Weight has zero to do with Type 1 diabetes. ZERO.

They are two different diseases with different causes and different treatments.
Weight does not necessarily have anything to do with type II Diabetes. It is a hormone disorder caused by hormonal imbalances. I have a hormone disorder, PCOS, and Type II Diabetes. I weigh 130 and am 5'1". Certainly not obese or dangerously overweight. I have never been obese.

Totally agree - I know a few very thin people with Type 2 diabetes, though they are elderly. I don't know any young people with Type 2 diabetes who are also a healthy weight, but I know that there are some just from looking at the stats.

According to Ohio board of health and National health institutes. . It’s treated as same now. In the field also in EMS. Both can be equally bad. Both can have or not have the need for insulin. Some can be treated with diet. Some can’t. It’s just not simple as type 1. Type 2. Used to be type one was juvenile. Type 2 was older. And no need for insulin. That’s not the case anymore. Weight. Has ALOT to do with it.
Tell that to my, near death, friend. She has never been overweight. She has juvenile diabetes. Tell that to my extra skinny mom and two aunts who were never overweight and all died complications due to diabetes. Weight can be a reason but not always. Please don't spread that thinking.

When you consider that NYS pays much more in federal taxes each year than it receives in federal benefits, yes I think it was reasonable to expect federal assistance on this.

Should LA have been prepared to deal with Katrina on its own? Should FL be left to handle any and all hurricane damage on its own? Should CA receive no assistance with fires or earthquakes? If your answer is yes, then what's the point of a federal government? Aren't we then just 50 nation states?

OP, I understand where you're coming from. I live in a very small rural town. Almost all our businesses are small businesses. In 400 square miles, there are 4 fast food chain places. Everything else is local restaurants, garden shops, hair salons, etc. We have 2 grocery stores for the entire county. Although our family doesn't have a small business, I'm very concerned about our friends and neighbors who do. I've been trying to order carry out dinner a few times a week. Normally, I cook at least 6 days a week. But I"m trying to support these little restaurants. And tipping an insane percentage to the person who brings the food out to my car. There's risk to everything in life. Our governor has a stay at home request in place til June 10th. Hoping everything around here can re open then.
This. I am not sure out exact quarantine date, I'm in California, but I am sure if will end up being June. Living in a rural area is very different from the city. It is frustrating that the entire state is under lockdown like the city. My county has had 3 deaths and a 106 cases as of yesterday. I live in one of the largest counties, but we are very spread out. I am not sure what the complete answer is. I do know that you can't treat all areas the same.

The small amount of cases in your country is likely partially due to the lockdown of the larger cities. If cities are sheltering in place, people are not traveling from hot spots to smaller, rural areas that are less equipped to handle the situation.

As someone who DOES live in a city, it's very weird to see people thinking we deserve to be closed but those in rural areas don't. Our lives are upended as much, if not more, than yours.

As far as I know the uncertainty goes beyond that. The last I heard medical experts have not identified a serology test that reveals the presence of Covid-19, nor do they have a definitive answer regarding a person's immunity status, or length of immunity if present.

This isn't true. There is at least one serology test approved by the FDA so far, and several more in use overseas that have shown high accuracy. But they are in very, very, very limited use here. Germany is testing 100K per day. We have one LA area doctor testing a few dozen people, and one small town in Colorado trying widespread testing.

We don't know for sure how long immunity will last, but based on other viruses we have reason to believe it will be at least a period of years. And really, the only way we'll learn how long it lasts for sure is to track people who have had the virus... so again, testing is key.

Hearing the updates at work is crazy. One thing I haven't heard is shortage of PPE except for visors/googles. Which they have to better system of sterlizing and getting back into use.
However people are working like crazy and doing so much emergency work even though it has nothing to do with their area of specialty. These people deserve so much credit.

Here the subway should have been closed (or many stations should have been closed and only essential workers with papers allowed on). There should have been better cleaning done throughout this city and it seems horrible that no one on news seems to be talking about this because this is going to happen in state after state till summer.

I see a bunch of stores that should not be open, open.
Finally some stores finally at least in my area started limiting people in store at a time.
This should have been done earlier.

No one said you deserved to be locked in. I want this over as much as the next person. I don't understand why our areas are being treated the same. Even if they lifted some of the restrictions, I still would not be traveling to the cities. I honestly feel that by May, if our numbers remain the same, more rural areas should be able to go back to normal slowly in our area. Travel restrictions are still a good thing. As the cities start flattening, then slowly start lessening restrictions. I honestly do not see things going back normal until either late summer or late fall.

type 2 is often due to lifestyle.
Not always but it is a large factor.

In my opinion nyc was very slow to do things and then when doing things failed very badly. Public schools were open to march 13 - I know numerous parents who stopped sending their kids. And then only closed cause teachers threatened to strike.

To OP, I think you are in total denial about this virus, how it spreads and why these stringent precautions are essential for our very survival. Yes it's awful about jobs and businesses. My husband got laid off, and I'm taking a leave of absence because he's immunocompromised. If people don't do what's necessary now, if my husband gets sick, he will die. It is not time for "going back to normal". I live in New England, and we are just hitting peak over the next two weeks. Why I understand the frustration of having to all stay home, this is the only way we can stay alive. This is not "the flu". This is a new virus that we have no immunity for, which is why it's so lethal. People can have and spread the virus for up to 2 weeks without having any symptoms...so your "stay home if you're sick" comment falls flat. If people open their businesses back up, either they or their customers WILL be transmitting the virus, which means more deaths.

It's to protect you. You don't want what is happening here to happen there, I promise you.

It’s not just a opinion it’s a fact. NYC has done a terrible job.

Whether or not the response has actually been good, every governor at this point knows that if you want to get what you need from this president, you have to flatter the heck out of him. On the other hand, if you have a complaint about the federal response, that’s an easy way to have your needs buried.

Pretty messed up!

But that’s not true. Even when the President places the travel ban on. Some folks called him racist. Etc. well now we know he was right. And. California Governor Newsome who is probably as opposite in political idiology as you can get even said. “ I’m not going to lie. The President and his response has been outstanding.” So there is an example of a someone that would disagree with that. Where we live. Things have been handled well. It’s mostly up the the states individually as to how they handle things though.
The travel ban was not really a travel ban and did absolutely nothing to stop the spread of the virus, so what was he right about?

Newsom is publicly saying what needs to be said because if he says anything negative he won't get the supplies he needs. He knows how to play the game.
