i just watched christina ferrare make a turkey and real cornbread stuffing, and it looked very basic. i could do that!

Totally. Its fairly easy.. I love turkey. HAve you ever had cornbread stuffing? I know that the taste is WAY different then what I am used to, and I dont like it. Again. Not what I grew up with.

I think I did my first totally on my own turkey last year.. Yum. Just remember to take out the innards.

Shoot... When I was little my mom taught us how to do that! Then she taught MY kids to do it!

somebody taught us to do it, too. i can't imagine it was my mom, though. probably either my dad, or perhaps when we were really young (pre-K) maybe one of my uncles. we didn't grow up with family nearby, but there was i think a 6-month period when we were in the same town as the family.

no, my mom always made it with white bread. and i've watched her make it a million times, and i know what the ingredients are, so i don't know why it is so intimidating to me. well, i know you have to be careful if you put it in the bird, and i don't really like it if you don't, so i guess that's why.

EXACTLY. I think my husband is itching for a fight. SO unlike him.. But he has been preparing himself all week to put the smackdown on the first person to say something nasty to me.

Most of these people are total ghetto trash, and have NO ROOM to say the crap to me that they do. My uncle is in his 40's and lives in a one bedroom house on his mothers property.. With his WHOLE FAMILY. and he wants to talk about us?? Or my aunt with no kids a horrid husband wants to be nasty?? Oh yeah. They better keep the carving knife AWAY from the pregnant lady.

christina ferrare's stuffing was really quite soupy when she put it in the pan. she doesn't like it in the bird. but she said all the moisture will get absorbed into the stuffing so it would come out moist. my mom can't fit all the stuffing into the bird, so she bakes some in a pan, then mixes the two types together before serving. i wonder if the pan stuff would be better if she put chicken stock in to make it soupy?

I dont know.. We always had two trays. One from IN the turkey, and one from outside of the turkey. I want to say that it was the same stuff on both. Both good.. Just one not as goopy. i got an email from my sister today; she said my brother and his gf and baby were going to her place for thanksgiving, which kind of surprised everyone. she's worried about the gf being bored, maybe because we're not going to be there? i think my other brother is supposed to have his kids that day, so they'll be there.

my sister's place is good sized for being a single person, but really not big enough for our whole family, which is now about 13 people. she doesn't even have enough seating for all of us, so it's kind of uncomfortable, but she insists on doing thanksgiving. dh is happy to not be going.

i got an email from my sister today; she said my brother and his gf and baby were going to her place for thanksgiving, which kind of surprised everyone. she's worried about the gf being bored, maybe because we're not going to be there? i think my other brother is supposed to have his kids that day, so they'll be there.

Is it your job to entertain? Or does the GF only talk to children?? Besides.. Frelan is always bored at family stuff. So am I for that matter. We dont go to have fun, we go because we HAVE to.

Yeah. We always do it at my Grandmas house.. Its big, and has lots of chairs. Plus.. she has lived there for a hundred years, and everyone knows how to get there.

my friend today says she is doing a small turkey and lite fixins for her family this year, since they don't have the whole family get-together they usually attend/host. she says she takes stove top and doctors it up with chicken stock instead of the water, and adds raisins and/or apple bits, or other goodies. she said her fil owned one of the major restaurants downtown in the 60s, and he and his wife are culinary chefs, and they loved her doctored stove top!

i honestly didn't know what to make of her comment. we've met the girl only once, so maybe she ~ as a hostess ~ is just worried the gf wont' have fun?

dh always used to brag that he enjoyed my family more than his, he could relax and be himself. but my siblings and i are sooo different, and i think he's gotten tired of the little bickering and sniping. x complains about y, y disses z, z is ticked off at x... i just try to stay out of the whole thing, and he does, too, but it's tiresome.

We always did our little family stuff. I didnt grow up around the extended family.. Probably why I dnt like them. But once I graduated, I moved out, and my parents started going to Vegas for Thanksgiving. THen they moved to Reno.. This is the first year we are going to my grandmas. Hopefully the last.

I know exactly what you mean. I want to have my own family stuff. We are starting our own Christmas tradition this year. Just us.. Ill make dinner, and we will have a nice day. Just us. Maybe my mom might come over. I really want to establish that stuff now. So that as my kids grow, and become adults they want to come back to mom! Or.. They can do it for their families! Because they learned from ME of course.

so you're seriously ok with whatever he picks? i couldn't do that. geez, it took us forever to agree on a name for ds8, then we had to do it all over again for ds4. months of "how about Darwin?" "Yuck! How about Zachary?" "Ewwww no, there was an icky kid in 2nd grade named Zachary..."

No. I didnt grow up around anyone. No skin off my nose. like I said.. They are all kinda trashy.

I KNOW. I cant wait for my mom to figure that one out. Seriously. She thinks I have no idea how to run my life. HELLO. Im NOT perfect, but I know I am a good mom, and wife.. My kids are fed and healthy and happy.. My house hasnt burnt down.. Im really doing kind of okay.
