Anyone Not like Boma?

We are staying at AKL for the first time. I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing said about Boma, but looking at the menu I'm having a hard time getting excited about it. The breakfast looks good, but I'm not sure about dinner?

Thoughts?

we have only done breakfast and for the effort to get there, it was just not as WOW as we expected. :earboy2:

YUCKYUCKYUCK!!!!!!! Don't do it!!!

Seriously, there are a lot of people who do enjoy Bomas. We are not any of those people. Most everything is heavily spiced and the dishes are heavy on the bell peppers. We don't even like the desserts. Not our family, and none of our extended family either.

Good for people who like it. People who like it, really like it. We really don't. Like everything else, it is a matter of preference. Maybe you need to try it anyway.

We do, however, LOVE Mara!!!!! The Caesar is too die for. The pizza with the sausage is a little heavy on the sauce but always good. And the breakfast wraps are overstuffed! We would go to AKl just to eat at Mara. Make sure you get directions on how to get to it (go outside by the pool, no way in from the inside). One trip we missed it entirely!

ITA with GoofyDisney. We are not usually too picky about food, but we really disliked Boma. The food seemed to have strange flavors, maybe spices we are not used to, and the sauces seemed too sweet. There were lots of choices, but for the $$ it was just not worth it for us.

That being said, tons of people love it! I guess you won't know for sure unless you try it.

Thanks! I think we will pass on making PS there and check it out when we get there. We love Thai & Chinese food (lots of spices), but for the price the menu was not sitting well with me. Plus dh has an undiagnosed food allergy so we try to stay away from lots of spices we are unfamiliar with (we're pretty sure it's a spice of some sort). I have never heard a bad thing until now so I was thinking it must be better than it looked on the menu.

Mara is definitly one we will be visiting, much more up the kids alley!

I started a thread titled "Dinner at Boma...Pizza for Dessert" when we returned last week. I made reservations because we read a lot of positive posts and figured maybe we'd enjoy it even though the menu looked less than interesting. We didn't like it at all either. GoofyDisney, we're with you on the desserts too! Everyone raves about the zebra domes...they were okay, but we certainly wouldn't go out of our way to get them. We are still laughing about that dinner!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

We went to Boma for dinner on our recent trip. DH enjoyed it but I did not. I ended up filling up on foods from the kids pod. The desserts were great and I am glad we did it since we had heard so much about it, but I did not enjoy my meal and will not be going back.

Because of all the rave reviews, we have done both breakfast and dinner there. We didn't like either very much. The breakfast was just not the greatest, except for the delicious juice, and we had 4 people for dinner, no one is really a picker eater and no one really cared for the meal except everyone liked the desserts.

Another one we didn't like was Jiko. While the food was good, I was sicker than a dog after eater there. Ruined my whole evening. Of course, it could have been co-incidence, or something I already had, but we'll not eat there again.

Another one raved about that we don't like is Brown Derby while we're at it. Four people and no one cared for their meal.

Because of all the reviews I tried and it and I am forever greatful. We loved it. I know, I know - this is not what was asked, but I have to say I was blown away by this place. It just goes to show you, everyone has different taste.

I have a PS there in Oct and I am nervous about it. The menu does not appeal too much to me and we have a group of 9 and I can only think of 3 maybe 4 who would like it based on the menu - that isn't to say it won't be good though. It does get rave reviews so I wanted to try it but I am starting to think I may not. We have to get there from CSR and it will consume a better part of our night :confused3 and I think I will be upset if I waste a night and a point on this place if we don't like it.

I guess I am bumping in to see what others say

My DH is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Needless to say he wasn't all that impresseed with Boma. I liked a few of the dishes, enough to fill up without eating at the kids buffet and my DD of course had no problem with the standard kid fare. We gave it a try even though my DH wasn't too sure. Of course, I'm not a fan of Mara even though everyone seems to love it. We ended up ordering room service one night and was actually pleasantly surprised. So its all a personal preference. This one has no right or wrong answer. :flower:

My kids are thrilled with the boma menu. I showed them the menu last night and my 7 year old daughter loved the idea of coconut curry salmon!

We haven't been yet, so we are excited about our first time.

I've heard the soups are fantastic as well. I have to agree about Mara as well. That is a very good CS place. My kids enjoyed it there as well. Since they enjoyed Mara, we are trying Boma.

This was our experience too. I wasn't that overwhelmed when I *read* the menu. But I went there and tried just about everything and really fell in love with a few items. My parents, who travelled with us, LOVED it. My teens did not care for it. Anyway, we ate at Boma's early in the week and were and still are kicking ourselves for not booking a second dinner there. But, at that late notice, we could not get a reasonable PS.

After reading all the rave reviews we were very disappointed in Boma. I'm not crazy about buffets, I should have not expected too much. That said I think you should try it. I would have missed out on some good meals if I went by some of the reviews on this board. We all have different tastes, I take the reviews with a grain of salt and try myself.

Wow. I'm glad I read this thread. I haven't be thrilled with the idea of Boma's because I don't think the menu looks like much my family would enjoy, but after reading the reviews and seeing the ratings it seemed like something we must try. I also hate buffets aka spending my whole dinner serving my kids -- and this is our only true buffet (In my book Ohanas or Mit. Teppanyaki count as buffets). We were looking to cut a meal--this may be it.

BTW, what is a Zebra dome??? I know it is a dessert that is supposed to be great, but that is all I know.

We ate at Boma last month and didn't like it. we agree with others that said the food had too many spices - ones we didn't care for like curry. We had 5 adults and 2 small children. Everyone said they had mashed potatoes but they weren't there when we ate there. I don't get why everyone loves it, but I guess we just aren't into that type of food. The desserts were no heck either.

hi mlwear!
zebra domes are a mousse like dessert it has a white coating with chocolate stripes, hence the name. They were okay, but the way everyone talks about them, maybe I was just expecting too much from them.

Oh, Thank You, so much for explaining. From what I read they were only described as what one would think is the best dessert ever created.
I think my decision to cancel Boma has been made. :Pinkbounc Plenty of other choices. :goodvibes

My Boyfriend and myself absolutely Love Boma's....My parents absolutely hate Boma's. When my parents went with us, they ate strictly from the Children's pod. My mother liked just a few of the deserts. Thank Goodness I paid for that meal! :rotfl:

I didn't think I would like it when I first read the menu. My boyfriend told me to just try it. He has me in the mind set of "don't listen to others, just try a little bit, it's your own opinion that matters." But after my first try, this will be my 4th time eating there. This is the only resturant that my DBF and I eat everytime we go.

Chris

We were not thrilled about Boma's. We love all types of food, but we seriously could not get into it. It was okay. Would I go back. Probably not.
