Anyone book Member Homecoming this morning?

Count us in with the "suckers." With 70,000 DVC families, I would think that they probably will sell out this event if they are only going to sell tickets for between 1,000 and 1,500 families. Does anybody know where they are as far as how many tickets they have sold so far today?

Some people would never pay the price at V&A -- other people feels it's a bargain. I hope you all have a wonderful time and I'm counting on you to fill me in when it's over!! (So that I can cry and hope there'll be a second event.) The price could even be high to hold down the crowd -- if it were free/inexpensive every member in Florida would attend and there would be a lot of disappointed members who were turned away. They gave up the member golf tournaments because too many members were disappointed when they couldn't participate.

I am trying to see if I can juggle my schedule to go - I think it will be a great time and a fun party and the price is a decent value by Disney standards for the offer - I think the nights in the park parties will be fun

I don't see any suckers here, I see people looking for a party!

:hyper:

thanks

What I don't understand is that some feel the need to put others down because they are participating. A few are the same ones that bashed the Member Cruise and I feel that we more than got our money's worth - and yes I'm well aware that we paid for it. Same here - it is a special event. It will appeal to some and they will pay for it. It will not appeal to others and they won't.

I've read most of what's been posted here and think most of the "put down" has been directed at DVC/Disney, and not members  Quite a few members have expressed disinterest in the MH for a number of reasons. I don't think expressing opinions about DVC or Disney sponsored events contitutes bashing anyones personal vacation plans. "Parade of Suckers" wasn't coined in this thread by a "Negative Nellie".

Maybe you need to look at the bright side. All the complaining members likely caused DVC to backslide (a small amount) on the costs for these "special" events. Both events (member cruise/MH) had a cost reduction after MS received numerous complaints. DVC dropped the $75.00 booking fee for the member cruise, and now they've knocked $50.00 off the MH (for those with other passes).

Go...enjoy...have the time of your life...I hope the event meets all your expectations. However, while you're enjoying the fireworks, try to keep in mind the many complainers who helped save you 50 bucks.:)

You can add me to the suckers list too! :Pinkbounc Was on the phone with MS at 8:00 am. As others said, they are using a new booking system, so it did take some time. We are relatively new owners at DVC and DH and I are thrilled at the chance to partake of a 'special' event like this and are glad it's being offered. Plus, it will be on my birthday (the 25th) and I can't think of a more awesome place to be!

We'd be going if I had a third week of vacation, got to work here another two years for that. We will be there the first week of June, and if I had that extra week we'd go a week earlier and stay for two weeks... Oh well, hopefully there will be more Member Homecomings in the future.

Strictly speaking, you are correct - some people are upset at the cost and/or scheduling of the MH. However, Johnnie, you must admit that some of the comments come very close to insulting those who do like the MH. It's like a group of people going into a restaurant and loudly commenting "Boy, the fish here is overpriced and doesn't taste good - we feel insulted that they offer it to us at this price." How do you think that makes everyone who enjoyed the fish feel? I have no problem with people thinking MH isn't right for them. What I and others have seen is people declaring that MH isn't right for anyone.

Behold The Power of DIS DVC! Assuming that a few dozen emails/calls changed the course of Disney/DVC marketing. If that's the case, we should be getting our DVC AP Discount any day now. :rotfl:

Don't have an active AP (vouchers are awaiting the right time), so no one saved me any money; but it's good to know that all the complainers were so altruistic in their motives. "I'm not going to go / not going to be there at that time, but I'll complain anyway, solely to reduce the price for others" ::heehee::

I do appreciate the civil - and lighthearted - tone that all have taken in this discussion. Long live the DIS DVC! :grouphug:

I also called this morning. So we are in. Emily is the one who took my order. She said they are thinking of having some giveaway items with our name on them and asked what names I would like to have put on them if they do. We have never attended any of DVC events so my DH and I decided even tho it might be a lot of money (maybe in the end it won't be) we would try for ourselves and make our own decisions to if we go to any future event. We just so happen to be there on this special occasion, so we decided to check it out. This trip we are celebrating my 50th bd in April and his in July so we decided that May would be in the middle of both bd's.

My DH and I are attending also. I called this afternoon and was surprised to be asked about what names we wanted on items that may be available. I was also asked if we had any dietary restrictions. I am diabetic but told the CM that wasn't a problem. I am surprised my DH agreed to attend since we are spending 2 weeks at WDW in March. Hope to meet some of you in May.

You're probably right, the fact that people complained, had nothing to do with DVC changing the MH pricing structure (weeks after they printed the promo material). Disney in true altruistic manner dropped the price on their own.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Your restaurant example also works in reverse. How do you think the customers would feel if they were served some rotten fish, all the while having to listen to the other patrons rave about how it was the best meal they've ever been offered and how they'ld like seconds.:teeth: :teeth: Everyones tastes are different.

