hiya

i have just sponsored for the ak event and found it a good thing to do, even though i need to iron the details straighter next time

i was wanting to ask how easy it will be to find people to sponsor for the other events as I am keen to find people for all wdw and dlr events

thanx luv2roam, i will try

Does anybody need sponsoring to an event?

could someone run down what it takes to
be a sponsor/be sponsored...
I've always wanted to do this for one thing
or another... but I never really knew how
this all worked with RSP's and stuff...
I'm thinking of going to the HM event this year...
but I cannot afford both me and my BF to go!
(he wouldn't want to pay for something like that!
but he wouldn't want to sit in the hotel alone either!)

so someone please - I need help!

For the AK event, Blaine was sponsored.
The event cost per person was $125. Blaine's sponsor paid $100, since a meal was included.
We just acted like Blaine was that person. The sponsor got everthing Blaine did. Well with the exception of the two :sad2: pins from the event trade board. (Not that I am harping on the subject. ;) :jester: Didn't bother me ONE BIT! :jester: :jester:   ) But had they been anything decent, I would even send those to them. I can do better for them on a regular lanyard trade.
He even got an AP pin. That went to the sponsor too.
They ended up only buying one pin. (They had complete control over one RSP.) I just ended up making a trade rather than have them pay me for the pin. And they will pay me in pins for the cost of the postage.
I even sent the cutesy carved animal from one of the AK games.

I would love to sponsor someone for the event in September since there is no way I can get there. However, how do you know if you are sponsoring a person who is actually going to send you the pins? I know there are a lot of honest people in the world but I have run into a few who aren't so honest.

Also, will the sponsored person trade on the trade boards if I send them some traders?

Thanks so much, Penny

Luckily I have only heard of people sponsoring honest people.
I am sure there are some horror stories somewhere though.
Ask for references, and check those references, is my best suggestion.
I would have no problem trading pins for others. I have done it, and do it, on a regular basis anyway. (But I don't lanyard surf anywhere near like I use to when I was vacationing here.)

Just make sure all the details are ironed out at the start. Shipping xosts, how/when the merchandise will be shipped, etc.

I only sponsored someone one time. It went fairly good, except I did come up two pins short. :( In fairness the other person offered to make up for it and I should have taken them up on it. If they did not receive the pins, they should have known at the event by checking their pick up merchandise.

And from other people I have seen where I know family members are being sponsored -- I would say just make sure you have someone responsible and will do what they claim. Ask what their intentions and schedule is that day. See if it matches what you want and expect.

I have only been to these two events, and I can say having traders would have made little if any difference. So I wouldn't go too much on that factor.
The only ones I have really seen walk away with trades you would expect at a pin event REALLY worked the room. They worked at their trades. Some even very agressively.
Usually people who trade at a table on their own say they do much better than at the Disney trade boards. Plus they get to sit and not stand all day. ;)

I just completed a sponsorship for Adventures in Pin Trading. I hope I was a good sponsor, but it was my first time. I am currently looking for a sponsor for the 999 Happy Haunts Ball, but I am guessing until the merchandise comes out no one will really be biting. I'll even take $25 off for food. :)

Thanks for all of the information. When i went to the pin event in EPCOT last Sept I spent a lot of time standing in line to get pins off the boards. I did get some good ones, but went home with a very, very sore back. However, it was my first pin event so i chalked it up to a learning process.
However, I went out for a soda and traded with a CM and received an AP in return. only time that ever happened to me.::yes::
again, thanks everyone for the information. Penny
