Anyone know what to do about a rabbit hole?

If there's no babies in it, just fill it back in with dirt. We had a nest smack dab in the middle of our front lawn that our dog sniffed out. It was carefully camouflaged with grass the mother had gathered, so I never would've known it was there otherwise. There were still babies in it, but they grow SO FAST (they were gone in about a week) don't worry, they'll be gone in not time. We filled the hole back in, sprinkled some grass seed over it and it was like the hole and babies were never there. They were darling little critters, so the nest didn't bother me at all. Even our landscapers were enamored with them and made sure to work around the nest! We were all sad the day they were gone.

They do grow fast but not quite that quickly. Mom rabbit has more than one nest and moves the babies every few days to keep predators off her trail, so your bunnies probably just moved homes.

OP, if there are babies they'll be gone quickly.

We had a bunny nest in the middle of our backyard last year - maybe about 8 inches diameter or so. The mom bunny covered it really good with hair and grass and we don't have a dog, so it was absolutely amazing to go out every day and see the tiny little bunnies grow. They do grow fast, but our bunnies (when we first noticed them, they were about 3 inches long and TINY) stuck around in the rabbit hole for a good month. DD was in love with them and would go out and sit next to the hole and just watch them. She was so sad the morning she went out and they were gone! DS15's bedroom window faces the backyard, so in the early morning and evenings, we would see the mother rabbit coming over, and would occassionally see her hopping around the perimeter of the yard. Once the bunnies got big enough and left the nest, we would see more than one at a time (so we are pretty sure it was the ones from the nest) hopping around the yard at dusk. Then they were gone :( and we never saw them again. We have a lot of coyotes and even a fox or two in our area, so I'm sure the odds of becoming dinner were pretty good.

I would LOVE to have bunnies again this year - it was the hit of DD's 11th summer, and she says she will never forget it!

A rat, on the other hand.....(shudder) Ohhh boy! :scared1:

We have rabbit nests all the time. I check for babies just to know whether to keep an eye on it or not and once they're gone, I don't do anything else. We had a very rainy spring once and the water would run downhill and fill up the nest. I had to get the babies out and dry them off, dry out the nest, and do something to stop the water. It worked and they were just fine. So, now I keep,an eye on all nests.

Here are my baby bunnies. They were all dry again and hung out in the box while I got their nest dried out and fluffed up for them.
