I've been reading about it and it sounds rather intense. Of course, it's exciting and I can't wait to experience it BUT I believe I'm going to be a little nervous.

Anyone else?

Yes, a little nervous. But I was also nervous about RnR, even chickened out once, but ended up loving it. So I'll do Mission: Space, along with my 6yo boy, who knows no fear.

We don't know anything about height requirements yet, do we?

I'm not nervous about anything on the WDW property, except Summit Plummet....

I am very nervous about that slide. Has anyone done it who is frightened of heights?

I am a bit iffy on M:S myself. I get sickly feeling in Body Wars (but have never hurled) and that has kept me from trying Star Tours. (or what ever it's called)

I may give Bonine a try next trip and check out M:S because i think the overall experinece may be worth feeling crapy. (i will take a yack bag with me just in case:teeth: )

Matty I have done Summit Plummet - once in 97 and it was lots of fun. I don't particularly care for heights - I'm afraid to fall. It took me years to go on the slide in the regular pool at River County b/c of the drop into the pool. But at Summit Plummet my brother was with me and kept telling me it would be okay and made me go first so I couldn't chicken out once he went down. Plus I had waited in line forever and didn't want to be one of the people that had to push the wrong way back down the line. Once you are on it it's such a rush.

I was also wondering about M:S - I am hoping it is not like Body Wars or Star Tours. I will try anything once though. I am never afraid of anything in WDW (except for pukink from a ride which has not happened ) I did get close with the 2 rides I mentioned above though. I think your saafe as long as you dont try to get out of the ride while in motion - like others have and not lived to tell the tale. After seeing the travel channel's show about the parks and how the rides are tested and maintained every day - ther eis not need to worry - just have fun!

Lori -

Try Star Tours - IMO it is not like Body Wars. I go on all kinds of rides & coasters - before and after eating - and the ONLY ride ever that makes me want to hurl is Body Wars. I just don't understand it! I have tried it twice, thinking that maybe it just was too early in the morning when I tried it the first time, and no luck - not sure what it is about Body Wars. Any one else have the same experience?

I can't wait for M:S - just wish it would be ready for our trip in 12 days!

Body Wars ruins my whole day. It makes me so sick. Star Tours, no problem at all. So you're not the only one.

M/S doesn't sound like a "sick" ride to me, and I can't wait to try it. One piece of advice though, don't spend any time on the Rumors Board or the Debate Board. Too many people are bashing M/S over there already, and they haven't even tried it yet. If you want to go with an open mind and positive attitude, those posts might destroy your fun.

Nervous, NO... excited... YES!!!! I can't wait to ride it! Hope it opens on time!:)

Oh, no! Mission Space isn't going to be a simulator ride is it? I cannot tolerate these types of rides anymore!

Could it be an age thing? I used to be able to do any ride, then I turned 40 and suddenly started getting motion sickness.

I had been on Body Wars when it first opened and it didn't bother me. Then about 5 years ago I went on it and was queasy. The next day I did Star Tours and almost barfed.

Last visit to WDW I bypassed both those, but did go on TOT and RNR within minutes of each other...and was nauseous. However, I forced myself BACK on TOT a couple days later and was okay. Maybe it's nerves?

Or maybe not - I got nauseous on Primeval Whirl

I really, really want to try Star Tours and Body Wars again. I guess I will have to take Bonine or Dramamine and walk around in a daze (these meds really effect me...).

Matty_Disfan, heights don't typically scare me but Summit Plummit is quite daunting. My biggest complaint about this slide is that it is painful. You fall much faster than the water, causing the water to beat against your back. Ouch. Other than the pain, the slide is fun;)

I went on a Behind the Scenes tour awhile ago and the CM had heard rumors that there was going to be an area, when you got off of MS, to get sick. Now this was only a rumor but of course it has stayed with me ever since. I am a bit skittish (sp??) about some rides...just tried R&R last trip and after swearing I would never go on TOT again, I gave it a second try and actually almost enjoyed it. I trust that Disney rides won't be too terrifying and am hoping that MS is in the vein of R&R and TOT....lots a fun and just a little scary.

i haven't read all the rumors/news about Mission Space yet, but if the ride is really supposed to simulate the intense G-forces of a Space launch... then, yeah that makes me very nervous.

like all other thrill rides, i wouldn't ride them unless i was in perfect health...
plus there is the theory that intense G-forces can trigger severe health problems... even potentially life threatening ones.

so, until i get back in great shape or something, i'll probably be avoiding MS for the time being...

unfortunately, there are more than a handful of guests who ignore health warnings and ride thrill rides anyway... no wonder they get sick.

Mission: Space will obviously be a simulator, but not the same design as Body Wars or Star Tours.

It is based on a centrifuge design. The capsules are at the end of the "arms" of the centrifuge. As it rotates, you are pushed back in your seat, simulating the launch of a space craft. Through some sort of slowing of the rotation and tilting of the capsule (I think), the ride will also give the perception of weightlessness. Will you be able to float your sunglasses around the capsule? I doubt it.

With any ride that spins you around an axis, nausea is an obvious concern. Through careful syncronization of what you see and hear with the rotation, in theory, nausea can be decreased.

The capsules seem to have been designed to be cleaned easily, and I have heard of the area that you unload to as being clean-up friendly.

While there will likely be many health warnings for the ride, I doubt it will require us to be in "great shape".

More about Mission: Space can be read at the links below:

Some is speculation, some is less specific... But it helps get an idea of what it MOST LIKELY will be.

Well shakey knees when i get to the top... but its all downhill from there.

I dont even like step ladders...

I really didn't find Summit Plummet fun at all. I did it just to prove I wasn't yeller, but I must have missed the fun factor- a quick plunge down, a sore back, and a wedgie. I guess the fun part is wondering if you'll be the first person to break your neck doing it.

But, I had to do it, cause my motto is that if it passes muster with the Disney lawyers, I can handle it...

(on edit-- Look Ma! It's my 500th post on the Dis!!)
