My father is interested in bringing his dog to WDW and was wondering about the kennels? I know the hours of operation are from 7:30 am to 10 pm ....anybody ever have a problem getting security to let them in earlier or later?? They said this is what you can do when I called about the kennel.

Any feedback about your experiences would be appreciated.

At the WDW kennels, you must feed and walk your dog. There isn't anyone that does it for you.

I wish they offered better options, but now they don't, unless you look offsite for boarding places.

After this trip of ours 3 weeks ago, we came home to find our Jack Russell Terrier having lost 3 of 18 pounds, having no voice (bark), and having a stomache virus. And she boarded by our vet!! It took her 2 full weeks to get back to her usual self!:(

We have taken our dogs for several years now and never have any problem. They will feed your pets, but you must walk them. We always put them at the Ticket/Transportation kennel as we are always passing thru this area and it only takes a few minutes to walk them. You must have all shots with a record. The disney site list what shots. They have great Cm's working there.

Would you suggest we board at the kennel closest to our resort (POFQ) or have you all ever moved your pet to which ever kennel was by the park you were visiting that day??

We were thinking about Ft. Wilderness kennel since it seemed the closest to the resort.

I am a bit concerned with being able to get in to walk her after 10 pm each night...we would be staying for the fireworks at MK on 2 nights. Ever try getting security to let you in as per my discussion with the kennel?

Hi,
I timely thread for sure. I am considering bringing our dog with us in January 2003.
We will not have a rental car but using a towncar for the trip back and forth to the airport.
HOw does one transport their dog to the WDW kennel if you are not using a rental car? Are you allowed to use WDW tranasportation if they are crated?
Thanks,

I boarded my 2 dogs and 1 cat a couple of years back and would never do it again!
It has nothing to do with Disney or the super people who work there....it just seems that all I did was clockwatch and commute back and forth to feed and walk etc......it was exhausting!
The kennels are rather small for the dogs and it broke my heart each time I left them. One dog had a touch of arthritis and had a tough time moving each time I went to walk him.In the end, because we were living in Sarasota at the time, my husband left early and took the pets back home. In my opinion, they are better boarded at a kennel at home where they have freedom to move around and go in/out of outside/inside runs You'll have a better vacation too!:D

I would suggest leaving your pet in their own home while you are away if possible. I always hire a petsitter to care for my animals in my home. They are in their own enviorment with their own bed, bowls, etc...I boarded some pets once and would never do it again. Fortunately I have a terrific petsitter. She also collects the mail and makes the house look lived in. I can't imagine trying to have a vacation travelling back and forth to a kennel for walks all day long.

I have to agree with boarding at a kennel near home. We used the Disney kennel and it was a huge pain. It's awful to realize it's time to walk the dog when you're way at the back of MK or Epcot. And the cages are small...our puppy was terribly traumatized by the confinement and we'd never do it again. That said, if it's the only choice you have, the CM's really were very nice.
