As we are driving down to Florida next month we have to pick up my son from the Atlanta Aiport. We have time to kill in the AM and I would love to go the underground in Atlanta to see the Mickey statues. My question is I see according to their brochure that the nearest parking is 4 blocks away, is this correct? Thanks for helping.

I'm an Atlanta native, and graduated from Georgia State Univ. which is right next to underground... The best place to park for underground is off of Courtland Street, right past a few Georgia State buildings. If you're coming up 75/85 from the airport, take International BLVD exit and turn left and then another left onto Courtland. The parking garage will be on your right. It is maybe a 2 block walk from there... but these aren't huge New York City blocks, and even 4 blocks will only take you a short time.

A great idea for lunch is The Varsity on North Avenue-- the best chili dogs anywhere!

thanks for your prompt response. I will be coming down I75 from Chatanooga.

Underground Atlanta is right across from the Coca-Cola museum. If you have time, it's kind of a fun visit. They have all of the sodas to try, just like at Ice Station Cool at WDW!

Missy28- I am out here in the burbs of Alpharetta with you!

We're from Alabama, but were in Atlanta last weekend and went to see the Mickey's. It was our first time at Underground Atlanta and we weren't really sure how to get there. We saw a policewoman walking down the street and rolled down the window and asked her. She gave great directions and it was easy to find and park close to it. You shouldn't have any problems. One thing that confused me, though, was that I thought I read on here that there were 25 Mickey statues, but there were only 15. I kept looking, saying, "There have to be more!" until we finally saw a sign that said there were 15. We got pictures with all of them - they were really cute. (The "Back to School" one was my favorite because I'm a teacher!) Have fun!

Oh, yes, I second the suggestions for the World of Coca Cola museum and the Varsity!

Just wanted to say hey to all the fellow Georgians. I am up here in Dunwoody! I vote for a trip to the Varsity! Who's with me! I have not gotten to Underground to see the statues. I need to go.

what the underground Atlanta is and the Mickey statues. We will be in Atlanta during July 4 a few weeks before we head to WDW. I would love to take the kids to this.

Thanks, Southern4sure

Hello fellow Georgians! I live in Buford (45 min. north of downtown). Saw all 75 statues in January at MK. It's worth driving to see them wherever they are on display. It was wonderful!!!

Hello from Conyers!!

I have yet to visit the Mickey statues and will certainly do so before our Christmas trip to Disney! What a great way to get our children excited about the trip. :jumping2:

Southern4sure, the Mickeys are great! We were at MK in January and saw all 75! They are now appearing in 5 cities (each city got 15). Movie stars, singers, athletes got to custom design each Mickey. I loved Elton John's and John Travolta's was all about jets/planes. I don't know which 15 Atlanta has, but it would definitely be worth a visit to see them. I believe at the end of the tour (August?) they are being auctioned off. Ah, if only money were no object!!! :D Laura - Marietta, GA (I-75 runs thru it!)

IBeing a Fl. resident I went to see the statues at WDW in Dec. They are awesome. I work for Home Depot and we sponsored one!
Atlanta is awesome. If you have never been go! See the statues, Centenial park where the olympics were held, CNN, Coca-Cola,...oh yes...The Varsity!

What-a-ya-have???

Trust me, if you eat there you will understand!:earsgirl:

We are being transfered from Long Island to Alpharetta this summer. I am SO nervous and upset by this. Am I going to love it as people tell me? The south is a long way from NY, I'm born and raised here and this move is freaking me out!!
Thanks for any info!

We were there today. When you visit, 8 are inside, and 7 are found outside of the Undergroud. Three of those are between the entrance and the World of Coca Cola. There are also some of the Cows and Baseballs from other projects.

rileyroosmom: I'm originally from Bergen County, NJ. I have lived in Marietta, GA for 16 years now (not far from Alpharetta) and I can tell you that you will LOVE it here!! The north side of Atlanta has many Yankees - you'll meet plenty of fellow New Yorkers. The heat and humidity can get a bit much, but the winters can't be beat!

The real down-side to the area is the traffic. I don't know if you've chosen your new home yet or not, but be advised that if you have to head south on highway 400 in the morning (or north in the afternoon), YUCK!!

When are you moving here? School starts early around here - the kids in our area go back August 9th - but their summer starts before Memorial Day! Good luck with the move. If you have any questions I'll be happy to try to provide answers! Laura

Laura (my name is Laura too!)

We have bought a home in Bridle Ridge off Peachtree Parkway. If I'm correct, I think we are north of Atlanta and my husband will have to travel south on 400 to work in Alpharetta. Traffic is nothing new to us. He travels the LIE and takes him over an hour each way. The office in Alpharetta is 14 miles away so it can't take as long as his commute now.

Have heard about all the Northerners, which makes me feel better. Also heard nothing but praise about the place. However, that heat and humidity has me shakin in my shoes!! Lack of snow makes me very sad for my kids, especially 3 year old who won't remember what it's like.

Trying like crazy to get there before August 9th. Another stress in my life! Wish me luck! Thanks for writing back.
Laura

Rileyroosmom Laura: 14 miles shouldn't be too bad. Don't worry about the heat and humidity - you'll get used to it! You'll enjoy the occasional "ice storm" here; but actually, snow isn't too far away. We're close enough to the mountains where you can easily get your fill! Our family loves Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, TN which are about 200 miles from us. There's skiing in the winter; Dollywood and outlet shopping in the spring/summer/fall! Best of luck in your move - the actual move will be the challenging part. Once you get here and get settled in, you'll love it!! Laura

If you're going to be in Atlanta more than a couple of hours, make time for the Center for Puppetry Arts. They usually have several shows each day, some with after-show workshops where kids can make their own puppets, etc. It is amazing for kids age 2+ ... grown-ups, too! But you do need reservations for most shows ahead of time.

If you're driving in through Chattanooga, I understand that there's a family-owned amusement park somewhere near Chattanooga ... it was featured in Southern Living, sorry I can't remember the name or any details, except that it sounds like a quaint historical gem with a real family (and non-consumeristic) feel.

I'm formally from Atlanta (Kennesaw to be exact) and still visit friends frequently in Hotlanta and really want to see the Mickeys. My BF has taken her girls a few times and they say they are great. We will have to get over there before July 20th when they are scheduled to leave, according to their website.
