Hi there,
I intend to soon join an online college but was wondering if there are any disadvantages to distance learning classes I should be aware of before I join.
Thanks a lot!!

Hello friends,
I am going to join distance learning course but before joining I want to know the disadvantages of it. So I can well be prepared for it and find out some solutions to solve future problems. If you people have any idea, please help me in this matter.
Thanks a lot!!

Are talking online class....if so then I can answer

I have been taking online classes for about 4 semesters now...#1 thing is get familiar with the site it can be very confusing and you dont want to spend all your time looking for stuff. #2 Online classes have very strict time schedules so stay on track and keep up with the work. #3 in depth classes are hard to grasp when you are trying to teach yourself, sometimes its better to hear somebody telling you something than trying to figure it out yourself but you usually have class forums where you can ask questions and the class and instructor will answer....other than that i love the Online classes because I can do it when I want...not M/W 9:15 to 10:30....any more questions just ask

I agree with everything she said above. It's nice to have your own schedule to work on rather then a colleges. I feel that the college experience is less and less a necessity to place a functioning job. I feel that the college experience can sometimes be a negative part of the whole college career. I've been taking online classes for 2 years and am going for my BA and MBA online through Devry University. It's a lot cheaper, same quality education and my lectures will be part on pod cast, part discussion boards, part me reading.

You really have to be self motivated to get stuff in on time, but other then that it's a great thing to consider doing because you can work and school at the same time. I found it hard doing the traditional schooling and working.

I will finish my BA in July through an online college which also has a land based home campus and several sattelite campuses.

Academically, I enjoyed the experience well enough, I suppose. For me, it was no harder than traditional classes. I liked that you have to teach yourself. I took an overload every semester while working full time, and I had enough quantity of work to do that I was not bored.

Administratively, working with this school has been nothing less than a nightmare. They held my credits for months for no apparent reason (they said they never recieved a transcript, but had perviously told me they had recieved it, didn't want to give credit for classes I had tested out of because they didn't want to do 24 hours worth but there were no rules against it, etc, etc, etc.) They are slow and disorganized. There are no scholarships for online students even though my scores etc qualified me for a full ride if I went to day school (life circumstances prevented this course). I will graduate Summa Cum Laude, but the ceremony was held a week ago. I did not participate because they wouldn't let me walk where I belonged in my class for various reasons having to do with being an online student. There were also hidden rules RE number of hours and other things.

I would still do it again, in fact I will. In Sept I will be starting an online doctorate program (too expensive to do the land based ones I was accepted to). Just read the fine print. :)

Hi.
Yes there are some disadvantages of distance learning which can hinder your studying online. There is the issue of the technology used like the computers can prove expensive. Internet connection might not be available to everyone. Also some people are not comfortable using computers and the software for distance learning might be complicated to understand. Also you don’t get immediate feedback from your teacher and you don’t get much opportunity to work on oral communication skills and many more. For more information you can visit my signature.

All the Best!!!
