I'm still using the 205 I bought over 4 years ago. I've kinda been hoping it would quit so I could justify to myself getting a newer model. But it still works great and I have certainly gotten my money's worth from it.
Looking for a bit more feedback on the Garmin 305!
What's it like in RDF?
(that's Rain Drizzle Fog......what seems to be the most common weather conditions here)
What's it like in the dark? Can you set the backlight to be on constantly or is it one of these that only are lit whilst button is pressed?
(because 1/2 the year my runs will be in the evening darkness)
Kinda wish they offered a daintier ladies' version!
The default backlight time on is 15 seconds. You can adjust the time the backlight stays on up to "Stays on" to keep it continuously lit. Battery life will be impacted of course.
To adjust backlight time settings go to:
Settings-->general-->display-->backlight timeout-->stays on (or whatever time you want from 15 seconds up to 2 minutes)
I have had a 301, and two 305's. My second 305 shows signs of eminent failure --- looks like the case is splitting. I have a 610 on the way. I am hoping that the touch screen works better than the bezel system on the 400 series. Will report in a couple weeks.
According to my package tracking I will get to make my Wednesday run with my 610. One thing that sold me was a video of the touch screen working with gloves on. Not that is too much an issue in Houston but I do make a few northern runs each year.
As much as I travel I am looking forward to the better reception that the 610 seems to have from initial reviewers. The 205/305 was light years faster than the 201/301 which was sooo much better then the 101. I have a few running buddies with 405s and the new generation reception in that unit makes mine look sick, especially when looking to start a run in a mi town hotel area.
Good thing as my 305 has just about come apart. Once the 610 is in the 305 will head to Olathe for repair.
I replaced my 205 and got the 610 without the hrm as that is not something I need.
The touch screen takes a little getting used to, but the vibration alerts rather than chirps is AMAZING! I am Galloway method girl and have had a tough time with chirps in large races. The vibrations are easy to feel on my wrist and as odd as it may sound, they make my runs more relaxing.
I do almost all of my runs on trails in a local park and do not run with music, so the vibrations rather than the chirps are great for me. Nice and quiet in my peaceful park.
My 21 year old niece does run with music and she borrowed the 610 for a race on the 4th. She also raved about the vibration feature - works wonderfully with her tunes. She is now in love and has the 610 on the top of her Christmas list.
The 610 is absolutely worth packing pb and js for my lunches this month!
The strap on the unit out of the box will go small. It is so small that they include a larger strap. If you purchase it and you feel it is too large... Look up they offer a velcro latched replacement option.

MissFitt:
It is a big thing, but after wearing it a few times, you'll barely notice it!
I have relatively small wrists, although I'm not a small person, and I fasten the strap on the 3rd last hole.
I'm going to look into a velcro strap as Cewait mentioned as well.
