Any August travelers out there?

We check in on 8/31, so technically it's an August trip. We are staying in a 2bdrm @ BWV. We check out the day before school starts for dd, on 9/8. We come home and the next day off to school.

I am very anxious. We were suppose to be there the President's Day week, but dh lost his job back in July and we ended up postponing. He just started back at a new job on 1/5, which is great and we bought our plane tickets, so Aug is now official :hyper:

So looking forward to going home.....

Have never stayed in August and was a little apprehensive because of the heat then when talking to someone at the gym he said the thunderstorms in August are unbelievable? Have you heard that?

Yeah, I've heard it... and lived it! I remember being at the MK one day (seemingly clear skies that a.m.!) SIL and I decided no way, man -- the morning radar on TWC said it was going to rain, and we believed it, and besides, our 2 toddlers were ready for naps. So after lunch, we hoofed it back to VWL, along with my astute 7 yr old son as well. DH, BIL and our other son age 6 stayed at MK to ride on (leave MK? But it's clear! No rain! What a waste of a day!).... well, about the time SIL and I and our kid-crew got into our villa, the bottom absolutely fell out of the sky! UNBELIEVABLE! And we had a great view of it as it poured its heart out with rain, lightening, etc over the quiet pool and Bay Lake... we met up with our super-soggy rainmen a few hrs later at Epcot.

Betcha next time I head for the villa, a few more folks follow! :)

But even soggy as they were, they were in good spirits. It takes more than a little water (even several thousand gallons of it!) to dampen our spirits! It's WDW! So pack a poncho and go...

We went from August 8th to 23rd last year and it was definitely hot, but nothing you couldn't plan for. The only time we really felt the heat was after lunch at the Poly one day we walked over to the Grand Floridian via the path by the wedding chapel. It had just rained and the sun came out again, so we decided to walk versus take the monorail. As the sun heated up the sand and the rain evaporated, the steam heat was unbearable - just like the Sahara desert. By the time we got to GF, we had to buy some drinks in the store and sit in the lobby to recover. The only other negative was that the heavy rains lasted much longer in August than in our previous October visits. The local weather station called it the "zipper" effect as the rain ran up the zipper from south Florida through Orlando and up into the panhandle. It would rain so hard that all the outdoor carts would close in the parks. You could do a lot of the rides, but Epcot was barren without the carts and outdoor activities. We spent an hour at Japan watching the rain run down the stairs like a waterfall and watching a stroller become a bathtub in the rain. The lightning would close the pools and outside exhibits at AK as well, so it does limit your options. Don't even risk booking a boat cruise to watch Illuminations as it's miserable in the rain.

Having said that, we're going back from 8/4 to 8/21 this year split between OKW and BWV. Why? Because a rainy day at Disney and on vacation is better than most anything else we can think of doing. See y'all there!!

We will be there 8/22-26 for the short portion of our February trip that had to be cancelled. Late August is hot and humid, but at least it is a bit less crowded than earlier in the month.

Just reserved BW 2BR BW View for the first week of August. We went at Chrismas (BW 2BR) and are going at Spring break (BCV 2BR) but looking forward to the summer trip the most. Somehow its just the best for us in August.

I had to go get my countdown counters so I could post -lol. We can't wait to share our DVC with my sister and her family. This is our first time taking anyone!

BCV Aug 14
BWV Aug 15-20

We're living somewhat parallel lives: you booked BCV one Sat night, then a week at BWV; we booked a Sat. nt at BCV (7th) and a week at BWV! (8-16th) (We just can't figure out what to do with days 16-20, though -- we're set up to stay the remaining 4 days at BWV after SIL/BIL leave, but SSR may be calling my name!) ALSO -- We're taking my SIL/BIL and their 2 boys with us; they are from Delaware too! (DH is from Delaware).

It sure sounds like there's lots of us headed to BWV over the same or overlapping August periods -- surely THIS time I'll spot a green ribbon? ;)

Look for us at the ESPN, DH loves to hang out there at night and meet fellow DVCers and talk Red Sox and Patriots. He's gmboy95 here on the Dis with a signature line quote from Bob Kraft. He was at the subzero game last weekend (still has no feeling in one toe  ) See you in 211 days and counting!

We have been going in August for the past couple of years. We think its a great time to go. Yes it's hot but right now here in NJ its 8 degrees. Where would you rather be???
:scared1:

We can't wait to get to BCV August 15th to 20th it is a great time to go lower points smaller crowds.

Hoping for a week before school starts. We have BCV booked Aug. 9-15 for our third annual Mom & daughter trip. Have to wait until airfares come out, so far it's expensive. We're doing the 10 day cruise next Christmas so we need to go pretty cheap. Yes, it's hot, that's why we like to stay at BCV, for the pool! Diana

My best friend and I are headed down August 21 - 28. It could not be here soon enough! I too am tired of this cold and snowy weather and the heat and humidity doesn't sound too bad. My DH and I have been down many times in August since my work necessitates vacationing in the summer, but we usually go at the beginning of the month. I'm looking forward to going at the end this time and hoping for not-so-crowded conditions. We'll be staying in a 1 BR at BCV and parking ourselves by SAB for a nice part of our stay. See you there!
