Anyone file their taxes yet?

well this stinks. I did my grandmother's taxes on Turbo on Saturday first and then I did mine right after. Her's says Accepted and mine says Pending :sad2: I don't know why an hour makes a difference.

Kgle- I also read about it but it says nothing about them sending out checks for it that you would have to do an amendment but I think the feb thing that everyone else is talking about is different because they stated that whatever it is would be retroactive for 08 so that must be something different? I'm thinking about calling a tax preparer and asking????... I'll let you know what I find out:)

My company is notoriously slow in getting W2s out to us...they're usually available online Jan 30. Got DH's W2 - still waiting on my W2, DH's unemployment statement, 1099 from church income, and I think I'm getting something from the state regarding my education expenses...I'd have to look that one up again...

I've had my W-2 for over a week now, but I don't expect I'll have DH's until the very last possible day; they're like that. Not to mention I still have to wait for the 1099's... nothing's come in yet =/

No rush here, I've been told the same from a good friend and accountant. So, I'll be waiting till end of Feb to file.

My best friend is also an accountant, and does my taxes every year.
This year she said we are waiting until after Feb 15 because of some type of tax cut being debated in Congress with Prez-elect Obama that would be retroactive for last year.
I don't know if that is still on the table, but I am in no hurry at this point. I would love to have it, obviously, because we always get a rather large refund, but I can wait.
And please don't tell me we are having too much withheld - I will give you my husband's cell number and you can try to convince him.
(This is how we get to Disney every spring, so I have stopped complaining!)

I have a friend who is a tax accountant and she also suggested waiting, because of laws that could be changing and credits that could be added.

I am waiting, I was so disappointed the first time I did them, I want to give it a little time and redo them. Made too much to write off student loan interest or most of the other stuff I usually write off. I was hoping to get at least a little of the more than 25k I paid out back. After taxes I will still make the same as before I finished school except now I get to pay off those student loans. I can't take many more "tax breaks"

I don't usually hurry at all since I adjust my withholdings to make sure that I don't get a big refund. I don't believe in letting the government have my money interest free for a year. And I usually don't owe very much either. Last few years its been $100 or $200 bucks either way.

But this year I have to do the FAFSA and the CSS Profile for college financial aid so I am planning to spend some time this Saturday doing the taxes. I can't submit them until I get one of DH's 1099R's since one of his pensions does withhold. But everything else I pretty much know from the year end statements.

You can file FAFSA using last year's return as a guide. Then when you have a final version of this year's taxes, you can go back and amend your FAFSA with the updated data. We did this last year without any problems and will do it this year as well.

Can you do a tax amendment on your own or is it rather difficult? I file our taxes using taxact.com every year but I've never done an amendment....

I called 2 tax preparers today and was told that they believe IF this Obama thing is passed that it will be in check form as a lot of people are filing earlier this year since they need money more then ever and since that would be a TON of amendments coming through that it would be easier and smarter to just send the refund out according to your 08 tax info that you submitted. Especaially since this isn't really what an amendment is for it just to correct something that may have been forgotten or something like that not a new tax cut going into affect.. So I don't know what to do!!! I don't want to wait to find out the above is true since we are using this money to pay Disney trip off and twins 1st birthday party(we have big families there will be 125 people). So... Help what should I do:confused3

An amendment is real easy to do. I use Turbo Tax and for the first time, I had to do an amendment last year...was nothing to it.

I thought that instead of checks, they are going to just adjust FICA taxes so each family would get an extra $80 or whatever each month...

We are still waiting on our forms, but to tell the truth I am in nooooo hurry! We won a car this year and I am anticipating owing Uncle Sam $$$ this year :guilty:

I filed mine on the 16th and should have my refund by the 30th. *crosses fingers*

I'll be heading right to the travel agent to set up our WDW trip and pay my half. Then I just have to wait until September to actually go.
