Any Canuck heading down March break

The impact of reduced travel will make a very very significant impact. I know several large companies that have canceled multi million dollar corporate events in the US. It's now become quite a challenge for the summer and into the fall to get accommodation in large Canadian cities for groups in the 500 room plus range as things are filling up FAST. I've done small part. I bought a few thousand recently with Canadian retailers when I'd just have instinctively bought from Amazon. Small part. But I'm keeping track. I hope lots of Americans come up this summer. The cottages in Ontario are starting to become a hot commodity. Not covid insane.......yet. But definitely something to keep an eye on.

This is a really tough one. We have 2 trips planned in the next year. At first, I thought we could ignore the politics and simply enjoy the Disney bubble.

As the threats of annexation escalate, however, it's getting harder to justify.

My sister moved to North Carolina last year for work. Her reports on the ground are that most Americans are treating annexation like it's a fun idea and don't understand why we wouldn't want to join. The level of ignorance among the populace as to why it's incredibly offensive to suggest annexation of a sovereign nation is getting impossible to ignore. Our protests need to be louder, apparently, and tourism dollars talk.

Not sure what to do. My kids would be crushed to cancel. We are DVC owners. We've already purchased plane and park tickets. Perhaps we continue with our trip plans this year, but cancel any more going forward?
It's such a tough decision. I'm in the same boat...have a trip already paid for, would lose thousands of dollars if I cancelled and seriously mess up the plans of and dissappoint my travel party. So I'm going but feel sick about it.

I could cancel and eat the cost but that would somehow be worse...like making a donation to the US. If I'm giving them money, I'm darned well going to get something in return.

I did cancel a trip in February next year for Epic Universe but won't lose any money as it was just in planning stages. I'll be going to Namibia and supporting the economy of an African country instead. Honestly, it doesn't cost much more than going to USO or WDW. If you want to give your kids a holiday to remember, take them on real safari to Kruger in South Africa...it's amazing.

I don't think I'll ever step foot on US soil again except as a stopover on a flight to somewhere else.

In short, no shade from me if you decide to go on trips you already paid for. Why give the US something for nothing? But there are so many amazing experiences to be had in the world that won't cost more than a Disney vacation. Maybe see this is an exciting opportunity to go do something else. But I do understand the pull of WDW...it's one of my happy places too.

I just wanted to say that I'm loving all the Canadian pride being shown here (and totally respect that people have different opinions on choices and appreciate the civil discussions.)

We are firmly in the "no US travel for four years" camp but we are also lucky to have no non refundable tickets or flights booked at the moment. What we do have planned is a trip to Tokyo Disney coming up in 3 weeks! It will be our second trip there and I strongly urge my fellow Canadians to consider Japan for their Disney fix.

Tokyo Disney feels like American Disney did 20 years ago. It is so clean and so friendly and prices are extremely reasonable compared to US dollar prices right now. The Japanese Disney fans are so fun and enthusiastic, dressing up and dancing along to all the shows. We don't speak a word of Japanese but had zero issues with language at Tokyo Disney. There is a lot of English on signs and cast members go out of their way to help. The second Tokyo park, DisneySea, is by far the most beautiful park I've ever visited. The only downside I can see is that after experiencing Japanese Disney, the American parks are a bit of a letdown!

Another option for Canadian travellers is Disneyland Paris. We were just there in August had a great time. (Although, sadly, their second Studios park is a bit of a letdown). They get lots of British visitors so there's no language issue there either. Although as a Canadian in France I always find myself endlessly turning the cans and packages around in the stores trying to find the English side!!

I know that lots of Canadians are on a tight budget for travel, but given the way Disney costs have gone up in the states in the past few years, you might be surprised to find that the other savings more than balance out the additional flight costs of going somewhere else. We're paying less than $100 Cdn per day per person for our Disney and Universal tickets in Japan.

Happy travels everyone.

