The new car bug has bitten and we're considering a Volvo S40 or S60 and I wondered if I could get opinions from any of you that own one of these cars. TIA. :)

We have an s60. Chris just loves it. The seats are very comfy. There is only the two of us, so it has plenty of room. The trunk space is deceptive. It doesn't look roomy, but it is. So far, we have been very pleased....:D If you have any specific questions, just PM me.

Lori, I have a Volvo 850, which was the precursor to the S60. We have 120,000 miles on it and have had NO major problems; I'm hoping to get up to 200,000;) ;) !!!. Routine Maintenance tends to be a little pricey; that goes with the territory if you buy a Volvo. I've driven the S60 as loaner cars, and they have been very smoooooooooooth.

Good Luck,

we also have an 850 (with 190000 miles... beat you EROS! :p), and i'm a volvo fanatic. in my experience, volvos are very dependable (my 240 is 14 years old  ), but maintenence is relatively expensive since they're less common than say, a honda or ford. but it will last you a long time while keeping you safe and stylish. :smooth:

we have a S70...and love it....but the guys are right on about maintenance being pricey....flip side is they last forever and they are safe.
My goal is to hold onto mine until my DS (10 1/2) gets old enough to drive.

We have a 940 with 140,000 and it still running great. Within the next year that will go to my daughter and DH has his eye on an S80 T6.

I can't say enough good things about these cars. Find a good dealer where you trust the service department. Ours still gives loaners when we are having service. Not all do.

Ours has less than 50,000 mi. Had to have the A/C fixed last week and we weren't too thrilled when the wiper (on the driver's side) went out in a driving rain, but pretty minor problems compared to the (1 and only) American-made car we once had.

The main reason we probably won't buy a Volvo again is the dealer. We are just SO sick and tired of being to we HAVE to give them an 'Excellent' rating. We don't get loaners and our car has only been washed once when serviced (this apparently should be done according to a survey we received). Service takes ALL day if I allow them to talk me into going home, while they work on the car - then I have to get back to the dealer on my own.

We've also had a VERY annoying squeel from the fan when the heat is on that they haven't been able to fix. Try going through a Colorado winter not using the heater too much.

Basically we do like the car and the way it drives, but can't stand the dealer.

One of the salesmen in my office just bought the S60. He bought black and had the windows tinted and it looks cool. Being a real estate broker, these guys are on the road 24/7 and they are very tough on cars. So tough, that I suggested he get rid of his Jeep Grand Cherokee when he blew out the transmission after 18 months...plus he was putting $25 of gas in it/day.

Very sharp cars and this guy has owned Volvos in the past and went back to it because of its performance. Because of the amount of miles he puts on them he choose to lease it and then will buy it out after. Who would know the service/perfomance record on a used car better than the person that used it??

What happened to the interest in the Toyotas??? no Solara....no Highlander ????
