Oh YEAh. Its fabulous. I yell a lot to. but that is just my natural lovely disposition. :lmao: :lmao:

I worry about him as he gets older.. Hopefully, he will work hard. I have my fingers crossed.

I have found that grades 5-8 are the roughest. It's that age where they are 10-14 and think they are 25! It was a tough time for DD and now that DS has hit 5th grade I can see the same thing happening. I think they would rather goof off and socialize than hand in their work and you seem to have to stay on them constantly. Thank goodness for online grades!:thumbsup2 You can jump right on them when they quit handing things in instead of waiting to hear from a teacher.

As a matter of fact I just ran off their reports...DS seems to have not handed in 2 math papers this week and DD got two F's on spanish assignments. I don't even argue anymore, I just hand them their printed progress reports from the computer with the problem or missing assignments circled in red. They know that I will be expecting them to fix it the following week. :rotfl:

I need to get a couple of things done before I leave for the evening. Have a great evening Megan!

Awesome! I wish the had that when was younger.. My parents could have busted my butt, and cracked down on all my crap. :sad2:

Oy. What grade? Sounds tough...

Middle school, 7th and 8th grade Science. It is a pre K to 8 magnet school with an art focus. Inner city where they have to keep the gangs from recruiting outside the school.

Were not as familiar with this area, north Minneapolis, just hear the horror stories. But I know there are pockets of some very nice areas mixed in with the really bad.

put it this way, I could buy a house for $25,000 in the bad parts of north. In the nicer parts the price climbs to $150,000. Older homes ... a few victorians and lots of 20's era. Beautiful woodwork on the inside, falling apart on the outside, wire fences around every house.

Compare to..The school district area we live in (rated in the top 500 best high schools in America) easy $200,000 and up, homes built in the 60's- 70's. Considered middle class neighborhood.

 It's a Joyous week in DH Hyenaland! We started the week with my DH getting a job offer and now B's DH getting a job offer. Could we ask for anything better!

May I make a suggestion? Doesn't matter, you know I'm going to put my two cents in anyway!:rotfl: See if he can make his first lesson be the science behind baggy pants. You know what causes them to fall down, ie gravity.:rotfl:

:goodvibes I know! It's nice to hear good news for a change!
Gravity- check.

Oh and put a sign on the door...students entering this door during class hours will be considered part of my class and will be required to attend the entire hour! That ought to keep them out!:lmao:

Oh and a poster for the wall...students are required to stay seated during class. If you are out of your seat, goofing off I will assume you have learned to overcome the force of gravity and will expect a two page paper discussing gravity turned in the next day.:lmao: :rotfl2:
Enter, stay - check
more gravity- check

Thank you for not swearing in our classroom. Students heard swearing will be required to hand in a 2 page paper discussing how vocal cords work.:lmao:

vocal cords - check!

 I like all of those. I'll make sure he gets a chance to read them :rotfl:

I tell ya, the way things are going, anyone who has a job is extremely lucky....

B. I am so glad he found a job....
:goodvibes
Thanks!

He said the school had a good vibe, staff are pleasant to talk to and the principal cares for the community. One of the subs was late bringing class out to the bus, bus left without one child.. prinicipal said she would drive him home.

I thought - wow! Now that's someone who cares.

They do home visits too, the district encourages teachers to do them by providing professional growth credits for every 10 visits. (Get 12 credits and you bump into the next salary lane)

Were not 100% sure on salary, they have old contracts on website from 2005. Did some more sleuthing and found the alternative pay schedule (with the professional growth credits ) from last school year. At least we have an estimate.

It's a job girlie, and the increases will come with time....I am so happy for you

The pay schedule they use is a bit different. I like it though, it's not just based on college credits. It encourages teachers to keep learning and to be part of the school, the district and the community. I wonder how many teachers can't cut it and leave, it's tough to teach kids who haven't had the best of parenting skills and have their own "baggage" KWIM?

Hubby was chuckling, he told a staff person he taught at a school one hour east of LA.

Just like the telephone game, it got translated in passing to :

He taught in LA. :lmao: :lmao:
He's waiting to hear if it changed to: He taught in East LA

Thanks Melody!

Megan and Alison were saying.. it's nice to hear some good things twice in one week :goodvibes

maybe he could put that on his poster for the wall, sam has something going there...:rotfl2:

yes, SAM SENT HER MAN BACK INTO THE JUNGLE..bummer, her sheets won't be april fresh anymore....lololololol

At this point he doesn't even have a contract signed. The staff need to contact HR and put him in the system. The principal said she was "99% sure" she was giving him the job... I was like huh??

But it's due to HR paperwork and getting the other teacher moved out.

If anything he will sub in another class until they clear out the current teacher.
You guys need to sit down and watch the oldie "To Sir with Love." Have you ever seen it? Or how about the fairly new one about a woman teacher who has a bunch of gang members. Geesh............I can't remember the name right now. Phooey.............my mind is at a blank!! :headache: :headache: :headache:

Anyways, that is so cool. I hope it all turns out, and the principal is a GOOD one this time!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I was waiting for you to pop on and say Chicken butt .. after my "guess what?" thingie

:lmao: :lmao:

anyway, he starts Monday.

The sub in that class told him good luck, you'll need it. And not to trust them with the science kits

Prinicpal expects him to have a very rough 2 week "breaking in" by the students. :scared:
It's not that different than last year.. well except the principal is not sea hag :rolleyes1
Hm? My last comment was supposed to go with this post. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

I need to add.. for people who live in MN.. California is one big blobby warm place, they have no concept of the difference between LA, east LA or one hour from LA.

They hear the word "LA" and they think ooooohhhh gang central.

ummm no not really
It's just so HUGE compared to the metro area here where we can drive from a north suburb to a south suburb in less than 40 minutes. And yes, we measure distance by time. I know.. I know..it's weird.

When my brother moved here from Duluth he asked : How far is.. where is.. and How far is... and for each one I said " Oh 20 minutes"

He stopped, looked at me oddly and said "so everything is 20 minutes away from here"

ummm... yeah just about.

:lmao: And really, it IS!

are you talking about the movie with Michelle Pfeifer? (or however you spell her name)
