Anyone else buy DVC anticipating years of fun for their kids and then

Time away may help - but we have a friend with an 8 year old who has NEVER liked going to Disney. We actually spent a day at the MK with them, and he was a real downer - trying to act too old for everything. The kids were really disappointed. It was funny, though, he was acting so old, but then screamed and wouldn't go past the elevator room on Haunted Mansion. My kids thought he was nuts! Anyway - his dad is the same way.... maybe it's genetic? My kids love Disney - but I do think we may be overdoing it a bit with them. I could go all the time - but when I was young, we only went to DL for 1 day every other year. So who knows - maybe it's lost the magic for yours for a while. What the friend did LOVE was hunting for the secrets I printed off the internet, and learning the history of the park. You may want to go that route. Good luck - and it's proabably just a phase. They have a lot of time left to enjoy it with you!

ITA with other posters that WDW goes in and out of favor as children pass through various ages. But don't forget, in 11 years your youngest will be an adult and you'll still have almost 30 years of romantical Disney vacations for just the two of you!

We barely do the parks anymore anyways! This will be our first trip with our 15 month old son. DH and I have done the parks so much that there's usually not much new stuff so we skip them. We can find so much other stuff to do in and around Orlando. Our upcoming trip is our first baseball spring training trip and my DH is so excited!

We have tix to 4 games and no definitive plans besides taking DS to AK and MK on Monday. Only 1 park day in our nine day trip! We can find plenty of stuff to do besides parks. Although we are looking forward to taking our DS to AK and MK--we think he will LOVE it!

Just another reason that a thrill ride park is needed, for that teen age crowd to enjoy. Universal is taking tons of Disney business. Water parks are an option to consider.

Another reason to support off site resorts, to provide some variety. We love going to Vero.

I have young kids (ages 5 and 7), and while they really do enjoy Disney...I've found that they need lots of down time as well. I really try to make sure they get plenty of time to swim and relax. I've found that spending 1/2 day in the parks "riding the rides" is about their maximum each day. We usually have an "off day" or two as well. The last few trips this has worked really well for us and the kids seem to be having more fun and having less melt-downs. As a matter of fact, I've learned to "chill out" a little myself ;).

I think we all can fall into the trap of trying to "commando" WDW. I think it's perfectly okay that you and your kids spend time at the resorts and none-park stuff. As long as they are happy...DVC still makes sense. And you never know, they may become Park fanatics over time.
