Just beginning to plan for Oct 06. We LOVE the Disney Value Resorts...there is plenty of room for us. BUT I'd like to try off-site perhaps. Are there any places close to everything (we're also adding Discovery Cove to this trip) that can compare to the rates at POP? DH is NOT a disney guy...so it's me & my 2 dd's on the trip again...so space isnt' an issue. We also are "snackers" meaning we don't eat alot & granola bars are fine for breakfast...so a kitchen isn't a necessity either. We typically hit the parks by 8am and stay till close....so we don't spend much time in the hotel really.

thanks for your opinions & thoughts!

Rent points, privately, from a DVCer:)

A studio at OKW in Adventure season goes for 8 points/night...current rental rates generally run around $10/point.

*AND* you can add-on dining.

If you really want to do offsite, there are tons of options available, especially for that time of year:)

The agents at Dreams are terrific, and they're our Board Sponsor:)

Check out Hotwire or priceline. Oct is slow time so, you may be able to get a good deal with hotwire. I've seen the Sheraton Safari for about $65 a night sometimes. If you can't figure out what hotel it is go to betterbidding.com, look uner Florida, hotwire hotels. Also check out hotelkingdom.com, you can sometimes grab a real bargain there.

It does involve an amount of trust between you and the owner...pick someone that is advertising points for rent, and do a search under their screenname,,,and read some of their posts..

Not saying this is a foolproof method, but it may help a little :)

When you do find someone, ask for any references they may be able to provide, ie, previous renters..some owners are going to ask for all $$ up front, others are going to have certain % deposits, etc..

And who knows, some owners may even be set up to take PayPal/credit card..

We rented our points out, and had a great experience - used the cash to pay for our villa rental this last trip:)...sadly, we don't have any left!!

Most of October is Regular season for Values ($99). For $71 you could have Cypress Pointe Grand Villas and that includes the weekends if that is an issue. The WDW villas can be pretty expensive on the weekends.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo at CPGV last fall and LOVED it! It has two pools and the one has pool slides and a volcano in the middle.

I know you said you don't cook meals, but it is so nice to have a full fridge to put drinks in or toast a bagel or bread. We would go to the supermarket and get those bowls of cut up melon/strawberries, keep that in the fridge and have it in the mornings or when we would get back from the parks.

You would also get a "roman tub" in the bathroom. We loved this after a long day in the parks!

Here is their website. I got the rates off of www.hotelkingdom.com . The two bedroom (which is what we were in) is $93 something.

October at Disney seems to get busier every year. We go most years for Fall break and have noticed a definite increase in the crowds, particularly for the week of Columbus Day. I'm sure the Food and Wine Fest has a lot to do with it.

We also liked the 2 bedroom at cypress pointe, in the grande villas section. But we do cook a bit. You don't get daily housekeeping, but for us the washer/dryer is better.

Another place we liked, also without daily housekeeping, was a townhouse rental in Windsor Palms. There are similar units in the new Windsor Hills. These are rent from owners or a management company. Tons of space, with your own (little) backyard. Many have the backyard filled with a splash pool or sometimes a hot tub. We enjoyed the king bed and multiple bathrooms. Both have community pools.

I have to have daily housekeeping!!!!!!!!!!!! I clean the house every day while I'm at home! I'm NOT doing it on vacation!!! hahaah

Thanks everyone for all the input....I'm looking into everything....you guys have posted so far. We're thinking of Oct 3-9 si truly still value season at value resorts...BUT I really like the Sunspree so far & Cypress looks cool.

How can Cypress pointe be so inexpensive? I don't get it!! A 2 bedroom villa
that cheap. Is there a timeshare presentation you must get pitched or something? I have never seen a 2 bedroom for that cheap!!!

I know! But there it is. I don't know how they do it either.

I think sometimes these things go in cycles, it is just CP's turn right now. Although, it seems to have been their turn for a while now.

Last year we won our week on Skyauction.........we paid $220 for the WEEK!! When we got there I thought I had won the Lottery.

Maybe they just want to get us really hooked and then they will raise prices. I must admit, I'm hooked already! :teeth: :cheer2:
