Anyone else have a tall daughter?

Just measured both girls tonight for our upcoming trip in September so I can make FP+ selections. My just turned 7 yo is 53" tall and my 4 yo is ¼ shy of 44". I'm 6'1" and my better half is 5'10" so I expect both girls to be tall. They are the tallest in their class. We always have to buy clothes way bigger than their age so the sleeves and legs will be long enough.

My DD just turned 12 in June and is 5'6 1/4". She is the tallest girl on her cheer team, but def not the tallest in her grade. There are several girls taller than her.

If you believe the "growth calculator predictors" that rely on the height of the parents, DD was supposed to be 5'5". I am 5'7" and DH is 5'11". So she has already surpassed that, but I'm thinking she is pretty much done. She was 5'5" a few months ago, so this is probably her last growth spurt. She became a "woman" lol in May, and I've heard that once that monthly friend starts to visit, you are pretty close to the end of your height growth? (not sure where I heard that from so I could be wrong!) But she has always been tall for her age.

FWIW, DS16 was always well over the 100%-ile for height growing up and towered over everyone his age. Until he turned about 13 or so. All the boys sprung up and his height growth was slow and steady. He is now only 5' 11" and is hoping and praying that he is not done growing. He wants to be in the low 6's for his sport. I feel bad for him - he went through years of hearing the "don't play so rough, he is smaller than you (while the other kid got to pound away on DS)" lectures from all of the adults in his life lol, and now a lot of those kids are taller than him!

Haha, DD will now be 14 in two weeks and made it to 5'8"! I can't believe how fast the past two years have gone!

And DS will be 18 in two weeks, and topped out at 5'11 1/2"! And due to severe injuries and two surgeries later, it didn't end up mattering what his height was because he won't be playing in college anyway...oh well!

I don't have a tall daughter but I have a very tall & skinny son. For his jeans, I buy Lucky Brand. Its about the only place I've found that does a 28x34. I poked around on the website & they look to have some womens jeans with up to a 36' inseam. I buy them at the outlet so they're buy 1 get 1 half off which lessens the sting a bit. They have dress pants as well.

We find a decent large size women's shoe selections at online shoe places like; Zappos, Shoesdotcom, etc and at plus size stores mortar and brick and or online like Lane Bryant, Torrid, Woman Within, Roman's, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack.

My brother wore a 27x36 for years - now he's40 and a little heavier, so it's easier to find 32x36. My mom used to order Arizona jeans from JcPenney for him when he was 27x36. I just checked and they have 28x36 (your son's size) and are typically on sale for $20 or less a pair.

OP - I empathize so much with you! Even though I am only 5'8" when I was growing up in the '60s my mom went through so much to find me clothes that fit! I was the second tallest girl in my 8th grade class of 180 students and stayed in the top 10% in height through college. Thank goodness my feet stayed at size 7 so shoes weren't a big problem. There were no Tall girl sizes available anywhere so she made some of my clothes until mini-skirts became popular. When I could, I wore men's jeans and jackets. When we did find something decent that fit we paid almost any price even though we didn't really have the money. Luckily I went to Catholic school grades 1-12 so she could alter the uniforms but it was always a struggle. Finally when I was in college all three of my brothers caught up to me and grew to 6' and higher. We have no idea where all that height came from considering my parents never made it to 5'6"!

By the late '70s I could find tall clothing in catalogs and now of course many places offer them online. Land's End, LL Bean and JCP often have decent pants online. Nowadays when I order a tall shirt I find it too long! How did I go from not fitting anything to being 'average' in size?

no matter how tall or old they may look they still see the world thru there kids eyes, I like that
So true, as I just experienced with my DD22 on our vacation to Universal!

And to stick to the topic...DD is 5'11" and did play VB all through HS.

I'm 5'11" in my bare feet, so I know a little about being a tall girl. Lol I wear a size 11 shoe and personally I love Torrid for shoes. The only problem is they can run very wide. Payless also has a somewhat decent selection, along with Cato. For tennis shoes, New Balance all the way.

Daughter measured six feet at her 12 year checkup...that is tough on a 12 year old, also when trying to find clothes and shoes that are appropriate for her age. We found that some stores like Gap and American Eagle had longer pants on their websites. She played basketball and had college scholarship offers but declined those (for academic offers) but credits basketball with making her feel that being that tall (6'3" ) wasn't so bad or weird. She now lives in a large city that has more shopping options for tall women. Girls (and boys) seem to be taller now, and fortunately retailers recognize that.
