I am in desperate need of a second job. I work M-F 9-5 at my full-time job with an occasional Saturday, but I need to supplement my income.
Is H&R Block easy to work with scheduling wise? I would make myself available every weekend and after 5:30 or so at night.

Or, any other suggestions? I'm a paralegal and have only worked in one fastfood place other than law offices.
THanks!

I have worked there the past two years. They are very flexible with the scheduling. Get your application in online ASAP!! The training may have already started. If you do not want to be a tax professional apply to be a receptionist. I forget the exact title of that position. The compnay is not a bad place to work. Alot of training and support to make you successful. Good Luck!!

Its not a bad place to work. You do go to training (quite extensive even for the receptionist position). But, keep in mind that they only keep a full staff during the "peak" season, which is the first part of tax season. After that, they let some of the preparers go and cut the hours of the receptionists.

After the first few weeks, it just didn't really do much to help us financially.

Most retail stores are hiring for the holiday season. If you can get a commissioned sales job you can make pretty good money for not working a lot of hours. Waitressing in a nicer restaurant is a good idea too-probably the best overall pay for the number of hours. By nicer, something along the lines of Red Lobster-not high, high end but somewhere where the bill will be $50 or more for a couple.

I've thought about retail but unfortunately I work full-time day so my availability is limited to aftre 5:30 p.m. NOt very appealing to most retailers. We have no Red Lobsters and just like everywhere else, not many places are hiring. I"ll complete my H&R Block application on-line today.

Even if I can make a little bit of money to get some bills paid off I;ll feel better.

Actually most retailers-at malls anyway-have part time shifts that are only nights and weekends as their full time people generally get the better daytime shifts. Again, a lot of places are hiring seasonally so I would check around. Often a good seasonal worker will be kept on after Christmas.

Several years ago, just as I was starting my sideline Income Tax Practice (my degree is in accounting) I went over to Block to see about getting a job.

They told me even though I had a degree in Accounting and had taken two semesters of Income Taxation I had to take their course. And they would not promise me a job even with a good score on the exam. Also they did show me the employment contract. I walked out and never went back.
