Anyone else tired of all the whining and complaining?

Seems like lately this message board has been post after post with folks complaining about either DVC or WDW. If it's not free dining, it's not being able to get a reservation at 2 weeks (of course blaming all the SSR owners). If not poor housekeeping, it's poor bus service. It seems to go on and on. Frankly I'm really tired of it.

We have been DVC members six years now and I'm ever bit as happy with my DVC purchase as I was six years ago. We've had no room issues to speak of. Bus service has been fine with us. I know to make my reservations way ahead of time and when I try to make a reservation short term, I know if I don't get it, it's my fault. We don't eat a lot of TS meals and never do the dining plan because it's way too much food for us. Why pig out when on vacation when we don't do it at home? Anyway, I'm just wondering - is anyone else still happy? From posts on here, you'd never know it.

We are very happy with our purchase and with WDW. However, if you can't complain here to your friends and to people who will understand, then where can you?

Just look at the thread titles and don't read any that seem to be complaining. There are MANY threads that are totally positive.

We are still very much in love with DVC and WDW after our purchase 9 years ago. Everytime we go to a DVC property we are so excited to be there that my expectations are probably higher than they should be because sometimes I am disapointed with some small thing. But then I look around me at the other people having a great time and I remember where I am; on vacation at a great resort. We are not great planners so I know if I don't get the reservation I want it is clearly my fault. If my room isn't very clean, I call housekeeping and ask if they can fit it into their schedule to fix it. I find being nice gets you great results. It is good to be able to vent about bad experiences but it doesn't change how much I still love Disney.

Isn't there something ironic about complaining about complaining?

:thumbsup2 Can't say it any better myself.

I agree with you. I am a bit of a fan of these boards and check them daily. There is a lot of negativity going on. It is kind of depressing. I do have to admit that on my last trip in Feb/March, I did notice that some of the Disney magic was lacking with some of the cast members. But there were still so many wonderful experiences on that trip that they overpowered any negativity.
I was just reading another post where people were getting a bit upset over DVC and the concern with not being able to get reservations. Some of the people were upset over the 11/7 month booking window. Maybe I am out there, but this was covered before signing the contract. I do understand that if someone has their heart set on staying at a different resort other than their home and it is booked, well...that would be disappointing. But....that is going to happen especially during the busy seasons.
I bought into BLT and honestly preferred the decor of AKL sooooooooo much more. Realistically though I think getting rooms at AKL will be easier than BLT. I know that the location is prime and that is what sold me. I love the easy access of the monorail. My boys love the Poly, but it is too expensive to stay there in my mind. So we can hop over there and enjoy the grounds and restaurants easily while staying at BLT. I really like the easy access to MK, also. These were the deciding factors. I would like to try and stay at every DVC resort at some point, but am probably one of the few people who doesn't get the thrill of the BWV or BCV. Maybe on an adult trip with no kids so lots of eating at EPCOT restaurants (my kids are not into dining while there....crazy!). We are even excited to try OKW. We will stay there on our next trip when we try to do things outside WDW and check out ORlando with a rental car.
I am taking my sons to WDW in a couple of weeks and we are very excited for our first stay on developer points at SSR. The resort is very big, but we are still really excited. We are going to enjoy the resort and the pools and activities. Usually we are going to the parks so much that we dont' slow down and enjoy these things. With the heat, this is the perfect trip to take advantage.
I know we pay for DVC so as the customer we deserve quality and service, but some of the complaints are a bit interesting. I guess I have somewhat of a different perspective on things and life. Having been in the military for 17 years and witnessing people sacrifice their lives for the very freedom we have, I am so grateful for all of the blessing in my life.
Don't get me wrong....I still expect good customer service, but I also am a respectful and kind customer. I treat the cast members kindly which I find is not the case with others. I see cast members being yelled at and treated very poorly unnecessarily and this is unacceptable.
It just seems as a society, we are becoming so negative and "entitled" to everything. I wish more people would adopt the 'glass is half full' mentality and treat each other more with respect and stop complaining all of the time about everything.

Be a part of the solution, not the problem!

