Colleen...I was thinking of doing the same for that day. There are 15 of us...7 adults and 8 children ages:7DNiece,9DNep,10DD,10DNep,12DS,12Dnep,15DS,17DS! I am soooo relieved that we aren't going to Nassau!

Carol, Tami, Laura, and all

That would be great if your groups could join us. We went with a group on our last cruise and had a great time. We took some sand toys for the kids and the tweens and teens had a great time too on the beach and banana boats. I can remember having great food, yum gaucamole. I also remember they had bottled sodas ($1 Coke, Orange and Sprite) for the kids, which I really liked, no one had a hint of sickness.

We met just when you exit the ship (on the pier) and then headed over together. We could do that again, we just need to plan a time.

I just booked the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins tour at Costa Maya through http://www.chacchobenruins.com/ for myself, my wife, and our two teenage daughters.

This is not the same Chacchoben tour that's offered as an official shore excursion. I'm sure the official tour is great, but, in this case, this independent tour seems even more promising. On the Costa Maya board at CruiseCritic.com, various posts gave glowing reviews of the quality of the tours given by Ivan and David. Ivan Cohuo was born and grew up at the Chacchoben Ruins. His father, Serviliano Cohuo, farmed the area, but did not disturb the Mayan ruins and surrounding jungle on his property.

The tours by Ivan and David are less expensive than the official excursion ($43 vs. $69 for adults). If the only difference were price, I would book the official DCL excursion for convenience. But the real difference is getting a small group tour presented Ivan and/or David, who get very high marks for their knowledge and presentation skill.

On Wednesday, December 21st, the tour will depart from their location in Majahual village (the town near Costa Maya) at 11:30 a.m., or one hour after the ship docks.

Booking the tour is a 2-step process. First, you need to fill in a form to inquire about availability. Then, after you get a positive reply, you need to confirm and provide the names of the people you are booking. There's no credit card deposit needed (for now at least). At the beginning of the tour, you pay in cash (US Dollars or Mexican Pesos).

See you on the tour then. I booked it a couple of weeks ago when it became apparent that DCL would not be returning to Cozumel any time soon.

We will be doing the DCL snorkel excursion in Costa Maya. My Dad was really looking forward to the scuba excursion in GC but he also wants to snorkel with his "buddy" my DD. So we told him to scuba in GC and we will all snorkel in Costa Maya together. He was really stressing about having to choose between the two. He has been looking forward to open water activities with DD for years. :cloud9: :lovestruc I think it is cute. :flower:

The taxi ride to the beach sounded great but I will do this for my dad. :flower:  My mom might just hit the village and shop her way through Costa Maya! :rotfl2:

Ugh! So much to do and so little time! Off to check on school work progress.
See y'all in 26 days!

Well I *thought* we would do the snorkel excursion but it seems to be sold out.....guess I will have to explore private operations and find something suitable.

Do we know what time we arrive and depart Costa Maya?

We were thinking about not doing an excursion in Costa Maya and just roaming / shopping, but I haven't even looked to see what there is near the port for doing that. Anyone able to point me to a website for info? We had planned to just do shopping in Cozumel.

Are we the first ones to get our Cruise Documents? They were waiting for us on the front porch this afternoon!

     :bounce: :bounce:

We haven't got our cruise documents and apparently won't be getting them until we pick them up at the port. Our travel agent said DCL wouldn't send them out because they wouldn't arrive here before we leave on December 9. We would have preferred to have received them before we left home.

Take care,

The port where the Disney Magic will arrive on December 21 is Puerto Costa Maya: http://www.puertocostamaya.com

The port area includes shopping, entertainment, dining & drinking, a pool, and places to relax. From the picture it looks very nice, but rather artificial. (Of course, we Disney fans like things that are artificial!) It seems that many cruise passengers never leave the port complex.

For US$3 per person, you can leave Puerto Costa Maya and head into a nearby village of Majahual, which is either 1/2 mile away or 2 1/2 miles away, depending on which website you want to believe.

Here are two web pages about Majahual:

Cindy,
we have not got our documents yet, maybe today??????
We usually get them 2 to 3 weeks prior to our trip, so anyday now I hope.
see you soon,
Kathy

Cindy,

How exciting! Did you book directly through Disney or through a TA? My TA said our documents would be sent to her first and then she would forward them to us, so I don't expect them for another week.

On the topic of Costa Maya, your family should think about coming over to the town of the Mahajual ($3 ride) south of Costa Maya for a beach day. Some families will be heading over there for a few hours to swim, sand, banana boat rides, refreshments and snacks. There are cabs that run constantly ($2 per person return) that can take you back to the ships. I have been there twice and although it is a little (well a lot) rustic, it was really fun.