 Ohhhh waiter

We will be there! DH and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary on June 1st so this was perfect timing! I actually noticed many anniversaries being celebrated then. DS will be staying home with his grandparents so it should be a nice getaway for us. We can't wait to meet you all in May!
Now I have to figure out the whole countdown clock thing again!

Oh, we are so going! I had a very hard time getting thru this morning, so I would guess, it's going to be a full crowd! Cool! :earsboy:

And for anyone who thinks the price is such a ripoff, I only have one thing to point you at, the last DVC member event:

SS Member Cruise (click here!)

Feel free to refresh your memory! The fact is, we got more out of that trip than just about any other we have sailed on DCL.

:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

For those of you going, I hope you have a great time. If you see me while we're all there let me know how its going! I'll be the lady with the little baby in the sling at BWV.

The event does sound like a lot of fun....but as soon to be homeowners I'm sure there will be plenty of other things we need to save our $ for. Yes, I do feel the event is overpriced...as are most things at WDW. Did that stop me from buying the $2.50 bottle of water when I needed a drink last weekend...no, because I had the $2.50 to spend. Did it stop me from taking the kids to Chef Mickey's? Nope....though I had to budget well to manage it. Will it stop me from going to this member event? Yes....because there's just no way we can justify the expense with our other circumstances.

Being insulting about things goes both ways....and those who are fortunate enough to have enough expendable income to be able to consider attending this event might do better counting their blessings rather than putting down those who don't feel the same way. I agree that the price may be high to reduce the demand....but then again, its not pleasant to be made to feel as if we're not well to do enough to be "real" DVC members...when actually we're quite fortunate.

Hope you didn't hurt your arm patting youself on the back Johnnie. :teeth:

Do I think DVC listens to members who call or write with a thought out and well spoken complaint. You bet! I think both of those things caused the changes you mentioned.

Do I think that DVC pays a lot of attention to people who bash DVC every chance they get on an internet board. Not really. I know they read the boards as that has been proven in the past. IMHO I think they know who the whiners are and tend to overlook what they have to say because they know they will never make them happy.

Lesley I agree with this. I consider myself very fortunate that we can go. I have no problem with many who either can't or don't want to go and I don't consider them any less "real" DVC members. The event isn't for everyone. I do have a problem with the major bashers of DVC and make those of us who are going feel like we are "Suckers" and yes the words were used by someone going, but done in jest. I ran into a number of DIS members on the cruise and asked why they didn't post in our thread more and the single response was they were watching others get attacked for their choice and didn't want the same. Just trying to add a little balance so the negative isn't the only thing seen.

I would love to go to this and I already have a reservation to be there. But, I have two small kids ages 6 and 7 and I am not sure if they would be able to stay up two nights in a roll until 12:00 PM.

It did not hurt, in fact my shoulders are double jointed. Therefore, I could pat myself on the back with both hands simultaneously.:D

BTW, I have written complimentary and complaint letters to Disney/DVC on several different occassions. I don't expect Disney to really respond to much of anything posted on this or any webboard.

We were at OKW on the 17th, so we called from the room at 8:59, and got right through. Since we have APs we took the $249 option for the two of us. We waffled about it for several days, but decided on the whole we'd rather try it than not.

I was intrigued by some of the questions I was asked... first names for personlized items; whether we would have a car or not; if we had any food allergies. The CM claimed the personalized question was for documentation they would be sending, but that sounds fishy to me :)

Terry,

We struggled with this too. We have a DS9 & DS3(4 at the time). Both have been the MVMCP & MNSSHP and lasted throughout the evening. However, I was hesitant to do it two nights in a row. Besides, reading over the info we received about the MH, it didn't seem geared towards little kids. While I know they would be great at MK, I wasn't so sure about Epcot for an entire evening.

We decided we'd treat ourselves to the events and treat them to two evenings in the Cubs Den at WL. I'm not so concerned about my younger DS being happy there, it's my DS9 who I'm a little concerned will be bored.

We are certainly looking forward to it -- and a special treat for us to not have our kids with us. It's not usual for us to leave our children behind but I think in this case, it's going to be for the best. Besides, they will have all of the other fun time we spend at WDW. They don't know it but they are very, very fortunate. This will be our 3rd trip in 7 months so they really do not have room to complain about Mom & Dad spending some time without them.

Best of luck in your decision.

Peter Johnson, I was more curious as to why they inquired as to whether or not we would have our own transportation as to "nicknames" we might use. I suspect there will be personalized goodies at the events.:D

Hey Peter, do you suppose that after they cut the price for AP holders that they ran out of money to pay for Disney busses?

Maybe they're going to make you guys carpool :teeth:

I wonder how many tickets they have sold by now? So, I know whether or not to still be tempted to go! ;)
