Anyone have a "BackYard Carnival" when they were little?

We grew up near Pittsburgh and watched "Paul Shannon's Adventure" every day (the best show ever!) and every summer he would urge kids to have backyard carnivals for muscular dystrophy.

We had one and it was a blast! We made carnival games and sold candy, popcorn and kool-aid -- invited all our friends -- made about 37 dollars -- :thumbsup2 for MD (games were like 5 cents or something). It was so cool!

I grew up outside of Johnstown (got the Pittsburgh channels) and we did this too! I think we only made about $20, but remember it being a lot of fun.

Yup! We did it in Brooklyn too! Can't remember how much $ we made!

I grew up in Wheeling, Wv... We watched Paul Shannon almost every day... We also had a few backyard carnivals.... :thumbsup2

We didn't have one for MD but I had one for my son's Jojo's circus party last year. It was a ton of fun. We made games and had a dunk tank in the pool. It was definitely a hit!

I should add I don't know who Paul Shannon is...that may have been before my time.

My twin sister and I had carnival birthday parties, had 3 of them I think. Everyone would get a certain amount of tickets to play carnival games and won tickets. Then you could exchange your tickets for cool prizes. We had a cotton candy machine and popcorn machine. We had a fortune teller (my mom dressed up at sat in the shed that was decorated) and pony rides. Ahh, the memories.

We had two MD carnivals (I don't recall Paul Shannon, though.) They were a blast! My neighborhood had a ton of kids, living on a cul-de-sac, and we'd just shut down the street and set up booths (never did get official permission, but it was a small road and all the neighbors were involved so it was never a problem.) We even put little articles in the local paper inviting people to come, and we made some decent money! The second year my neighbors got to go to the local station during the telethon and present our check.
