I'm in the process of making reservations for our upcoming September trip. Would like to know if anyone has anything to say about Bongo's.

I've never tried it but i want to for our xmas trip, but when i rang Disney Dining they said it was one of the places they couldn/t do adr's for.:confused3

I have been there plenty of times and bongos is great. We always have a good meal. The El Churrasco is what I always get with yellow rice and the sweet plantains.

Once was enough!
Bongo's was just a poor excuse for anything resembling Cuban food. Bland, not served hot even, etc.... The place was loud, like Planet Hoyywood loud, and the service was terrible. Our waitstaff was more interested in talking to each other and trying to look 'hip', rather than waiting on their tables.

We haven't be back for many years, and it isn't on the revisit list anytime soon. There are too many other excellent places to eat nearby.

My experience was the same. Black beans taste like they were from a can. There was no spice added to it. Service was sooo bad I did not even want to leave a tip. They get a lot of locals, however. Hated it won't go back. I know what well prepared Cuban food tastes like, and it is not like that.

We LOVED Boma's!!! I have to disagree I thought it tasted very authentic and the were the wait staff!!! If you enjoy Cuban food give it a try!! Remember it is not Mexican (spicy) it is Cuban!! LOVE IT!!!

We haven't been there in many years, but we loved it when we went. We are actually planning on trying it again on our upcoming Dec. trip.

If you are looking for authentic Cuban food, and you know the difference between the real thing and not, Bongo's may not be the choice for you. If you want Cuban, venture into Celebration and go to Columbia. If you are wanting a decent meal in DTD, then Bongo's is a good choice, just dont go into it with high expectations for authenticity...

FWIW their Sangria is pretty good...

My husband is Dominican, (different than Cuban but still Latin)and
he loves Bongos. We have to go every trip at least once. My
kids love the Cuban sandwiches and I always get the ropa vieja.
The papa rellenos is a delicious appetizer. Enjoy!

I like Boma as well, but that's at AKL, and their food is at least spiced (not spicy, but spiced, as in some flavor added).
Bongo's was our first experience with Cuban food, and it tasted like inexpensive beef boiled in water. The appetizers were served lukewarm, at best. About the only food there we found worthwhile were the plantains.
Service was terrible. No follow up, no refills, no dessert inquiry, just our waitperson standing around, cutting up and chatting with other waitstaff.

Having since had authentic Cuban food on a few occassions in Charlotte (NC), in comparison Bongo's just seems that much more of a disappointment!
Having had authentic (and good) Cuban food now, Bongo's will not make it back on the 'to do' list for many, many more years.
