Sandy,
I had to think long and hard and did a lot of calculations before I bought in but when I looked at what I was spending for my two trips a year, even at the value resorts at the AP rates, It still worked out to go with the DVC. Now I get to stay at premium level resorts for less that an AP rate at a value. I can stay a week (7 nights) at OKW studio for the equivilant of $560. The same room booked by a non DVC member is $2100 plus tax. A value resort @ $99 a night with tax is like $810.
I also got frustrated with the AP rates. They wouldn't be posted until late in the year and 90% of the time the rate wasn't availalbe at the hotel I wanted to stay at or not for the number of nights I needed. Since non Florida residents can now buy AP's it's going to get tougher and tougher to find available rooms, especially at the moderates.
Have fun on the cruise!
