Anyone else have large infants?

I agree with everyone. Sounds like a healthy baby. My son has been big from day one. He was 2 1/2 when we took him to WDW in September and was able to ride Splash Mountain, Test Track (4 times) and Dinosaur. He will turn 3 in January and is 43 inches and 55 pounds. I call him my retirement plan. :rotfl2:

Wow!! My DS will also be 3 in Jan too and he is only 37.5 inches and 32lbs. He is soooo sports orientated, esp basketball. It is such a shame that his girl cousins are off the charts in height and weight and completely uncoordinated. He did get the good hair in the family, go figure.

OP, babies come in all shapes and sizes. If you ped isn't worried I wouldn't be. A friend of mine had the biggest (chubby) baby I have ever seen. Everyone used to call her Bubba :guilty: . She is now 9 and totally normal in weight.

I have no idea if my baby is "huge" or not.. he's almost 14 pounds now at almost 8 wks... He is also EBF. He looks so tiny in his pic below. But my other son good lord.. he's 43" at 3. He's in size 5/6 clothes.. size 10 shoes. I'm 5'3 dh is 5'7. I'm guessing he's getting it from my parents. They were tall too. Of course my cousins are all tall one played for Penn St. I think he was 6'3" Why did I get gyped on the height?!?!

As a PP said, you do have super milk! I wish I had. I never had a problem w/ my supply, just what it was made of! I produced a ton of milk, but my DDs never gained any weight. I was going for weight checks for the 1-2 times a week for the first month. I was told to increase my (healthy) fat intake - peanut butter, cheese, etc. and that still didn't help. I must have just had "fat free" milk. (I wish the rest of me was like that!) I ended up supplementing and finally they started gaining. It was hard b/c I knew they were eating (a lot) and they were content, they just weren't gaining. Ugh. Now they are perfectly healthy, though.

All 3 of my babies were monster babies  My 6 month old is 21 lbs and 28" right now!

My middle child was a huge baby, off the charts til about 6 months, about 75% at 9 months and was 15% at 2 years! Now she's a total shrimp  and we actually worried about her weight for a while! I can't even believe she was such a big baby. My son was huge and is now perfectly average size, even a little skinny.

And, we have no reasons, other than my creamy breastmilk, apparently, for them to be big -- my husband & I are not big people at all - I'm 5'2" and he's 5'10" and we're both a normal healthy weight. I just grow 'em big for the first year or so, and have gotten used to laughing off the "WOW S/he's HUGE" comments ;)

He sounds perfectly healthy to me :) That's some super milk you have there! ;)
I'm totally jealous about the sleep thing, though. My 9 month old still wakes 3-4 times each night to nurse. Ugh.

ugh is right! I JUST...and i mean JUST...got my son (9mths the 29th) to sleep through the night last week!:headache: I finally had to play hardball! I stopped going in for the middle of the night feeding (was usually around 2 am). if he fussed more than 5 mins i would go in, rub his back a bit, and then leave. after 2 night hs would just go back to sleep in 2-3 mins, and then the 4th night he didn't wake up for it at all.
then i tackled the early a.m (5am-ish) feed. same technique. only it worked in 2 mornings! never fussed more than 5 mins, so i never had to go in and pat his back.

i thought it would be harder than it was. i also thought i would feel really bad, but it wasn't too rough! now we both get enough sleep. happy mommy!...esp since i'm a nurse and work 3-11p shift! i was averaging about 5-6 hrs a night, and waking up with him twice during that time!

another trick i was told, but didn't need to use, was the give them water when they wake up. i was told they are waking up out of habit at this age, not nutritional need. worth a try!

on the other hand, i'm not saying you shouldn't still get up with him if that is right for your family! I understand that too. Just thought i'd share my experience :)

Hey everyone! I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid about my 3 month old, because the doctor doesn't seem to think there is anything to worry about. He is not quite 3 months old, is 19 pounds and about 22 or 23 inches. He seems to be gaining weight at about a pound a week lately. He is exclusively breastfed, sleeps 8 hours through the night and gets 6 feedings during the day. He seems otherwise healthy and is smiling and laughing, can hold his head up real good. He does have obstructive sleep apnea due to his uvula being too long and will have surgery for that soon. Did anyone else have giant infants that can help me not be worried there is some other issue going on???

Thanks!

my little guy has been 75% in length and weight, and 95% in head circumference since his 1 month check up. suprising since he was only 7lb 2 oz at bith, but was long at 21.5in. he was breastfed too, although i stopped about a week ago. my daughter, on the other had is very petite and always has been. she was bottle fed. i read somewhere that breastfed babies gain weight faster at the beginning and then slow down. i wouldn't worry!

My darling little sister was so huge as an infant that my mom's doctor told her to put her on a diet!:scared1: My mom said "no way am I putting my infant on a diet" and went against the doctor's advice, and now she is a 15 year old who is about 5' tall and weighs all of 90 lbs.

I am laughing as i read this....i have 3 kids and my son was my "big" one...he was 8lb6oz at birth and by 2 months was 15 lbs....i remember the health nurses mentioning my milk and i remember worrying if he didnt slow down he would be 50 lbs by a year :rotfl: ...anyways, he did slow down...he is now 15, 5 ft 9 inches and about 135....my girls were opposite, started out huge and by a year were tiny little things...my youngest was just over 17 lbs at a year and about 23 lb when she was 3....he sounds like a little butterball and completely healthy...enjoy him...they grow so quickly :sad2:

Thanks again everyone! I really appreciate the reassurance. :) And Santa is bringing him a new carseat for Christmas, so hoping he can hold steady at 20 and stay in the infant car seat for another few weeks. Otherwise, Santa might have to drop it off early at our house!

My kids were huge as babies, but are not particularly big kids. (except for my step-son 13)

Both DD5 and DS9 were outgrowing their infant car seats by 4 months old.
DS9 looked like he was a big round pumpkin and was at the top of the charts. He in now 9, weighs 70lbs, and is 54 inches tall which is about the 40th %ile.

DD5 was 10 lbs at birth and an enormous baby! She is 5 now and at about the 75 %ile.

Both were breastfed. I think that had a lot too do with it. :goodvibes

I have a little boy a lot like yours- except he's tall too. He was almost 16 pounds at his two month appointment (9 pounds, 8 ounces at birth) and now, I'm pretty sure he's around 20- but we don't go back until his 4 month appointment (which is in about 2 weeks). He's exclusively BF as well- I just think he's my big happy baby :) He about breaks my back to carry around- whether I use a sling or the car seat, but eh- he's too cute to put down!

Oh, and I know about the carseat issue! Mine goes up to 25 pounds, so I know I need to start looking into a new one- SOON!

Oh your little guy is only a day older than my dd :)
I'm glad you're getting some more sleep, especially working until 11pm!
We cosleep so it's not too bad- I mean, I don't physically have to get up. I keep telling myself that she'll outgrow it soon, just as the older two did.
It's just hard to think rationally at night when you're tired
