I'm looking into getting a new vehicle here shortly. I am able to get "A" plan discount through my exfiance's father who works for DaimlerChrysler. I'm interested in getting a new Jeep Liberty CRD and it looks like it will sticker out at about 30k.

Is there anyone out there in the field that can tell me what kind of money off I'm looking at by applying the "A" plan code to a vehicle that stickers for about 30k?

I'm not ready to go into the dealership just yet but I want to know what kind of discount, if you will, I will be getting with the A plan before I go in.

Thanks!

is this posting? I searched for threads that I created and this one didn't come up? hmm??

Anyway, is there anyone out there that can help me out?

Typically A-Plan is is dealer invoice +/-. I don't think they take the holdback too - the dealer gets to keep that, but if you go to edmunds.com , you can look up what invoice is and that should give you a pretty good idea of what you'll pay. Not sure if that is true for Chrysler as I have only done X-Plan (A-plan +4%)thru Ford and the equivalent of A-Plan ("dead cost") through Lexus.

I would go in first and negotiate the best deal you can without giving away the "A" plan....

I've never paid anything more than invoice- well I take that back...my Envoy is a lease, but when I buy a vehicle- for instance DH's Duramax, we paid just about 500 under dealer invoice...and thats just from negotiating... Never lay it all out on the table when you walk through the door...

Same goes if your trading- get your best price without telling them your trading...then tell em you are LOL.....

Well, I will be trading in a 99 Ranger 4x4. It's paid off so whatever they're going to give me will go directly towards the new one which is nice but I didn't know that I shouldn't tell them that right off the bat.

So, I should go in and negotiate first? I'm so not good at that...I'm a sucker and a softie and I'd be like "oh, okay..." instead of "oh, that's not gonna work for me...".
I think I'm going to make my BF go with me becuase he knows much more about this kind of thing than I do.

what you need to do is build the car you want on line- then go to edmunds, and find the invoice price. You need to know exactly what costs what...

Do NOT tell them you want a payment of XXX....you tell them you will pay a total of XXX...XXX being invoice price...

Then- after they say "okay"...yes- you'll have to negotiate first but they will agree to it, if not- go to a different dealer....but anyway- after they say "okay" to your bottom line- THEN you tell them you've got a trade.

BUT your ranger is 6 years old....they probably wont give you much..You might be better selling it on your own....most new car dealers dont keep used cars that are that old, they're gonna send it to auction...therefore they wont give you much. find out what your trade in value is www.kbb.com and what your private sale value is... If I had a trade in that was 6 years old, I'd put it in the paper and sell it on my own...

Check http://www.kbb.com//, excellent help. I use Edmunds also, feel Kelly is a bit easier. Calculate the new car, then your current car. It will give you a good idea of the value of current, both as a trade-in to dealer as well as private sale. Unless you are buying a 'hot' car (maybe like the current Mustang), you should be able to buy a new car for 'invoice', less ALL rebates and incentives. Dealer should be able to do just fine on the hold back. Also, cash back in lieu of low interest on financing is most often better. If you finance, but have to give up cash back to get it, finance somewhere else.

Be sure to go to www.kbb.com to get a fair and accurate estimate for the trade-in. I sell cars and kbb is the closest thing to "black book"(what dealers use to gage how much trades are worth) and it is the most up to date site. I agree go in and negotiate prior to letting them know about the A plan. The dealers in your area may have "dealer cash"( a sum of money that is kicked back to the dealer) and you may get a better deal. I agree look at edmunds and find out how much the invoice is and take into consideration that it may not include advertising fees which are around a few hundred dollars. Also Edmunds may show what kind of incentives are in your area. If you are getting a loan you may be better off taking the A plan and special financing. My best piece of advice is reasearch, reasearch, research!! Remember not all salesperson's or dealer's are out to get you!
If you are timid and want to get the best deal I totally sugest educating yourself prior to stepping into a dealer's showroom. Also if you have a few dealer's in your town check them out and make sure you go with the one that you feel most comfortable with!! Best Wishes in your new car quest!!