We love it too!!!!!!! Never a problem that couldn't be solved, everyone always seems to go out of their way for us. Just made our 11mo at akv 2 bed concierge and studio concierge for my brother in law and family with no problem. Any other resv, if it wasn't available at the time we had a back up that usually worked. Dining plan is great for us and never over crowded when we go, because we try to plan around it. Love everything about it still and sure always will.

LOL :rotfl2:

WolfpackFan...I think it's like it has always been on these boards. There are many more positive threads but they tend to disappear quickly. The negative ones go on and on with people jumping in to either agree with how bad things have gotten or others jumping in who "defend" DVC, WDW or other aspects of DVC ownership.

So the impression is that there are many more negative threads than there really probably are. Throw in a bad economy that has so many people in a rough place and it's no wonder that the tones can get more critical.

I don't think it's too bad. Some people have issues that they want to air out, and they make it interesting here.

I could still get riled up about the no banking rule in the last 4 months. If anyone wanted to start a campaign to allow some late in the UY banking, I'm ready for a "Fight!"

I also wouldn't mind seeing some sections of SSR being "Guaranteed booking" like the treehouses are. Every so often some come here to rally around that, I've sent MS notes/letters about that, but nothing is happening.

DVC could be better than it is, there is always room for improvement and improvement could be member driven, nothing wrong with that. I have never had a bad room upon entering the villa, so I hesitate to get too worked up about that. This is an anonymous board, and there could be stories told for personal reasons, vendettas, whatever. People have different expectations and I've dealt with people who I felt were unreasonable, and I've been labeled as such myself.

Anyway, I enjoy my time on the Dis and I enjoy my DVC.

Bobbi:goodvibes

I'm very happy with DVC. Nothing will be perfect and some visits are better than others.

I see lots of DVC members unhappy that they can't get free dining.

We CAN get free dining. We just can't book with points and get free dining. If you want free dining, book yourself a package - save the points, bank them, use them for a cruise or Disneyland or a trade, or book a larger room if you go during a time free dining isn't offered.

If you really want, you can sell your points and book only free dining trips - until Disney stops offering free dining (which they might well do sometime over the next 40 years)

Complaints about housekeeping and buses are not just confined to DVC - they're all over property.

Oh my gosh, probably the best post of all time. :thumbsup2

I was thinking the same thing, I don't think anyone forces anyone to read any of the threads, selection is left up to each person.

WOW!!! I see what you mean.

I haven't really been checking posts lately, just signing on to see if I have any PM's. I was just looking through threads and I have found 3 complaining posts already.

OP--some people are just not happy unless they are complaining. :confused3

I run a POP fridge swap that has been running for a year and a half and I actually found a thread that someone was complaing because they couldn't get a FREE Fridge, all of the slots had been taking for Free Dining. I mean come on!!! If a fridge is the important to you, pay for it.

I know I can just skip the posts and I do most of the time. I think it just got to me when I saw two threads right next to each other and both began "Anyone else ..." - one complaining about free dining and the other about SSR owners taking up all the reservations. Plus we've had several folks threatening to sell their memberships lately and going on in long posts explaining why (as if we care). Anyway, vent over. If folks want to complain - complain. I just won't read the threads. Life is just too short to sweat this kind of stuff. In the meantime I'm happily planning our next trip which takes place in 2 weeks and looking forward to a great time.

We are still happy with DVC after 8 years but you know how it goes--God is great, beer is good and people are crazy:lmao:

I'm happier than ever. I was sitting on my balcony at AKV 2 weeks ago, looking at the animals and said "who would ever thought we would have a DVC with animals?". When I bought it was just OKW and BWV.

Isn't this thread against the rules in some fashion? You are using inflammatory language and I don't even see how this has anything to do with the dvc but a personal attack on members posting here.

While I am completely happy with my DVC, we cannot and should not accept the fact that Disney/DVC have been cutting corners in their service. I also think members should bring it to their attention.

As far as complaining on the boards...sometimes it is nice to know if you are the only one experiencing problems at Disney, are they isolated incidents or if the majority of members enjoy their vacations.

I wouldn't call it complaining, but I may call it "comparing notes.":)
