Anyone else notice these bad odors in WDW?

We just got back (10/23 - 10/29) and I have to remark on the terrible odors I encountered.

Most notably was the monorail. Yuk! Wow, did the cars stink! Every single one of them (we took the monorail often). Perhaps some new, unusual cleanser they're using?

Most disturbing was the odor in the Italian restaurant in Epcot, (Alfredo's). We all thought it smelled just like powdered feet! Like my husband's feet. On a bad day. Powedered. Bleh.

Fortunately, the service and our entire meal there was fabulous (i highly recommend the chicken parm - yum) :goodvibes .

Anyone else notice this? :confused3

could it have been the cheese? takes me back to school days when we had spaghetti and the whole school smelled like stinky feet :rotfl:

i have always thought the monorail had a weird smell, thought maybe it was the flooring? it reminds me of the smell at the rainforest and the ape house in the Cleveland zoo

My theory on the monorail odor is mildew, body fluid spills & body odor all stewed together. Summer is particularly ripe.

I think the monorail always spells like pee.

"I think the monorail always spells like pee."
Yup!!!

With 3 visits in August, I would have to agree!

VERY good analogy!!

I have never ever mentioned this because many times folks on this board disagree very strongly and start getting defensive of our beloved WDW. But you are SOOO right!!! And I think the carpets are mildewed, tho the "stew" theory is intriguing! Let us say...."potpourri", shall we????LOLOLOL

Definitely my laugh for the day! Thanx for posting!!

I have always thought the monorail smells kind of like cow barn! My DH agrees with me on this one!

Monorail = mildew. Lots of wet feet courtesy of rains, rides, etc, add in a few pinches of "I just stepped in something," then coupled with a nice warm location = an interesting blend of smells, etc. You would have to seriously steam clean each car every night, and somehow get it to dry completely before putting it into service the next morning.

Powdery smell -- probably a product such as Vo-Ban. It's a congealer used after someone gets sick to make the clean-up easier. It's also loaded with scenting agents designed to mask virtually any smell...

We have always thought the monorail smells like a farmyard. I can smell it right now, just thinking about it--funny how that somewhat stinky odor has become part of my sentimental WDW memories!

Just got back yesterday, and yesterday morning after breakfast at the Crystal Palace as a last hurrah, we rode the monorail back to the Poly, and it smelled like it had been freshly shampooed/washed - almost like it had been through the carwash!!

The last three times we got off of Winnie the Pooh and we were wandering around the store, it smelt like pee. And there were great big area's ropped off that repairs were being done. Ive also never been a big fan of the musty smell when you are with the Dinosaurs in Ellen's Engery Adventure.

I am so glad to hear this. I also thought that the monorail, certain cars were worse than others, smelled like someone left a diaper on it! The only one that didn't have that smell at all is the front car, which we got to ride in on our way to Epcot!!!! For all the times I've ridden on the monorail, it was my first trip up front! It was AWESOME! Our driver didn't speak to us the whole way, but I didn't care. I was too busy video taping.

Monorail, I completly agree :earboy2:

Alfredo's--Was your husband with you :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This is the funniest thread today! Thanks for the laugh. :rotfl:

(Yes, the monorail does have a weird smell.)

The monorail always smells like a barn to me...not very pleasant!

Didn't notice any other smells from stores or such, just some people that had REALLY BAD body odor...I walked past someone at Pizza Planet last Tuesday on the way to the bathroom, and I thought I was going to pass out because they stunk so bad! It was gross!

I don't recall a bad smelling mama-rail (my dd2's name for it :lovestruc ) but I do think that Splash Mt. smelled like wet dog. :pug:

Indeed the monorail has a weird smell...
Smells like... home:)
I love the monorail no matter how stanky it is haha

Can you say febreze anyone? I carry everything else with me! :rotfl2:

I was thinking the same thing. I bet we could get rid of the smell if every DISer sprayed a shot of febreze everytime they were on the monorail. :rotfl2:

I've always thought the monorail smelled like a cow or a goat.
On our last trip I commented on it to a friend who is a former cast member/current engineer, and he said - with confidence - that it's 'reconstituted sweaty air.'

Good enough explanation for me.
