Another year, another slideshow

As one of our family traditions, I have assembled a selection of photos showing some of what we did during the year. I posted it at my slideshow site at http://barbierifamily.org/slideshow.

It was a good year for us - no moves, no death march projects at work, lot's of good trips.

Another excellent slideshow Mark! So I have to ask, what makes your colors "pop" like that? Is it the lens or the camera or both? I am always amazed at the richness of color in your photos.

Overall, the photos are all awesome. If I had to pick a best, it would be a tie with the mountain over the lake with the light on the mountain and the DS charger which is still a wonder of technology to me! :lmao:

Great Job!

Fine photography Mark- and a very nice documentary on your year. I always enjoy your slideshows! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

your photos are really superb aren't they...you have a gorgeous family! The photo of one of your sons strapped to something and pinged in the air is awesome!

Very nice Mark. Where did you get the background music for the 2006 and 2007 WDW sliseshows?

WOW!!! What a spectacular year you and your family had!! Great job on the slideshow and your photos are just amazing - my favorite was the one of your son standing looking towards the mt. range, in Canada (Banuf?) - it just made me think of how small we truly are in light of God's great creation!! Beautiful work!:thumbsup2

Many blessings on you and your family in the coming year!!:flower3:

It's a shame Mac users can't view your slide shows. Is there a reason you make them so that only PC users can view them? I realize PCs far outnumber Macs, but in the photo/graphic arts community, Macs are much more prevalent. And, anything I make on my Mac, PC users can view/read so I know it is possible to do.

I'm working on it. Most of the tools I have for making slideshows make videos, which are playable anywhere. That's OK, but that means distributing at lower resolution, with more compression artifacts, and generally decreased picture quality.

The tool that I use, Pictures2Exe, let's me package the photos along with some wrapper code to do the displaying. That allows me to distribute them in a higher resolution, better quality format and a smaller file. The downside is, that it's an executable file. It requires that the user have a Windows PC and that they trust that my EXE isn't doing something nefarious.

I've been looking at the capabilities of Flash for doing the same thing and I think that it is the direction that I want to go. Unfortunately, Adobe is rather proud of Flash, and I haven't been willing to commit the funds for it yet. If you've got any other suggestions, I'm willing to listen.

You're not really missing all that much. At the end of the day, it's really just a bunch of mostly vacation photos of my family. I have to say that it surprises (and flatters) me to see how many people are willing to download a 50 meg file just to see someone else's family photos.

Not to sell yourself short, but downloading a 50meg file isn't quite as bad as it used to be. But knowing the quality you produce, I would probably even do it on dial-up.

Mark, those photos are just stunning. I was looking at them and as the screen changed all I could say was WOW!!
You have a lovely family - thank you so much for sharing this with us!
