Anyone ever took a one day vacation?

I'm just curious if anyone ever found a good deal (super cheap airfare) and flew somewhere for a 1 day vacation. Maybe flew out that morning and returned late that night. Or took a long weekend, flew out Friday morning and returned Saturday night for example.

Was it worth the trip?

I've done LAs Vegas that way (driving and flying the same day).

I am also doing San Francisco by flying out on a Saturday at 6 am and flying back at 10 pm Sunday.

I really enjoy them and I feel like a jet-setter. Monday morning, people ask what they did. One mom watched her kid play ball, another may have had a BBQ, but me, well, I went to San Diego, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, SF, or ...?

I do it to Las Vegas frequently since it's only an hour flight. I work half day, leave on noon flight, go to dinner and a show, spend the night, return the next day (late morning) and go to work in the afternoon.

One of my roommates in college worked for an airline and she would do that by flying standby.

We have friends that did that for WDW. They found a southwest ding fare for $25 each way, rented points from a dvc member for SSR. They flew out early am and went straight to the MK for the day. The next day they stayed at the pool all day and flew home late that evening. They had a blast.

My aunt got a free flight from airtran because of lost luggage. So I flew out for a long weekend. I probably should've stayed a bit longer, but the ticket needed to get used.

I would fly to texas more often if I had enough money to do it. Out of Miami to Dallas, she bought a one way ticket for 55$ for my mom.
We used to make tons of one day trips to Disney for the heck of it when we lived in Miami, of course that stopped when gas skyrocketed.

At the end of May, 2002, my wife and I made an "emergency" trip to WDW from Virginia. We left after work on Thursday and returned home Sunday. Of course both of our bosses commented on the trip, especially as we asked with less than two weeks to go.

(It was for the opening of Journey into Imagination With Figment; we were both very active in getting the prior incarnation exorcized.)

My husband and I did that once about 17 years ago. It was great! We flew out of Atlanta to NYC 6:00 a.m. Saturday, stayed at the Waldorf Astoria, saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, flew back Sunday afternoon. Would love to do it again but I was pregnant on that trip with our first who's now 16, so maybe one day in the future.

We've driven places for a long day trip. We usually go to Boston a couple times a year. It's about a 4.5 hour drive. We leave early, go to the Museum of Science or Imax, walk around the city, and drive home late that night. We're north of nowhere, here, so it's a long drive just to an airport!

We flew to Las Vegas once for a long weekend, Friday - Monday. That's the shortest real trip we've done. We go for day trips here in Michigan, but none of them require flying. The Mackinaw Bridge is about a 3-hour drive so we've gone up to Mackinaw City for a day occasionally, or even cross the bridge into St. Ignace, or go an hour further north to the Soo and watch the freighters go through the locks.

I did that for my first time driving to WDW. I left that Thursday and came Sunday night. It was a great trip.

We have talk about doing it a again next summer like that.

I have been on a lot trips that left Friday and came Sunday night.

I am the queen of weekends trips.

My last trip to Disney I took off one day from work: Friday. Left Friday morning on a 7am flight and got back Sunday night. Totally worth it!

I've also driven out to a friend's place after work on Friday, getting in late, then left after lunch on Sunday.

Oh, and last year I bought tickets to a Buffett concert in Chicago. Left Friday night, got back Sunday. That was awesome.

Sometimes you just need to get away. I'm with crazelion...I'm the queen of weekend trips!

I have a friend who works for an airline. We left our home airport at 5:30 am on Monday and arrived in NYC at about 11:00 am . We were scheduled to leave late the next afternoon on Tuesday, but because of weather delays we had to leave early Wednesday morning. At least Monday night was spent in a complimentary suite at the Waldorf...

When we lived in Germany, we did alot of day trips with the base tour office. Bus would pick you up 1 or 2am, you'd sleep on the bus and wake up in Paris. Spend all day into the evening. Hop back on the bus and sleep on the way back, arrive home in the early morning. It was nuts, but fun to say you went to Paris, Munich, etc for the day.

I went to New Orleans that way once.

I was already in San Antonio, and had a SW voucher to get back to Seattle (back before they put restrictions on voucher use). Instead of doing that, i bought a cheapie ticket from SA to NO that got in very early in the morning, then used the voucher to get catch the last flight back to Seattle. It was pretty wonderful.

I do several day trips driving often. And also weekend trips. But, flying is too long and stressful to do for a day trip. In order to leave from one of the major airports in NYC, I have to arrive an hour & a half before the flight. Just getting to one of the airports takes 45 min to an hour one way. I'd lose too much of the day that way. I have done weekend trips by plane though.

We've never flown anywhere for a day long vacation but we have done driving trips - lots of times - usually in the middle of winter when we've been cooped up at home for weeks on end - we'll drive up to 5 hours check in to the hotel, check out the next morning. Usually no where exciting like Cape Cod National Seashore in the middle of winter cause it's cheap tho we always stay somewhere with a pool to make it fun. Last year in the middle of February we booked a night at the Hampton Inn in North Conway, NH - the room was $350. But they had an indoor water park. The expression on the kids' faces when they saw those slides - Totally worth it.

We did! When my best friend turned 21 America West had a $19 each way fare to Las Vegas. DH and I took her and her DH for a really fun day. We flew up early, rented a car, visited 3 of our favorite casinos, had a great dinner and got home about midnight, totally exhausted. Wish they still had those!

We also did one to San Diego when we were wedding dress shopping. We got married in Dec, she got married in March. We flew to San Diego in the morning, hit 3 dress outlet places, had a great lunch, bought bridesmaids dresses, her wedding dress and flew home in time for a late dinner.

Did an overnight trip from Northeast NJ to Williamsburg, VA one time. Driving. We actually drove for more hours than we were there. DH did all the driving and it was to meet MY Dis friends. He was such a good sport about it.

My son and I took a trip to Disneyland for the day for his birthday (flying from San Jose to Orange County)

He loved it and we have priceless memories of the day