We are planning to do DisneyLand with our GD next Jan for her birthday. It was always our dream to take our own kids - but could never afford to do it. We have taken them as adults - which was amazing, but now we can go with our DD and gd (and maybe son-in-law if he decides he wants to come too) and see her experience the magic.

As for any other trips in the US, we have pushed them off for now. We had planned to do at least 2 nascar trips this year. Those have been cancelled. Winter vacations we always preferred all-inclusive in warmer climates. As much as I wanted to go to Hawaii for our 35 anniversary - for now, it won't happen there.

We finally have the finances to be able to travel - and now we will put all the other US places we wanted to go to on hold for now. There is a whole world to explore. We are leaning heavily to see parts of Europe.

We weren't planning on going anywhere this year due to me waiting on surgery. Next year we were planning Hawaii, but we will look at other alternatives outside USA.

We weren't planning Disney until 2027, so we'll see what happens by then, but most likely we'll push it off. Grand kids are getting older and if we feel that we still need to take them that year, maybe we'll do Disneyland since it's not a red state.

While I am not sure if future travel is even in store for me, there is a part of me that is excited by the idea of visiting someplace entirely new. I unashamedly confess to my addiction and being “that person” who spent nearly every vacation dollar on WDW trips. Members of my family enabled my Disney obsession, too. DH and DD only ever want to travel where there is warmth. My grandsons share the love for WDW, and would even be happy to spend a solid week at TL and Disney Springs. We have our favourite resort communities and the Kissimmee/Lake Buena Vista area felt like home, comfortable and familiar.

I am honest enough to admit that my DD and I would normally have a short list of vacation rentals and a couple tentative dates circled by now for our almost annual pilgrimage to catch the end of the F&W Festival and start of the Holiday season. We might say we were just dreaming but we’d be ready for just the right trigger (such as a good airfare) to appear and we’d be booking it as fast as we could.

There is a real element of liberation and I am going to embrace the possibility of another destination!

A family friend was travelling in the US recently, specifically Michigan and Florida. While at a coffee shop in Michigan he chatted up his server who asked where he's from. He said Canada and the server told him Canadians get free coffee. A server in a Florida diner told him he'd have to go somewhere else for breakfast because they don't serve Canadians. Yet another reason not to want to travel to Florida. I'll definitely be telling everyone I'm from North Dakota.

Apparently my co-worker recently had a similar experience while visiting North Dakota. I cannot imagine being refused service due to my citizenship. It’s a done deal for me.

We have non-refundable flights and are still going to Disney, but every single dollar we spend (except for Mears) will be going to Disney. I figure we have Disney stock so we should help keep them afloat. That is how I justify it anyway.

Unfortunately, all the MAGAt's believe every word the orange clown utters from his mouth, so we treat them unfairly, we are ripping them off, they are subsidizing us...blah, blah, blah. That said, I can't believe some Canadians are being refused service. Keep in mind many Americans do not feel that way. Just read an article that a couple in Michigan crossed the border for a meal and paid for everyone's meal to show their appreciation and support for Canadians.

This is the crux of it. If everything said about us were true, you can sort of understand why they have a beef with us. It really sucks to be lied about in such a major way - and have so many people believe the lies. :( There is no defending yourself or arguing the facts with them if they believe him and refuse to research it for themselves.

Wonderful to hear the good news stories, though.

Yikes. Don't serve Canadians. ..... Anyhow. Many other places to visit in this very large world.

After today I'm not sure exactly what's going on. You get invaded and then get ripped into after the VP says you actually got invaded. And you don't have suit.

I boycotted visits to California when they gave pigs and chickens more rights than LGB2Q persons. So I'll survive avoiding the US.

I hope others see how Canadians have bound together more than we do provincially or federally and follow it. Because all the 2028 rhetoric is disturbing.

Yesterday was a turning point.

I’m in Fla now my wife landing in Canada in an hour or so.Too cold for me. She . Will be coming right back soon. Our Fl house will have Canadians coming and going the next few months. Some back and forth each weekend. The situation has never been mentioned once in our Fl circle. No one here cares.
