Anti War Protesters

I just drove through Dupont Circle here in Washington, where they are having a peaceful protest, and a candlelight vigil a little later on today. So far no arrests have been made. I see nothing wrong with people protesting the war, they oppose the war and this is their way of making their opinions known.

However, when it gets ugly and violent, the whole point of making love not war becomes sort of moot.

Sorry you had to experience such ugliness today, lil mermaid. :(

I agree - peaceful, RESPECTFUL protests are one thing. When you become violent, disrespectful and/or rude to others, that is not freedom of speech as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry, you had such a rotten experience today, lil mermaid.

here in Chicago there is another protest scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8 where there is going to be "planned" civil disobedience. can anyone tell me the point of that?

I think it is awful what they are doing. I agree with Free Speech, that is what our country is all about, and that is what our troops are over there fighting for.

What is bad is that these people are taking the police away from protecting America from Terrorism. They should be ashamed.

I just returned from a PEACEFUL anti-war protest. It was not at all like the one you describe and boy, am I glad.

Our local TV news this AM alternated between showing this and Iraq. I'm all for folks in their peaceful, law-abiding, permit-allowed demonstrations (altho they also cost the City $$ for police) But this is mind-boggling. What's amazing, they're pissing off a lot of people who agree with them!
How can anybody think that it's OK for the protestors to do what they're doing?

This is America and they can have their say. They can protest all they want as long as it doesn't affect others. If they stop me from driving, or walking down the street, or physically attack me, it is plain WRONG. No matter what the cause is. I heard another angle to this on the news at lunch. There was a statement from the police about all of the police that had been dispatched to handle the demonstrators. These are policemen that could have been patrolling high profile areas looking for terrorists. They also stated that they had reached a point where they could only respond to the most urgent 911 calls. If some kind of attack does occur in one of these cities, might the protestors wonder if they were the cause of the target not having enough protection?

DH is on a special team to handle riots. Of course, the politically correct term for his team is the SET Team: Special Events Team. Can't call it a Riot Control Team. He's on duty this weekend for Wisconsin's capitol.

He's had to work at KKK events and sweatshop protests in the past; hopefully the protest for peace will really be peaceful this weekend.:(

I may be doing extra DISing this weekend looking for support and a distraction.

That was the protest I was at and it was fine. The SET Team (Riot Squad in your terms) officers seemed bored.

That they will be bored. Protests in the past were fine, as you said, I hope it continues.

Here in NYC they had anit war protesters in Times Square during the evening rush hour! These people are certainly entitled to their position, HOWEVER, do they have any clue as to how they are placing the rest of us in great danger? We are high alert, which the city has been on since..9-11...but even more heighten now. My newphew is a NYPD officer... he is suppose to watching for possible terrorist activity....in addition to doing his job. Now he is trying to keep war protesters safe, and those of us trying to commute safe..this is not possible. The protesters are unruly, and have no consideration for the fact that they are placing others at risk with their behavior. If they don't care for themselves, that's fine. But we have the mayor telling people to come into the city, it's safe...well it's not safe if the people who are suppose to be keeping it safe can't do their jobs! I think it is despicable that they would protest on the very day that these men and women are laying their lives on the line. If you want to protest, then oragnize it and do it in a safe and orderly manner...so as not to endanger the lives of your fellow citiizens.

Kind of ironic that protesters who are against a war are using some violent or at least physical means of protesting.

Like my father always say, "the world is full of ********."

A wise man, your father.

Disnee Dad Says........................................I am a new age peace activist! Thats right, we should go in, bomb the military and liberate the people of Iraq
Let me see if I have this right. Gulf War we killed around 3,000 civilians. Sad man has killed over a million of his own people. So If I am against the war I am for another million deaths as opposed to a few hundred if that, that will stop the killing.
This is clearly a peace by war.
