Anyone use Assurant Health?

I've been paying for DD's health insurance through Blue Cross for the past several years because it was less expensive then getting it through our work insurance. It has been inching (or should I say leaping) up for the past couple of years though with the jump being $45 more per month starting in January. I will be looking for alternatives until she gets a permanent job. She will be in grad school next year. Does anyone here use Assurant? How are they with claims etc? Even their most expensive plan is way under what I would pay with BCBS.

Their plan may cost less but what does it cover, what are the deductibles, etc. The premium isn't the only thing to look at. You could be paying $200/month for premiums and have a $20 co-pay for dr. visits and no other out of pocket costs vs a plan that is $100/month but you have a $2500 deductible before it covers anything. The "cheap" plan actually costs more out of pocket.

Never heard of anyone that actually has them though their commercials make it look interesting.

I agree ... totally need to balance everything. We ended up doing a high deductible plan last year and most people thought we were crazy. BUT with the higher increase of the old plan plus the co-pays for the dr. visits we knew we'd have, plus the co-pays for the standing RX's we have PLUS the regular deductible it ended up being A LOT cheaper going with the high deductible plan even in the event that we had a medical situation that caused us to reach the deductible (which of course we did one month after we changed!!) In theory, it would have worked out over the course of a year but since we had the major medical situation only one month later and then DH left the job after 7 months of premiums, it didn't work out last year!!

Yes, I am comparing oranges to oranges. The Assurant plan offers some things that the BCBS plan does not. Deductibles and out of pocket etc are nearly the same or a little better. I just wanted to see if people in the real world have good service from them.
