Any Lilly Pulitzer fans get successful at Target yesterday?

My daughter used to work for LP in corporate ..and there's way too much Lily in this house already!
I like the items well enough, but still think if you are out of the state of Florida it looks a little beachy in other places.
I do love her scarves and accessories though, they add just enough fun!

That surprises me. The Target collection must be longer than the dresses sold on the Lily website. I looked yesterday to see what all the hub bub was about and the majority of their "dresses" are fingertip length. I thought they were all swimsuit cover ups. LOL

Yeah they are short. She's barely 5' though so it was about knee length.
Maybe that's a part of it. I'm short too so those super short dresses are just above the knee on me. That does change the overall look.

Just popping on to say that my DD was VERY disappointed to be unable to get even the ONE DRESS that she really wanted..... but of course, just HOURS later, it was available on Ebay for nearly double the price. Of course, I understand a free economy and all that.... just disappointing that some folks grabbed up lots of stuff while others got nada. And disappointed with Target that the supply was so limited as to sell out in MINUTES.............P

That's funny. When I think of Lilly Pulitzer I think of middle aged women that spend the winter in Florida.

True. Around here in Winter Park, it's mostly worn by Rollins College students and the Leathery Old Ladies who Lunch on Park Avenue. It's sort of the country club uniform.

I just read some blog about this whole thing and boy some of these women are crazy. One of them said "this is the biggest disappointment of my life so far". Really, because you couldn't get some designer's lesser quality clothes, and some of it hideous, at Target?
It is definitely entertaining to read LOL

My wife got a few items for our daughter and we are looking on eBay for reasonable priced items.

But someone might see her in her "real" $200 Lilly dress and mistake it for a $60 Target Lilly. Oh, the horrors!

And, this is why people buy overpriced "designer" labels....so people KNOW how very special they are. If they can't be "special" then they simply don't want to wear those clothes.

I have never ever cared about "designer" fashions. I buy what I like, and what seems reasonably priced. It's just clothes.

Overpriced is a relative and subjective term. If it's high quality and last a long time is it overpriced? It all depends on the buyer. I would rather spend more to get higher quality and keep it longer (assuming well cared for).

I agree with that. I buy some thing that are higher priced because the quality is very good and I know it will last.
I think it's the attitude that this collaboration is "prostituting the brand" is what the other poster was referring to.
Buy things because you like them and you are fine with the price for what you are getting, not because it's a certain brand and people will know how much it cost just by a casual look at it.

I think it's kind of sweet that Lilly is such an inter generational line. Beloved by college girls and elders, that is not an easy thing to accomplish.

I have quite a bit of Lilly in my closet and so does my daughter. Most years I buy 3-4 new Lilly items for each of us to freshen up or spring/summer wardrobes. I am not buying anything this year due to it being available at Target. I liked Lilly because it was cute, fun, and special. Prostituting it out to Target now makes it no longer special IMHO.

To those who bought it and are happy with it congrats and enjoy. Personally I will just buy more Vineyard Vines this year when I need/want summer clothes that are fun.

Well, Lilly Pulitzer's family didn't see the Target sale as offensive.

"The granddaughter of the late Palm Beach fashion trendsetter managed to buy a floral-printed hammock online, but only because she set an alarm."

"Pulitzer's daughter wanted a beach chair but missed out. Palm Beach Realtor Liza Pulitzer tells the Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1IBDS3P ) her mother "would have loved the fact that everybody wanted to get something, a piece of Lilly.""

I mostly agree with this and especially for electronics follow that rule. But I've also found it can be hit or miss to buy expensive brands over cheap stuff. A good example is gap and old Navy. I know they aren't designer quality but gap sells crap for nearer the 100 dollar baseline and old Navy sells cheap stuff that lasts longer.

Yes I'm still bitter that my 80 dollar pants from gap lasted a month. :(

I buy what I like. If it's a real coach bag or a real Lilly Pulitzer skirt or a 5 dollar Old Navy Tshirt!
I don't think anyone is arguing that there are high quality things that are better made and cost more. That last longer.
These aren't knock off's they are a just a reasonably priced, fun and trendy line of LP.
There are lots of high end, designer clothing and makeup brands that have less expensive lines tied to them. LP is doing nothing new.
I doubt people who are buying these items really think they are getting the same quality of the more expensive garments and accessories.

I will buy what I like, within reason. :) Kelly Clarkson is on the cover of Redbook and I LOVE the dress she is wearing and thought it would be a nice dress to wear to DH's and DS's graduation ceremonies....until I looked it up and found it was $600. :faint: Needless to say, that dress I loved isn't coming home with me. ;)

Target has done this multiple times with different designers, Missoni being another super popular one. It's a one-time, one run deal. These limited time, nearly "flash sales", do not have a long lasting impact on the brands, either positive or negative. They do not make the same items or prints for Target as they do the regular line. The sale only lasted about 5 minutes. Unless you'd be upset because someone bought Lilly at an outlet mall or on clearance, there's no reason to be upset about this. And Lilly is only mid-market anyway.

I actually feel it is "prostituting the brand" by taking it from a boutique only item to a mass market item, but that's IMHO. If I'm going to shell out hard earned $ for a special, high end boutique only item I want to feel that I'm not getting cheated by the fact that someone can buy the same brand at a big box store. Looses the cache of the brand. In this case it appears to be a one off collaboration, not a regular product in the target line and they most of what is being offered are items never made or sold in the boutiques (cushions, towels, etc).

Pic is from last summer. Wife and daughter both in LP lol

I was unaware that the sell "boutique only" items at Nordstrom, Dillards, Saks etc...
And I'm sorry but it's not even THAT high end. HighER end maybe, but we're not talking couture here.

ETA- And you have a beautiful family. What a little cutie.
