Typically, the Mods are quick to shutdown threads that have politics in them. Where are they on this one?
Corey specifically said he would keep this thread open as he knew we needed a place to discuss this as Canadian Disney lovers. I know we hold ourselves true to our values as compassionate and understanding people who can discuss this topic rationally.Typically, the Mods are quick to shutdown threads that have politics in them. Only you can do what you feel is right, but IMHO, go and have fun. I fully understand the anger everyone has with Trump and his administration. I fully understand the boycott America/buy Canadian movement. It is not worth losing thousands of dollars over. Furthermore, if you have never stayed at the Grand Californian, you are in for a treat. Even if you feel you need to be fully onboard with the boycott USA movement, make this one exception. I don't think you will regret it.We are in a lousy situation right now. We have (had?) a Disneyland trip planned for early April and are now looking at cancelling.
When I looked into what it would cost to cancel, this is how it broke down for us:
Flights: my sister can cancel her flights and get a credit with WestJet. Dh and I can cancel the WestJet part and get a credit but it am still trying to get an answer out of United. Potential loss for non-cancellable flights is around $1000.
Disneyland tickets: We bought them ages ago from a UK vendor and can hold onto them, while it will cost us more to flip them into current tickets the next time we go back in a few years, at least they will retain their value.
Star Wars Night tickets: total loss as they cannot be returned. Aprox $800 lost
Car service from Lax and back: no loss as I can cancel this.
Ferry to and from Vancouver: I should be able to cancel and only lose around $20
Airport parking: same as the car service, I can cancel and get my $ back.
Airport hotel: can be cancelled with no penalty.
Accommodations: ugh, this is the big one. We rented a 2 bedroom DVC suite at the Grand and unless the owner can find someone to take on the reservation we will be out the whole amount paid, $7,700.00
So, if we cancel, we are looking at a loss of almost $10,000
Anyways, just a little vent from me about the state of things right now.

There's no way I would cancel. It is one thing to not plan new trips. It is a completely different thing to take a loss on booked ones. Who knows what is going to happen down the road. I would go and have the best possible time.Yeah, thank you for the words of encouragement! I am talking with my sister on Friday and we will make our decision then.
And totally agree about the Grand! We have stayed there on the hotel side twice and the DVC side three or four times so far. Absolutely our #1 choice of where to stay at DL!
I wouldn't cancel either if it meant losing any money. I'm not about to make a donation to the US of thousands of dollars for nothing in return. I'd go but not buy any souvenirs or alcohol, try to spend as little as possible on food. That's what I'm doing. However, no future trips to the US. Never again. Not a snowball's chance in hell. Cancelled February 2026. Buh-bye.There's no way I would cancel. It is one thing to not plan new trips. It is a completely different thing to take a loss on booked ones. Another thing to consider is how California voted in the last election. They may (or may not) be too happy with what is going on in the US at the moment (I do have an opinion on the matter but I'm trying to stay on the fence for the purpose of this post). We are in a lousy situation right now. That's a lot to lose. I wouldn't cancel. Also I wouldn't feel as bad, as someone else mentioned, thinking of how the state might feel about what's going on.Yeah, thank you for the words of encouragement! I am talking with my sister on Friday and we will make our decision then.

Agree with your assessment regarding the posts .I just wonder if people on here were pro-Red (aka Republican) they would be locking this down fast. Since it's pro-Blue (Democrat), I wonder if they are keeping it open as it aligns with their own beliefs. Any other times there was a slight discussion on anything political, we would get warnings.
Given the circumstances, I would encourage you to go and enjoy your vacation. 10k is way too much to lose, definitely go.We are in a lousy situation right now. We have (had?) a Disneyland trip planned for early April and are now looking at cancelling.

I wouldn't be cancelling and losing money over all of this. There is no way I would be losing any money over any of this.We are in a lousy situation right now. We have (had?) a Disneyland trip planned for early April and are now looking at cancelling.