I do not go in to a dealership to negotiate a price. NEVER NEVER NEVER!!! What I do is a fax attack. I find out the name of the name of the new vehicle sales manager and their fax number and then I fax them and let them know that I plan on buying that car on the same day if the give me a great price. I tell them that I am a informed consumer and that I know what other people have paid for that vehicle and that I know about the incentives and dealer hold back.then I tell them if the want to make a very fast sale then to call me back today at ...... I just bought a Honda Pilot about 2 weeks ago using this way. I faxed 13 dealerships and got back 7 replies.Try to fax as many dealrships as possible aven those not in your area.because I would drive to save money.plus the one closest to your home may match it once they find out that you will have you car serviced there.also, I did not tell them about the trade until I got there.I was trading in a 2002 toyota 4runnrer so, I went by a few toyota dealerships before I got there to get a feel for what my car value was. Also, get your quote in writing tell them to fax that to you too! :wizard:

The "plan" pricing is set by the manufacturer - and it should be a good bit below invoice (at least it was when I had experience with Ford's a/b plans)... Oh! There is a Chrysler dealer on ebay motors - has great prices, you may want to look at what they're offering them for. Just do a search for new Jeeps - it'll come up. When we were considering a new Durango they were much lower than anyone else.

...because the dealer won't be making much profit off the car, they'll be looking for it elsewhere - trade or financing. Be ready to buy your car without trading (to sell outright and put that $$ on your loan)

...be preapproved through your local bank/credit union. Know what those rates are. You can look at dealer financing... but know that if what they offer you is not attractive you can use your other financing. The dealer can add up to 4-6 % onto whatever the bank is offering as a "buy" rate - say they offer their customer 8% financing instead of the 5% the finance co offers - that 3% is profit for the dealership.

Honestly, I do not have the patience to deal with the typical car salesman - I usually go in, pre approval check in hand, tell them what I want and what I want to pay... either they deal or not!

Okay, I just checked Kelley Blue Book online for my trade in and private party resale value. For the trade in value it said $4710 and for the private party resale it said $6750.

I went to a dealership about a year and a half ago and they told me then that they would give me about $4200 for it so I would think that now they wouldn't give me much more than about $3000. So, I guess the best bet would be to try and sell it on my own. I've had luck selling a snowmobile on my own on ebay so I might try that or list it in a local paper. I can't be without it after it sells though so I'll need to have the new one lined up by then I guess.

My BF has a great salesman that he has dealt with for his last 2 vehicles. It's a dodge dealer but the owner also owns a Jeep dealership nearby so BF's salesman said that they can also do the sales for Jeep's since it's the same company. That makes me happy because I know he will get me the best deal he can knowing that I (and my BF) will continue to buy cars from him and refer others to him as well if we get a good deal.

So, now I guess I research how much cars like mine are going for around here and get moving on trying to get rid of it. The only problem is, that the Jeep Liberty Diesel's (which I want) haven't been delivered to dealerships yet so I'll probably have to order one which means I don't know exactly when I will receive it. When I ordered my last ford, it took 5 months for them to build and deliver!

Even though your BF has dealt with the salesperson before you should get another price - challenge the salesperson -no offense, but he doesn't know you and your BF but for a couple visits ove the past few years, he has to make money and if you "think" you are getting a deal he has you beat - you need to "KNOW" you are getting a deal...don't be so trusting, there are too many nuances to car sales that the general public knows little or nothing about...my DW's family owns 20 dealerships, believe me I have heard all of the assumptions and all of the "great deals" that friends got because they "knew" the guy, but when they got a comparison price from me (via DW) they were shocked at how much more they could've saved.

Definitely try to sell the old car on your own - even if the dealership gives you more money for it they will get it out of another end of the deal...somewhere.

I am going to check around at different dealerships. I know that my BF has sent several of his co-workers and friends to this guy and they've always been pleased with the price they get but I do want to be able to challenge him if he comes back with somehting that I don't think is the "best he can do" if you will.

Do me a favor and DONT get the jeep diesel this year...

Wait a full year- so they get the bugs out of it....

You know....I always say I'll never buy a vehicle the first year but I don't know if I can wait another year and I don't want to get anything else just to "settle"...so I'm really gonna have to think hard about it. I just don't know if my vehicle is gonna make it one more year.
