Anyone file their taxes yet?

We finally received all of our documents and here's where we ended up (we try to break even and we came pretty close):

Federal - need to pay $27
State - getting a $290 refund

UGH.......

There was a PDF showing dates that if you submitted it by x you will receive by x.

I submitted it on 1/17 accepted on the 18th. Today went to IRS site and said they were processing and I would have my refund by the 2/3. I thought we were to get by 1/30 if accepted by the 22nd?????

I so need that money right now.....Anyone have any ideas?

I believe it just says that to cover their "butts" and also the banks. Even though the IRS releases your funds some banks it could take a few days for it be available in your account.
What will happen as it closer to next Friday 1/30 the information will be updated.
I wouldn't be too concerned.

Mine says the same thing and also the same as last year and it was deposited on that Friday.

i sure hope so!!!! Once I get that refund $'s will be fine in the house. Had to get a new car this month, so its been beyond tight and rent is due on the 1st! As soon as they deposit my bank will be fine, not concerned with that part......

I am so mad because I missed the first wave of deposits because I transposed a number in my daughters social, Now I am waiting for it to be accepted.....again!

Yep, I've been trying since the 16th to file with HR Block. I FAQed them the other day to see when we would be able to file and it said the problem woudl be fixed around the 24th (tomorrow), but for the heck of it, I tried again this a.m. and I filed by 9am. You have to go through and check for errors again, but you should be fine!

Now I'm just waiting for the IRS to accept the return and give me back my money.

Yes I filed my taxes, but I had all my documents by 1/10/09...that being said I control when our company issues W-2's and tax documents and I try to be popular and get our stuff out before everyone else does. I used to work in a CPA office and specialized in personal income taxes...so I know a little bit about how the IRS works on their payment schedule. So here ya go.

1) IRS cuts checks on Fridays
2) So, your check will be cut on the follwing weeks Friday...unless filed on Thursday evening or Friday-which you have to wait 14-15 days.
3) IRS direct dp into bank account takes generally 1-2 weeks shorter than paper checks. Paper checks have to be handled, sorted, and mailed which causes the delay.
4) Most banks hold IRS Deposits for 1-2 business days BEFORE releasing them. Just know that FRIDAY is the day the money is released and usually by the following Monday or Tuesday you will see it in your account.

It says that every year. I always have my money in the bank on Friday morning..

Ok I need some educated input here. I posted earlier about having to pay in to taxes this year due to an Annuity that DH got after the death of his grandfather. I have anxiously been waiting for the forms to come so I can find out how much we need to fork over. Today a form comes a 1099 INT listing the amount of interest as what is taxable it says :
Details for Settlement Certificate

ACOUNT ######
Interest income $XXX.XX
Federal Tax Withheld $00.00

Is it possible that this is all that there is we need to file? I was thinking we were going to be taxed on the entire amount not just the interest... Anyone know how these things work?

The Annuity question:

I would pay the $100 and see a CPA to go through the details and have a peace of mind. Hard to say w/o all your information and circumstance of the death, estate, etc.

Paying taxes on interest earned makes since, especially if contributions made to the annuity are not pre-tax. In other words, if Granddad got paid then took money after he got paid and made annuity contributions....then the principle amnt has already been taxed...Granddad paid them. Unlike a
401k that is pre-tax contribution. Bottom line, IRS will get paid somewhere and determining when determines much. It sounds as if interest only is right.

Also, like him or hate him - Bush did ALOT to lower all the death taxes, so don't be shocked. Unless someone's estate is 1.5 million or more, most good CPA's can find you legal ways to keep the taxes minimal.

BTW, sorry for you husband's loss.

My brokerage firm won't have my account activities completed until 3 February 2009. I'm using TurboTax.

I filed my taxes on January 16 and according to the IRS pay schedule, direct deposit should be done on January 30. I am finally able to do the Where's My Refund this morning and it says by February 3. Do you think that means the deposit date into my bank or that I shouldn't call before February 3? Do you think I'll see it this weekend or not until next week?

You will most likely see it Friday. They just give that date in case your bank holds the electronic transfer. If you search for past years, most people get them on the Friday it says in the schedule the IRS website lists.

Random tax question here.....

If you pay for your own medical insurance...meaning, it is NOT thru your employer but purchased privately by your family.....can you deduct the monthly premium off your taxes? I know only the amount over 7.5% of your income would count.

Off to check the IRS website.
