorail arrived as we approached it so we were near our gate in no time at all. We walked straight to the duty free shop, where Andy bought cigarettes. We then walked to our gate, took our seats and chilled out. Andy bought himself a Tetris game back at Mindworks when he started twitching and needed a cigarette. I think its terrible how the whole airport is non-smoking now at least Sanford has smoking areas.
I took a wander back to the shops and came back with some more magazines to read. We were meant to start loading at 5.30pm but the plane was still being cleaned so no take off at 6.05pm then. Premium Economy were called on and we got settled. I asked for some ginger ale when we were offered champagne, bucks fizz or orange juice and a kind stewardess poured me a glass. Id already taken 2 dramamine pills about 45 minutes before boarding. I was awake on take off and it took me awhile to get settled unfortunately. I had a little panic about 30 minutes in and started to cry, so hubby gave me 2 more pills. I tried playing on my Gameboy Advance to calm me. Finally, the films started. Dinner was served about an hour and a half after take off and the smell made me feel really horrid. I requested the tray without the hot meal. The film choices we had included Elf, Bad Santa, Collateral, I-Robot, The Lion King and the Jungle Book.
I watched the Jungle Book and got a few minutes in before falling asleep. I slept for 1 and a half hours, which was fabulous! I dont normally sleep for more than a couple of minutes during flights. Yay for Dramamine! I then watched The Lion King while reading magazines and drinking water. I was nodding off occasionally and I tucked into my crackers and cheese when I got puckish. Hubby made googoo eyes at my cheesecake so I let him have it. I then attacked a bag of Cheetos. I mustve fallen asleep soon after, and then next thing I knew Andy was nudging me in the ribs and the pilot was making the announcement that we were about to start our decent into Gatwick! Woohoooo!! Id actually slept for another 3 and a bit hours and missed breakfast! If I ever see that server again, I will give her the biggest hug ever! We landed about 30 minutes later
We were off the plane first and walked for about 10 minutes to get to Passport Control. Our luggage arrived quickly, we waited no more than 5 minutes. I turned on my mobile and had a message from my mum saying welcome back. She met us in arrivals and we had a big hug. The drive back to Croydon was very smooth. Foofoo the cat was in to greet us and she wouldnt leave us alone. Hubby went to bed for a few hours sleep before our drive to Wales later on that day, and then I went out to lunch with mum and my brother. We were home and I was very happy to be there.
Thanks for reading about our latest adventure - you'll now have to wait until October for the next one.
coming up tho - some more photos!
