Anybody know what this is?

Over the weekend we found these two on our back deck... no idea what they are though. Anybody have a guess?

They were pretty good sized, but able to run very fast when we went out there.

I thought quail also, but when I showed the pic to someone who has hunted them he said they weren't. I just don't have a clue, there were 4 of them, 2 in the yard and the 2 in the picture.

I think it is a Chukar, which is a European Partridge.Some people raise them to hunt and they tend to get away.

Thank you for the answers! Wonder what they were doing in our back yard, they must have been very lost. I don't think a pear tree will do well with the snow in the back yard, but I do have a bowl full sitting on the counter That must have been what attracted them
