Anyone knowledgable about sexual predators.......

The fact that someone uses adult porn does not, any any way, mean that he could not be a sexual predator towards children. I am not saying that this particular person is, just that many child molesters also like to look at adult porn. Many molest children, not necessarily because they prefer a child-like body, but because they are into sexual domination and control.

As mentioned before, the use of adult porn isn't an indicator of anything criminal or deviant, in and of itself. You cannot tell by everyday actions who is and who is not a sexual predator. They tend to keep that side of them very secretive. So, that part of your question cannot be answered here.

As to the pictures, totally inappropriate for any work situation (well, except maybe an adult magazine job, or something like that) but especially for an environment with children. But luv2nascar brings up a good point, maybe they are not intentionally on his computer? It's probably a long shot, though. Could you maybe play it off like you didn't know who's PC they were stored under and mention it to him like "You won't believe what I found"? Not sure if that would be too obvious, but maybe it would be better to just give him the heads up and then he can delete the pictures without this going further.

We had this happen at a place I used to work. We ratted on the guy because it is inappropriate for the workplace and he isn't getting paid to check out porn.

everyone seems quick to jump on the guy. Maybe he doesn't even know they are on his computer. Viruses can do bad things today. Our home computer became infected with a virus (we think due to neighbor using our wireless connection before we password protected it). We would delete these pictures and they kept coming back. Computer had to be completely redone to rid the porn pictures from our home.
I agree, the guy probably doesn't even know they are on his computer. Sounds like a virus or some sort of spyware. My biggest concern would be that the school district doesn't have adequate filters on their systems.

Things are downloaded just checking your e-mail so it may be innocent. I am not condoning anything, but I work in a garage and you see pictures hanging all over the place. It is kind of one of those things that I choose to turn away and ignore. I would let it go and if he gets caught that is on him. If you are close to him you can tell him what you found so he knows to try and delete it.

If it's child pornography then the best thing to do would be to tell someone imediately. Even if it's just adult porn, you need to at least talk to the man personally. Although it doesn't sound as if there's really anything to worry about since apparently it's not too graphic and you never indicated that the pictures were of children, I would still look into it. It's much better to be safe than sorry.

However, it doesn't sound like there's much to worry about. If this guy's never actually done anything to any kids, and if he's never shown any interest in them (I expect you would mention that in your first post if he did) then he's either not a pedofile or he's done a pretty good job of hiding it.

Agreed... but is it appropriate for people to surf the DIS at work? Should they be fired too?

because of the risk I would bet some of the boys at school did this. Even if he was going to look at that at work it's doubtful he'd save it in a folder. I work in a highschool. The boys often know teachers passwords or find ways to get online on teachers computers. And the teachers aren't in their classrooms every minute. I've been a substitute for a class and had trouble doing something a teacher requested on their computer. It's usually an issue of password. Before I had a chance some boy in the class usually comes up and logs into the pc. Yep it is stupid of the teacher to have let this happen. But like I said sometimes it had nothing to do with the teacher telling the password. He might have walked away from the desk for a second with it displayed. He might have been short a pc for a project and let a student use his. Etc. And believe me, the first chance the boys get they go to the porn sites. I've had to deal with it several times.

Let it go. It isn't your job to be an internet cop. Like someone said, this is a HR nightmare.

I'm currently not employed so I don't DIS at work.

Furthermore, this guy shared an office that was used by different people each shift, so it technically wasn't HIS office alone. I worked with him one time, knowing he did this, and he would go into this office and LOCK THE DOOR. Uh hello? Any clue as to what he was doing in there?! I'd say that was a little inapropriate. I'm sorry, but if you want to bring in da noise, bring in da funk on yourself, do it somewhere other than work.

A far different situation than someone on their lunch break catching a few threads on the DIS.

I know... thats why I said I agree with you.

But my point about the DIS was in reference to the statement that he wasn't getting paid to look at porn so he should be fired. As far as I know, none of us are getting paid to look at the DIS at work either. Unless you work for Disney or a travel agent maybe.

I never said my coworker should get fired. We ratted him out so they would put a stop to it.

Watching adult porn does not a child sexual predator make. That's just a ridiculous assumption.

You can find pics of women in skimpy clothing in a lot of widely read magazines -- of course, probably not at odd angles. And no, I'm not referring to Playboy, Penthouse and the like.

I'd say it's inappropriate for him to be having that stuff on a work computer, but I'd also say that it's inappropriate to have ANY personal pics (i.e., those of your kids) on a work computer. If you want to be strict and say work is for work, then NO personal stuff should be on that computer.

Heck, we had a client that is a beauty pagent type. I wanted to see what she looked like, so I googled her name. It was kind of surprising the results that were returned. Should I be fired for that?
