My brother and older sis and I just had a chat on AOL Instant Messenger. We were discussing recipes and dishes to prepare for Thanksgiving tomorrow. My mom called me from the plane this morning. She and my dad left on their trip today.

My older sister is still in San Diego. She will come back here tomorrow. She just did a quick run to Trader Joe's to try to get a few more ingredients. My brother is coming to pick me up and we are going to do a quick market run. I'm just waiting for him to get here.

How was your day? Are you cooking tomorrow?

we are going to my ils. she is cooking her first thanksgiving turkey, but she is great cook, so i'm not too worried. ;)

i'm not sure what else we'll have, but we are bringing a veggie tray and dip, stove top stuffing, and an apple pie for dessert.

the kids are excited to see their grandparents, of course, and dh says his stepmom is beyond excited to be spending thanksgiving with the kids. i'm a little bummed not to be seeing my family, but it will be nice to catch up with dh's dad and stepmom, and perhaps her sister will be there, too. she's a pretty neat lady, so i always like seeing her, too.

That's cool. Sounds like it will be fun. :goodvibes Ooh...apple pie.

Score!!!!!! :cool1: :woohoo: :yay:

I know!!:cool1:

Stove top? Thats what my inlaws have on Thanksgiving. Never... in all my years had I eaten stove top on Thanksgiving until I met them. AND I didnt know people ate apple pie at Thanksgiving. :confused3 I was surprised! My mom was a little set in her ways, I guess. :lmao: Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, and Louisiana Mud Pie. YUM. I need the recipe for that one.

my brother doesn't like pumpkin pie, so we always had two types of pie at my parents' house. so my mom and i, who like pumpkin and fruit pies, would always take a little sliver of each, the best of both worlds! :thumbsup2

i don't know how fatty pumpkin pie is, but i know the fruit pies aren't so bad, so i think that's why dh said we'd bring that to the ils. (dh and his dad both have heart issues, plus fil is diabetic.)

i was a little surprised they asked us to bring stove top; i wrinkled my nose and asked dh why. he said she'd never prepared a thanksgiving turkey before, and had never made stuffing before, either. she really liked the stove top they had at my house once, and asked for it. i felt bad for sort of turning my nose up at it for thanksgiving after all that. :rotfl:

:lmao: I was STUNNED when my mil said she was making stove top. ut then.. it was probably for the best. She is a horrid cook. Her idea of a good meal is fish sticks and canned green beans. :lmao:

we like stove top; i make it whenever i bake a chicken, which is nearly once a week. but it's easy, so easy i can practically make it in my sleep. so it's not special, you know? :rotfl:

I am going to guess that tomorrow we will have pumpkin pie, pecan pie, mincemeat, and some other sort.. Pumpkin cheese cake maybe? I dont know. There are going t be GAGGLES of people there.

Us.. 4
my mom
grandma
uncles fam.. 4.. maybe 5
aunt and uncle
aunt
great aunt and uncle..

and who ever else shows up.

I went out to dinner tonight with my mom, and we were talking about what time I need to be there. She said between 10 and noon. With dinner being around 2 or so. Ummm... Or we could get there at 1:30 or so. :lmao:

:lmao: I know exactly what you mean. We have it every once in a while.. and we SOMETIMES have it when I was younger. But yeah... its like every day stuff.

You know what used to be "holiday" food for me? Black olives. It NEVER occurred to me that you could actually eat it any time of the year. NOT just on a holiday. We were grocery shopping once, and Frelan grabbed a can, and I almost fell over dead! THATS HOLIDAY FOOD!! What are you doing??? We cant eat that now. :lmao: :lmao: Im such a geek!

See.. When I was growing up, Thanksgiving dinner was more of a later lunch thing. Around 1 or so. AGAIN... I had no idea that people ate earlier. :lmao: My inlaws ate at 5 or so. :lmao:

it's true, the only time we ever had 'em was at the holidays, too. my sister was and still is a big black olive fan. she used to get into the bowl and put an olive on every fingertip. then my mom would yell at her for touching food, then yell at her when she tried to put them back in the bowl, then my sister would eat all 10 happily. :lmao:

I told my mom we were going to eat, and get the heck up on out. She knows how crabby I am right now. Im SURE she knows. :rotfl2:

i just watched christina ferrare make a turkey and real cornbread stuffing, and it looked very basic. i could do that! :thumbsup2

:lmao: Shoot... When I was little my mom taught us how to do that! Then she taught MY kids to do it!
